Other planned events: Notice of ongoing 1080 program
NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting ongoing ground baiting programs. 1080 ground baiting is scheduled from 7 April 2025 to 6 October 2025. The operation will use manufactured baits, fresh baits and Canid Pest Ejectors (CPEs), Felixer grooming traps containing 1080 poison (sodium fluroacetate) for the control of foxes and feral cats.
Ground baiting will occur in Yiraaldiya National Park (formerly Shanes Park).
The program is designed to eradicate feral predators in a feral predator free area before reintroducing locally extinct animals including threatened species. Baits will only be laid inside the fenced area (the baiting location).
Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.
Please contact the local Cumberland NPWS area office for more information on 4580 2750 during business hours and NPWS after-hours call centre: 1300 056 294 (after hours)

Closed parks: Yiraaldiya National Park closed during the establishment of feral predator-free area
Yiraaldiya National Park is a feral predator-free area. This means that feral predators, such as red foxes and feral cats, are being eradicated from the park. Locally extinct native wildlife are being reintroduced, including eastern bettongs, koalas and long-nosed bandicoots. For this reason, there is no access to the park while the feral predator-free area is being established. Once complete, the park will open for sustainable visitor access and enjoyment, and educational and research opportunities.
During the closure period visitors may not visit the park, and only NPWS staff and authorised contractors and volunteers are allowed entry to the park.
Penalties apply for non-compliance. For more information call the local park office on 02 4580 2750.
