Other planned events: Closure for aerial spraying program

A number of management trails, walking tracks and visitor areas in Bouddi NP will be closed for an aerial spraying program between Friday 6 August and Friday 3 September 2021. The closed areas are in the eastern and southern coastal sections of the park, the assets affected are:

These areas will be closed for 1 day while the helicopter spraying of bitou bush is conducted. 

NPWS staff will be present during the helicopter spray operations. Please follow safety signs and directions given by staff. The herbicide used is Metsulfuron-methyl 600WG.

Closed areas: Gibberagong boardwalk closed

Gibberagong boardwalk will be closed to all visitors from Tuesday 6 April to mid July 2021, while the boardwalk is replaced. During this time there will be no access to Gibberagong track from Bobbin Head. 

Walkers along Gibberagong track who have entered from Murrua Road, North Turramurra or Grosvenor Street, North Wahroonga will be turned around at Gibberagong boardwalk and will not be able to access Bobbin Head picnic areas. Signage and security fencing will be in placed around closed areas.

A section of Piles Creek Loop walking track will be temporarily closed from Monday 3 May 2021 to Monday 30 August 2021 for maintenance works. The walking track will be closed on the eastern side of Piles Creek between Illoura lookout and the intersection with the Great North Walk, south of Rat Gully.

The following areas will remain open:

  • The section of walking track on the western side of Piles Creek, linking the suspension bridge and Girrakool Picnic Area.

From Monday 5 July 2021 vegetation works will be carried out the along the Quarry trail within Berowra Valley National Park. Works are expected to be completed within 4 weeks, weather permitting.

There may be short-term delays and temporary trail closures while crews carry out vegetation works on either side of the trail. These works are essential to ensure access for emergency vehicles is maintained. Please be cautious around moving machinery and wait for workers' instructions before passing.

The Whale Platform elevated walkway on Mt Ku-ring-gai walking track is closed due to serious safety concerns.

The platform will be barricaded and signage in place. No access will be permitted across the platform.

The following sections remain open:

  • Walkers from Berowra Station can walk as far as the platform closure point (6.5km one way), before returning to Berowra Station. 
  • Walkers can walk between Mt Ku-ring-gai Station and Apple Tree Bay (3.5km one way)
  • Walkers from Apple Tree Bay or Mt Ku-ring-gai Station can also walk as far as the platform closure point (1km one way from Apple Tree Bay).

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be conducting an ongoing aerial and ground baiting program in this park from Monday 17 May to Wednesday 17 November 2021. The operation will involve the use of meat baits, meat bait products and ejectors containing 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes.

This program is designed to minimise the impact of foxes on wildlife, especially after the recent extensive bushfires, and to minimise the impact of wild dogs and foxes on neighbouring stock. This program is carried out as part of the following Blue Mountains Branch Pest Management Strategies: Western Hunter Wild Dog Management Plan, Central Hunter Wild Dog Management Plan & Post Fire Aerial Baiting Program.

All baiting locations will be identified by signs. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW national parks and reserves. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting locations. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

A pest control program using 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison will be conducted from Friday 14 May to Friday 10 September 2021. This baiting program is targeting wild dogs, which, are a major predator of native wildlife.

Buried baits and capsules in ejector devices will be laid in a continuous and ongoing manner throughout Palm Grove Nature Reserve during this period.

Warning signs will be displayed in target areas and visitors must not touch baits.

Swimming is not advisable in Berowra Creek at certain times as the water may be subject to variable pollution levels and algal blooms. Please refer to the Hornsby Shire Council website before swimming in Berowra Creek. Alternatively you can call the Hornsby Council 24 hour information line on 9847 6666 or the Algal information line on 1800 999 457.

Swimming at Fishponds is not advised at any time due to heavy water pollution.

The last 850m along Ironbark Road (Crown Road) to access Ironbark picnic area is currently limited to 4WD vehicles only. This section is not suitable to conventional 2WD vehicles due to a severely eroded hill along the Crown Road. Visitors to this section of the park travelling by conventional 2WD vehicles will have to walk the last 850 metres to access to the start of the park and Ironbark picnic area.

    • Somersby Falls picnic area is open 8am to 8pm during daylight savings and is open 8am to 5pm at other times

    Other areas of Brisbane Water National Park will be open at all times, however may have to close at times due to poor weather or fire danger.

     

     

  • Park entry fees:

    $8 per vehicle per day applies at Girrakool and Somersby Falls picnic areas. The park has coin-operated pay and display machines - please bring correct coins.

    Other fees:

    You will need a permit to hold a wedding or undertake commercial photography within the park.
