All tracks and trails in Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park are closed on Monday 1 December 2025 due to a Total Fire Ban and elevated Fire Danger rating.

The following areas are closed:

  • West Head road
  • West Head lookout
  • Salvation Creek picnic area
  • Barrenjoey headland
  • Sphinx memorial precinct
  • Stringybark Ridge precinct
  • Kalkari track
  • All remote campgrounds (accessible by water only)

These areas will remain open:

  • Apple Tree Bay picnic area
  • Apple Tree Bay boat ramp
  • Bobbin Head picnic areas
  • Bobbin Head Marina
  • Duckholes picnic area
  • Illawong Bay picnic area
  • Gibberagong Boardwalk
  • Kalkari Discovery Centre (the walking track is closed)
  • The Basin campground and picnic area (accessible by water only)

Closed areas: Little Beach walking track and trail closed for road works

Access to Little Beach will be closed for road works from 6am to 2pm Monday to Friday on the following dates:

  • 1 to 5 December 2025

Closed areas include:

  • Little Beach Walking Track (between Grahame Drive and Mourawaring Moor Trail)
  • Little Beach Trail
  • Little Beach campground and picnic area
  • Bouddi Coastal Walk between Little Beach Trail and Bombi Moor Fire Trail

These areas will re-open 2pm on the 5th for the weekend.

Visitors using the Bouddi Coastal Walk can alternatively exit to Little Beach Carpark (at Grahame Drive) via the Old Quarry Trail.

Barriers and signage will be in place around the closed area.

Closed areas: Somersby Falls walking track closed for upgrade

Somersby Falls walking track, including access to the middle and bottom waterfalls will be closed until 12 December 2025 while the track is upgraded.

The picnic area and carpark will remain open during the works.

Consider visiting the nearby Girrakool picnic area less than 5 minutes away which also has waterfalls, walking tracks and a well established picnic area.

There is no safe location to park a vehicle on the side of McCarrs Creek Road to reach Upper Gledhills Falls. For your own safety, climbing and abseiling are prohibited here. Please visit Duckholes picnic area instead.

Closed areas: Partial closure Piles Creek Loop Walking Track

Part of Piles Creek Loop Walking Track will be closed until 30 June 2026 while rockfall investigations and mitigation works are undertaken.

The closed area is between the suspension bridge and Bundilla Lookout on the western side of Piles Creek.

Areas that will remain open are:

  • Piles Creek Loop Walking Track on the eastern side of Piles Creek 
  • Access to the Great North Walk from Girrakool Picnic Area 
  • Bundilla Lookout

Closed areas: Warrah Trig Road closed to vehicles

Warrah Trig Road is closed to vehicles due to an increase in illegal activities throughout the area.

The road will remain closed until investigations are completed and further recommendations are made.

The road is open to pedestrians and cyclists.

Park info

  • in Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park in the Sydney and surrounds region
  • Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park is always open but may have to close at times due to poor weather or fire danger.

    • Gates to West Head are closed from 8.30pm to 6am during daylight savings periods, and from 6pm to 6am the rest of the year.
    • Gates to Sphinx Memorial carpark are closed overnight from 7pm.
  • Park entry fees:

    $12 per vehicle per day. You can also pay for your visit via the Park’nPay app.

    Vehicles over 8 seats: $4.40 per adult, $2.20 per child (per day).

    Other fees:

    A $3 per adult, $2 per child landing fee may apply for day visitors to The Basin campground. Please pay at the campground wharf. Landing fees are included in your camping fees.

    Group bookings:

    Under the Plan of Management for this park, prior written approval is required for organised groups of 40 or more people planning to visit this park. Contact the park office before your visit.
