Many roads, fire trails and walking tracks in Blue Mountains National Park are closed due to infrastructure repairs, upgrades or damage caused by wet weather including subsidence, rockfalls, landslides and fallen trees.

Katoomba and Leura

Katoomba Kiosk Reserve, Reids Plateau and Round Walk east are closed to due to Council upgrades. For details visit the Blue Mountains City Council website.
Honeymoon Bridge is closed due to rockfall hazards. (Visible bridge from Echo Point. Side route off Three Sisters Track and Giant Stairs).
Furber Steps walk and Round walking track (full loop) are closed from 20 May to 30 June 2026, for track upgrade works. There will be no access to Federal Pass from these tracks. Alternative access/exits are via Fern Bower, Giant Stairway, or Scenic World (costs apply). Visitors can also access Federal Pass from Golden Stairs however access via these routes is more adventurous and remote.
Glenraphael Drive (Narrow Neck fire trail) is closed to vehicles near Cliff Drive due to a road subsidence. There is no vehicle access to Golden Stairs trackhead. Walkers and cyclists are permitted.
Glenraphael Drive (Narrow Neck) south of Pumphouse Trail Golden Stairs, Federal Pass (from Golden Stairs to Scenic World Valley Stations), will be closed intermittently for a helicopter operation from 18 June to 19 June 2026. Delays should be expected.
Part of Lindeman Pass is closed due to a major landslide below Gladstone lookout. Roberts Pass is closed due to rockfall and landslide hazards.
Six Foot track is closed at the boundary to the Jenolan Caves Karst Conservation Reserve. Jenolan Karst Conservation Reserve (including the Caves Visitor Precinct) is closed until 31 December 2026. There is no access to the entire reserve during this time.
Mt Hay Road will be closed from 9 June to 17 December 2026 for Fire Trail upgrades. There will be no vehicle or pedestrian access during this time.
No access to Fortress Ridge/Canyon, Butterbox track, Mount Hay Summit track and Lockleys Pylon walking track from 9 June to 17 December to allow for upgrade works along Mt Hay.

Wentworth Falls and Woodford

Pedestrian and vehicle access to Wentworth Falls picnic area and carpark from Falls Road will be closed from 16 June to 17 June 2026 for tree work. Visitors will be able to walk in and out from Murphy's Lane, Darwins Walk or Conservation Hut only.
Part of National Pass (west of Wentworth Falls middle crossing) is closed due to a major landslide and ongoing risks.
Wentworth Pass and Slack Stairs are closed due to elevated boardwalk repairs. There is no access to Roberts Pass, Hippocrene or Vera Falls routes.
Valley of the Waters is closed below Silvia Falls due rockfall hazards. There is no access to Roberts Pass, Hippocrene or Vera Falls.
Princes Rock walking track is closed for maintenance until 30 June 2026. Princes Rock lookout is however accessible from Overcliff/Undercliff track.
Fletchers lookout is closed for maintenance until 30 June 2026.
Lincolns Rock is closed. For details visit the Blue Mountains City Council website.
Winbourne fire trail (L6) in Woodford will be closed for maintenance from 25 May to 26 June 2026.
Lawson Ridge fire trail will be closed for road maintenance from 10 June to 10 July 2026.

Blackheath, Mount Victoria, Megalong Valley and Bells Line of Road

Green Gully precinct including Dunphys Campground and Galong Cabins is closed for road upgrade works until 1 July 2026 (weather dependent). This means there is no access to the K-2-K, Iron Pot Route, Breakfast Creek, Ironmonger Route or Bellbird Ridge Fire Trail.
Pulpit Rock Reserve, lookouts and part of the walking track are closed. For more information visit the Blue Mountains City Council website. Pulpit Rock walking track from Popes Glen is open as far as the NPWS boundary (as shown on Google maps).
Govetts descent and parts of Rodriguez Pass are closed due to rockfalls and landslides. Valley access from Blackheath is via Horse Track.

Adventure recreation, canyons, abseiling and rock climbing

Juggler (aka Point Pilcher) Canyon exit has been affected by a recent rockfall event. Canyoners should use caution and exit around the impact site.

Walkers heading east should exit Flat Rock track at the Downpatrick Street fire trail and use Downpatrick Street, then Killarney Drive until you reach the end of Killarney Drive. Re-enter Flat Rock track from the Killarney Drive entrance.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting an aerial spraying program from Tuesday 9 June 2026 to Friday 26 June 2026. The operation will use Glyphosate 360 g/L for the control of Bitou bush.

The program is designed to control Bitou bush infestations in remote and inaccessible locations.

The program will take place at Pelican Beach in Wyrrabalong (North) National Park and Moonee Beach in Munmorah State Conservation Area.

NPWS staff will be present and patrolling closed areas during the operation. The following closures will apply when operations are underway:

Wyrrabalong National Park:

Sections of Pelican Beach between Pelican Beach Lookout to Pelican Point.

Munmorah State Conservation Area:

Moonee Beach Fire Trail - beach access points will be closed with access permitted via the walking track steps and the beach to the north of these access locations.

Signs will be placed at the entry to the spray locations and there will be no public access during the spray operation. The spray operation is expected to take 2 to 3 days. The exact dates and times of closures will be subject to favourable weather conditions.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting a one-off ground baiting program from 18 May 2026 to 30 June 2026.

The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes.

The program will take place in Wollemi National Park (in Jerrys Plains / Appletree Flat area) and Manobalai Nature Reserve.

The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species, and to minimise impact of wild dogs on neighbouring stock.

Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

NPWS has closed the unauthorised Muppet Track in Terrey Hills, Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park, to protect an Asset of Intergenerational Significance (AIS) site.

This area contains endangered Grevillea caleyi plants and Duffys Forest Endangered Ecological Community. The track was illegally constructed by recreational users through sensitive bushland.

A small section of the track will remain open to enable access between Terrey Hills and St Ives until a formal alternative can be established.

Yiraaldiya National Park is a feral predator-free area. This means that feral predators, such as red foxes and feral cats, are being eradicated from the park. Locally extinct native wildlife are being reintroduced, including eastern bettongs, koalas and long-nosed bandicoots. For this reason, there is no access to the park while the feral predator-free area is being established. Once complete, the park will open for sustainable visitor access and enjoyment, and educational and research opportunities.

During the closure period visitors may not visit the park, and only NPWS staff and authorised contractors and volunteers are allowed entry to the park.

Pink Caves are closed to visitors because they are extremely unsafe to visit.

The caves are filled with water at high tide. Even at low tide they can be dangerous, as the ocean swell sends unpredictable waves sweeping into the caves and across the rock shelf. Sudden rogue waves can cause serious injury and may drag visitors across the rocks or out to sea.

There is no lifeguard service in this area and access for emergency services is limited. There’s no approved walking track to this location. Access to the caves involves walking over a rock shelf which is slippery, uneven and dangerous.

Visitors should take care when traversing all rock shelves and coastal areas located within Munmorah State Conservation Area.

Muirs Lookout Picnic Area on Prickly Ridge Road has been closed due to ageing infrastructure, obstructed lookout views to the coast and very low public visitation. Alternative picnic facilities are located nearby in Olney State Forest and Watagans National Park. Further information on other places to visit can be obtained via the NPWS or Forestry Corporation websites.

Closed areas: Warrah Trig Road closed to vehicles

Warrah Trig Road is closed to vehicles due to an increase in illegal activities throughout the area.

The road will remain closed until investigations are completed and further recommendations are made.

The road is open to pedestrians and cyclists.

Middle Camp DA/2238/2017 - has begun works in the Catherine Hill Bay area adjacent to lands managed by Munmorah State Conservation Area. These works due to the location now has temporary closures to access trails for Munmorah SCA. This is necessary for the contractor managing this development in order to maintain a safe construction site and public safety.

NPWS apologises for the inconvenience and are unable to provide alternate access.

This temporary closure affects:

Collier fire trail
Powerline fire trail and
Middle Camp fire trail

Please be advised that these closures will not stop access to fire vehicles in emergencies and does not cause a safety concern.

Parts of the NSW Central Coast are a declared high risk area due to large swells and hazardous surf conditions. In these high risk areas under the NSW Rock Fishing Safety Act 2016, you are required by law to wear an appropriate life jacket. This includes children and anyone helping you fish. This is regulated by NSW Fisheries and poses an on the spot $100 fine if non-compliant.

Before rock fishing you should always:

check for park alerts or closures
check the tides, swell and weather conditions before setting out and never fish in exposed areas during rough or large seas or in electrical storms.
Wear your life jacket, appropriate light weight clothing and non-slip footwear

Stay safe, always watch the local conditions, never turn your back on the ocean and never fish alone.

If you’re in doubt don’t go out.
