Closed areas: Piles Creek loop walk part closure

A section of Piles Creek Loop walking track will be temporarily closed from Monday 3 May 2021 to mid-July 2021 for maintenance works. The walking track will be closed on the eastern side of Piles Creek between Illoura lookout and the intersection with the Great North Walk, south of Rat Gully.

The following areas will remain open:

  • The section of walking track on the western side of Piles Creek, linking the suspension bridge and Girrakool Picnic Area.
  • The Great North walk
  • Girrakool picnic area and Girrakool loop walking track

Mount Wondabyne campground along Great North walk will be closed for maintenance from Monday 17 May to Friday 25 June 2021.

Pedestrians can still access the area and signposts will be in place around the work site.

Safety alerts: Limited 1080 pest control program

A limited 1080 poison feral pest animal baiting program will be taking place from Wednesday 2 June to Wednesday 23 June 2021 in the central section of this park, and on some adjacent private properties with the consent of landholders. The program is centred on the northern section of the Ravensdale Valley near Yarramalong.

The baiting is targeting wild dogs which are a major predator of native wildlife and can be responsible for attacks on domestic farm stock.

The affected areas include the western side of Watagan Forest Road between Bee Camp Point Road in the north to Pitts Point Road in the south, to Ravensdale Road in the west. 

Please remember that domestic animals are not permitted in this park at any time. 1080 poison is toxic to domestic cats and dogs. Seek urgent veterinary care if you suspect your animal has taken a bait.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be conducting an ongoing aerial and ground baiting program in this park from Monday 17 May to Wednesday 17 November 2021. The operation will involve the use of meat baits, meat bait products and ejectors containing 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes.

This program is designed to minimise the impact of foxes on wildlife, especially after the recent extensive bushfires, and to minimise the impact of wild dogs and foxes on neighbouring stock. This program is carried out as part of the following Blue Mountains Branch Pest Management Strategies: Western Hunter Wild Dog Management Plan, Central Hunter Wild Dog Management Plan & Post Fire Aerial Baiting Program.

All baiting locations will be identified by signs. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW national parks and reserves. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting locations. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Buried baits and capsules in ejector devices will be laid in a continuous and ongoing manner throughout Palm Grove Nature Reserve during this period.

Warning signs will be displayed in target areas and visitors must not touch baits.

Closed areas: Bouddi Coastal Walk Upgrade - partial track closure

The Bouddi Coastal Walk will be closed from Gerrin Point Lookout to the junction of Maitland Bay Walking Track. The closure will be in place from Monday 19th April 2021 until Friday 16th July 2021. This is to ensure the safety of visitors and contractors during track upgrade and construction works. No pedestrian access is possible to this section of walking track and no detour is in place during this closure.

All roads in Jilliby State Conservation Area are unsealed, and not readily accessible by 2WD vehicles. 4WD vehicles should be used at all times. The last 850m along Ironbark Road (Crown Road) to access Ironbark picnic area is currently limited to 4WD vehicles only. This section is not suitable to conventional 2WD vehicles due to a severely eroded hill along the Crown Road. Visitors to this section of the park travelling by conventional 2WD vehicles will have to walk the last 850 metres to access to the start of the park and Ironbark picnic area.

The section of Lemon Tree Forest Road, between Prickly Ridge Road and Yambo Forest Road, in Jilliby State Conservation Area is closed to vehicles. This closure will remain in place indefinitely due to severe erosion and 4WD vehicle damage.

  • Two picnic areas in Brisbane Water National Park close in the evening:

    • Girrakool picnic area is open 7am to 8pm during daylight savings and is open 7am to 6pm at other times
    • Somersby Falls picnic area is open 8am to 8pm during daylight savings and is open 8am to 5pm at other times

    Other areas of Brisbane Water National Park will be open at all times, however may have to close at times due to poor weather or fire danger.
