Closed parks: Park closed due to flood damage

All areas in this park are closed from Monday 10 February 2020 until further notice due to flood damage and unsafe conditions. This includes all tracks, trails, campgrounds and picnic areas. Access through parks may be limited. Please find alternate routes. Do not enter this park. Penalties apply for non-compliance.

Closed areas: Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park - partial closure

All roads and visitor precincts in Ku-ring-gai west have now reopened, though some facilities such as barbecues and toilets may still be affected.

Some areas remain closed due to flooding and unsafe conditions. The closed areas include:

  • Kalkari Visitor Centre 
  • Gibberagong Education Centre
  • All tracks and trails

All areas within Ku-ring-gai east are open.

Safety alerts: Boat moorings in Cowan Waters

The NPWS public boat moorings in Cowan Waters may be out of service for a short period due to servicing and maintenance. Works are expected to finish by the end of February 2020. For more information, contact the Bobbin Head Information Centre on 02 9472 8949.

Other planned events: 1080 pest management

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service is doing 1080 ground baiting using manufactured baits, fresh baits and Canid Pest Ejectors (CPEs) in Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park.

The program is continuous and ongoing between 1 February 2020 and 31 July 2020. All baiting locations will be identifiable by signs. Don’t touch baits or ejector devices. Penalties apply for non-compliance.

Please be reminded that domestic pets are not permitted on NPWS estate. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Fox baiting in these reserves is aimed at reducing their impact on threatened species.

From Tuesday 31 December 2019, annual passes will no longer be sold at NPWS Forestville office. Passes can be purchased online, in person or by phone.

There is no public access available through private property to Old Wagstaffe trail.   • in Brisbane Water National Park in the Sydney and surrounds region
  • Two picnic areas within the park close of an evening:

    • Girrakool picnic area is open 9am to 5pm every day
    • Somersby Falls picnic area is open 8am to 8pm during daylight savings and is open 8am to 5pm at other times

    Other areas of Brisbane Water National Park will be open at all times, however may have to close at times due to poor weather or fire danger.

  • Park entry fees:

    $8 per vehicle per day applies at Girrakool and Somersby Falls picnic areas. The park has coin-operated pay and display machines - please bring correct coins.

    Other fees:

    You will need a permit to hold a wedding or undertake commercial photography within the park.
