Multiple tracks and areas of Blue Mountains National Park are closed from Tuesday 3 December 2019 until further notice due to dangerous fire conditions. The closed areas include:

  • Mount Solitary, Ruined Castle track, Narrow Neck, Glenraphael Drive and some southern Katoomba and Leura tracks
  • Mount Hay, Point Pilcher, Perrys (Hat Hill), Victoria Falls, Mount Banks, Pierces Pass, McMahons lookout and Bedford roads
  • Burramoko, Kedumba Valley and Mount Banks trails
  • Green Gully, Perrys, Ingar and Murphys and remote campgrounds
  • Glenbrook precinct, including Nepean fire trail and lookout, Red Hands Cave fire trail and track, Jack Evans track, Jelly Bean Pool and the Oaks fire trail
  • Euroka campground (to be reviewed Friday 13 December 2019) and Burralow campground
  • Six Foot track
  • All remote walking tracks, canyons and rock climbing descending below cliffs out of Mount Wilson, Bell, Green Gully, south of Katoomba to Woodford and into the Grose Valley (excluding Grand Canyon).

Walkers undertaking the Kanangra to Katoomba walk need to be aware that current water availability is very low at Dexs and Mobbs Swamp campgrounds. It is expected that water at these sites will dry up completely within the next couple of weeks. Walkers should not rely on these sites for replenishment of water supplies. The only reliable water on the K2K walk is located on the Coxes River.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service is doing 1080 ground baiting of foxes in Jenolan Karst Conservation Reserve and the northern section of Kanangra-Boyd National Park.

This baiting program will run from Thursday 3 October 2019 to Tuesday 31 March 2020. It will reduce the impacts of foxes on native animals including the threatened brush-tailed rock wallaby.

There will be 1080 baiting signs at the entrance to baiting areas. Don't touch baits or ejector devices. Some baits may be buried. Penalties apply for non-compliance.

Domestic pets, including dogs, are not permitted in national parks or reserves. 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) baits are lethal to domestic dogs and cats. Restrain working and assistance dogs to ensure that they don't enter the baiting areas. If you need your dogs to work in the baiting area, we suggest muzzling them. In the event of accidental poisoning, seek immediate veterinary advice.

NSW National Parks will be undertaking a wild dog baiting program using 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) baits in Parma Creek Nature Reserve and Jerrawangala National Park. The program will take place from Monday 15 July to Friday 16 August 2019.

Precautions will be taken to minimise the risk to pets and other non-target species. Please remember, it is an offence under the National Parks and Wildlife Act to allow domestic animals into national parks and nature reserves. It is also and offence to interfere with the wild dog control program.

There will be 1080 baiting notification signs at track heads in each area advising the start and finish dates of the baiting program.

This baiting program is in accordance with the 1080 Wild Dog Baiting provisions in the Pesticide Control (1080 Liquid Concentrate and Bait Products) Order 2017.

A small block of Budderoo National Park (Lot 7006 DP 1002504) is closed from Monday 25 March to Sunday 30 December 2019. NSW National Parks will be running a feral goat pest control program to protect threatened plant species on the site. The block is only accessible from Parishs Road, Upper Kangaroo River.

For safety reasons, no visitors will be allowed to enter, remain or pass through this block. All other parts of Budderoo National Park remain unaffected by this work.

There will be heavy machinery works along roads in the Mount Kingiman, Croobyar area in Morton National Park, to repair damage caused by the Kingiman fire in August 2018. Some roads may be temporarily closed during the works, including:

A 1080 ground baiting and ejector program targeting foxes is underway in Eurobodalla National Park, Mimosa Rocks National Park, Bournda National Park and nature reserve, Gulaga National Park, Ben Boyd National Park and South East Forest National Park. The program is ongoing throughout the entire year. Prince Henry Cliff walking track is closed between Leura Cascades and Solitary restaurant until further notice. This closure is due to a landslide that has completely blocked the track. An alternative track is available via Leura Cascades Round Walk. Visitors can also walk from Leura Cascades to Solitary restaurant adjacent Cliff Drive but should be wary of traffic.

National Pass remains closed between Valley of Waters and Slacks Stairs. The closure is indefinite following a serious rockfall in November 2017 which killed a worker and seriously injured two others. The area of the rockfall remains dangerous and the subject of external investigation. The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service is reviewing how such geological hazards and visitor access can be managed. Access across the Audley Weir may be closed due to river flooding during times of wet weather. During wet weather, NPWS advise park visitors to visit Live Traffic NSW to ascertain the status of the Weir crossing before commencing their travel to the park. During times of closure, access to Bundeena, Maianbar residential areas, Royal National Park Visitor Centre, including the Audley Dance hall and cafe, is via McKell Ave Waterfall.

NPWS will be conducting a wild dog control program from October 2017 to October 2018 for wild dogs. The program will include trapping and the use of 1080  (sodium fluoroacetate) poison baits. The program will be undertaken in the Sassafras-Tolwong-Touga area of Morton National Park. Visitors are advised not to touch traps or baits. Please be aware that domestic pets could be affected as 1080 poison is lethal to dogs and cats. Pet owners and landowners must ensure their pets and working dogs do not enter baited reserves.
