NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting an aerial baiting program from Monday 13th October 2025 to Monday 27th October 2025. The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes.

The program will take place in Popran, Brisbane Water and Watagans National Parks.

The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species, and to minimise the impact of wild dogs on neighbouring stock.

Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Landlords, please notify tenants or visitors to your property of the proposed operation.

Notice of upcoming maintenance works on Bulgandry Road in Brisbane Water National Park that will result in temporary disruption and closures.

 

The works will support ongoing safe and sustainable visitation of the Brisbane Water National Park.

 

What this means for access:

 

  • Temporary closure of Bulgandry Road, Kariong.

 

The road will be closed on the 13th of October through to the 31st of October. Construction will take place between the hours of 7am and 5pm.

Closed areas: Track closures for helicopter lift 13 October 2025

On 13 October 2025 all tracks between Crosslands and Berowra will be closed to facilitate helicopter operations, including:

  • Crosslands Reserve to Calna Creek Bridge
  • Lyrebird Gully Loop Trail between Glen View Road and Berkeley Trail.
  • Berkeley Trail
  • Crowley Road Great North Walk Feeder trails, from Crowley Road to Berkeley Trail.
  • Gundah Ridge Trail from the end of Beaumont Road to the Great North Walk.
  • Cumbora Trail. All Trails between Cumbora Road Berowra and the Great north Walk.
  • Intermittent traffic impacts on Somerville Road (refer to Intermittent Road Closure map)

Closure locations will include signage and traffic spotters to prevent any walkers entering the area.

Somersby Falls walking track, including access to the middle and bottom waterfalls will be closed until 31 October 2025 while the track is upgraded.

The picnic area and carpark will remain open during the works.

Consider visiting the nearby Girrakool picnic area less than 5 minutes away which also has waterfalls, walking tracks and a well established picnic area.

Lane Cove Depot Road and part of Max Allen Road, along with the adjacent picnic areas, will be closed from 31 March 2025 to 24 October 2025 due to essential geotechnical works. Weather events may extend these works. 

The following areas will be closed to all pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles:

  • Lane Cove Depot Road 
  • Max Allen Road will have no public access beyond Lane Cove Cafe and area office.

Berowra walking track is partially closed from Apple Tree Bay to the Mt-Ku-ring-gai access track until further notice. There is a threat of rockfalls due to slope instability caused by recent weather events. NPWS is in the process of carrying out necessary repair works.

Swimming is not advisable in Berowra Creek at certain times as the water may be subject to variable pollution levels and algal blooms. Please refer to the Hornsby Shire Council website before swimming in Berowra Creek. Alternatively you can call the Hornsby Council 24 hour information line on 9847 6666 or the Algal information line on 1800 999 457.

Swimming at Fishponds is not advised at any time due to heavy water pollution.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service will be conducting a baiting program using manufactured baits, fresh baits and Canid Pest Ejectors (CPEs) containing 1080 poison (sodium fluroacetate) for the control of foxes. The program is continuous and ongoing between 1 August 2025 and 31 January 2026 in Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park. Don’t touch baits or ejector devices. Penalties apply for non-compliance.

Closed areas: Partial closure Piles Creek Loop Walking Track

Part of Piles Creek Loop Walking Track will be closed until 30 June 2026 while rockfall investigations and mitigation works are undertaken.

The closed area is between the suspension bridge and Bundilla Lookout on the western side of Piles Creek.

Areas that will remain open are:

  • Piles Creek Loop Walking Track on the eastern side of Piles Creek 
  • Access to the Great North Walk from Girrakool Picnic Area 
  • Bundilla Lookout
