Closed areas: Great North walk closed

Great North walk (excluding vehicle management trails and public roads) in the following parks is closed until further notice due to damage from recent severe weather events:

  • Brisbane Water National Park
  • Palm Grove Nature Reserve
  • Jilliby State Conservation Area

Flooding, damaged infrastructure and impassable trail surfaces have been reported.

For your safety, please avoid these areas until damage assessments can be made and any safety issues rectified. This area will re-open as soon as it is safe for visitors.

    • Warrah Trig Road
    • Vah Dahls fire trail

Prickly Ridge Road between Watagan Forest Road and Cut-Rock Road is suitable only for 4WD vehicles.

To prevent further damage visitors are asked to avoid this area and other trails in the Reserve that are still slippery and potentially hazardous.

Closed areas: Track upgrade - Maitland Bay walking track closed

Maitland Bay walking track is closed for track upgrades from Monday 9 May to Friday 24 June 2022. The track is closed for contractor and visitor safety.

There is no access to Maitland Bay via this track during the upgrade works. Alternative access to Maitland Bay is via Mount Bouddi walking track or the Coastal Walk from Putty Beach. Please comply with contractor and NPWS staff directions during this closure.

A number of trails and visitor areas in Bouddi National Park will be temporarily closed on one day between the dates of Monday 16 May and Friday 10 June 2022, due to an aerial spraying program. The closed areas include:

The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting an aerial baiting program in Brisbane Water and Popran National Parks from Sunday 22 May 2022 to Sunday 5 June 2022.

The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes.

The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species, and to minimise impact of wild dogs on neighbouring stock.

Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

This park is closed from 8 April 2022 to 31 May 2022 due to widespread / severe flooding. Penalties apply for non-compliance.

Remember, it’s never safe to drive, ride or walk through flood waters. Roads into and throughout the park are / may also be closed. Check Live Traffic NSW for up-to-date information and contact the local park office.

Warrah Trig Road is closed to vehicles until further notice due to damage from recent rainfall events.

The road has deep ruts and boggy sections, making it unsafe and impassable for vehicles.

The road is open to pedestrians and cyclists. However, please take care when traversing wet sections as they may be slippery.

Alternate pedestrian access to Warrah lookout is available via the Pearl Beach to Patonga fire trail.

Safety alerts: Campbells Point Road Temp Closure - Jilliby SCA

Campbells Point Road and Campbells Point Link Road in the southern section of Jiiliby State Conservation Area will be closed from Wednesday 23 March to Friday 1st April 2022.

The closure is to enable major roadworks to repair the fire trail, for future wildfire response and hazard reduction burning.

Please stay off the fire trail and follow directions on signage, and of NPWS staff and contractors.

Safety alerts: Ironbark Road access to picnic area - Last 850m 4WD only

The last 850m along Ironbark Road (Crown Road) to access Ironbark picnic area is currently limited to 4WD vehicles only. This section is not suitable to conventional 2WD vehicles due to a severely eroded hill along the Crown Road. Visitors to this section of the park travelling by conventional 2WD vehicles will have to walk the last 850 metres to access to the start of the park and Ironbark picnic area.

  • in Brisbane Water National Park in the Sydney and surrounds region
  • Two picnic areas in Brisbane Water National Park close in the evening:

    • Girrakool picnic area is open 7am to 8pm during daylight savings and is open 7am to 6pm at other times
    • Somersby Falls picnic area is open 8am to 8pm during daylight savings and is open 8am to 5pm at other times

    Other areas of Brisbane Water National Park will be open at all times, however may have to close at times due to poor weather or fire danger.
