Safety alerts: Restricted access on Quarry trail and Benowie walking track

Access restrictions and track closures are in place along trails that cross land managed by Hornsby Rifle Range as a Range Danger Area. The Hornsby Rifle Range Danger Area is closed to the public. 

These closures include:

  • An 800m section of Quarry fire trail, between Quarry Road, Dural and Tunks Ridge campground
  • An 800m section of Quarry fire trail, 300m in from the Stewart Avenue entrance at Hornsby
  • The section of track between Steele Bridge and Fishponds waterhole. Please use the Great North Walk detour through Hornsby Heights or access to Quarry Road, Dural is via Pogsons Link walking track.

Swimming is not advisable in Bewrowra Creek at certain times as the water may be subject to variable pollution levels. Please refer to the Hornsby Shire Council website before swimming in Berowra Creek.

Swimming at Fishponds is not advised at any time due to heavy water pollution

Visitors might see and hear vehicles and machinery on Pennant Hills Park trail from Monday 25 March 2019. Ausgrid are pruning trees and plants beneath powerlines to manage fire risk. All walking tracks and trails in the area will remain open.

The Mitchell Park area of Cattai National Part is closed because of damage caused by recent storms. This area will remain closed unless the closure is otherwise extended or removed.

Closed areas: Day trail closure

Day trail (off Day Road, Cheltenham) to Devlins Creek trail will be closed from Tuesday 19 March 2019. This is due to fire trail surface and drainage works. This closure may be extended and any extension will be posted as soon as possible.

Closed areas: Casuarina Track closed between Boree Road and Davidson picnic area

Casuarina track between Carrol Creek and Davidson Picnic area, Forestville is closed indefinitely due to the removal of the stairway down to the picnic area after safety concerns. Lyrebird track is the recommended alternative access which connects to the Governor Philip Walk or Ferguson Street. Penalties apply for non-compliance. NSW Roads and Maritime Services are undertaking essential maintenance work on Mooney Mooney Creek Bridge, Old Pacific Highway. Users of the Great North Walk may experience temporary delays at this location between 7am and 6pm, Monday to Friday and between 8am and 1pm on Saturdays.

The anticipated completion date is August 2019.

The 1080 poison is lethal to dogs and cats, and pet owners are reminded that domestic animals are not permitted in national parks.

Collins Flat Beach is currently unavailable for venue hire. This is due to the impact of high visitation on the critical penguin habitat at this location. This closure will be reviewed at the end of the breeding season in February 2019. Penalties apply for non-compliance.

Closed areas: Flat Rock track - partial closure

A section of Flat Rock track - from the Killarney Drive entrance to the Downpatrick Street entrance - is currently closed until further notice due to track safety issues where the track passes through private property near Killarney Point:

  • Walkers heading west should exit Flat Rock track at the eastern end of Killarney Drive and use Killarney Drive until you reach Downpatrick Street. Then walk down the street and re-enter Flat Rock track from the Downpatrick Street fire trail.
  • Walkers heading east should exit Flat Rock track at the Downpatrick Street fire trail and use Downpatrick Street, then Killarney Drive until you reach the end of Killarney Drive. Re-enter Flat Rock track from the Killarney Drive entrance.

Closed areas: Lane Cove National Park toilet closures

From Monday 7 December 2015, some toilets within this park will be closed during the week, opening only on weekends and public holidays. Toilets affected are:

  • Blue Wren and Illoura (Areas 4-5)
  • Carters Creek (Area 9)
  • Scribbly Gums (Area 17)
  • Bakers Flat (Area 28)
  • Haynes Flat (Area 32)
