Closed areas: Pipeline Track Closed

The Pipeline track from Newnes campground to Glen Davis is closed due to landslide.

Closed areas: Newnes Campground Pedestrian Access Only

Newnes campground is available for walk-in access only starting from Saturday 23 September. The campground is remote and can only be accessed by long walks via the Old Coach Road only.

Campers need to be fully self-sufficient and carry all supplies including drinking water. Campers are strongly advised to complete a trip intention form for their safety. Pack it in, pack it out – please take all rubbish with you when you leave.

There is no walking access via the Pipeline Track from Glen Davis.

There is no road access due to the Wolgan Road collapse and continuing land slip risk at Wolgan Gap. Wolgan Road is managed by Lithgow Council.

Fire bans: Park fire ban

A park fire ban is in place in this park and remains in effect unless otherwise extended or removed.

The following campgrounds are exempt:

  • Galong Cabins, Burralow Creek and Euroka campgrounds in Blue Mountains National Park
  • Coorongooba, Ganguddy-Dunns Swamp, Newnes, Wheeny Creek and Colo Meroo campgrounds in Wollemi National Park.

During park fire ban periods, all campfire and solid fuel (wood, heat beads, charcoal, briquettes, hexamine) barbecues and stoves are prohibited. Gas and electric barbecues and cookers are permitted as long as:

  • They're under direct control of an adult
  • The ground within 2m of the barbecue is cleared of all flammable materials
  • There's an adequate supply of water (minimum of a bucket)

If a Total Fire Ban is in place, different rules apply. Contact the local park office before bringing a gas or electric barbecue or cooker.

Closed areas: Road works on Baal Bone Trail (Ben Bullen Trail)

Road works are currently in progress on Baal Bone Trail.

No through access from Baal Bone Trail to:

  • Baal Bone Gap Picnic Area
  • Ben Bullen Mountain Top Lookout
  • Cameron Point Trail
  • Gardens of Stone National Park

This closure may be extended depending on conditions and progress of the works.

Closed areas: Glow Worm Tunnel closure

The Glow Worm Tunnel visitor precinct and associated walking tracks will be closed until Saturday 23rd December 2023 for upgrades.

This closure includes:

  • Glow Worm Tunnel carpark
  • Glow Worm Tunnel walking track
  • Pagoda track (Old Coach track)
  • Glow Worm Tunnel to Newnes walking track (to ‘four-ways’ intersection).
  • Dry Canyon track (Wolgan View canyon).

There is no access to Glow Worm Tunnel walking tracks during this time.

From Saturday 23rd December 2023 to Monday 9th January the Glow Worm Tunnel visitor precinct will be opened.

Glow Worm Tunnel to Newnes walking track (to ‘four-ways’ intersection) will remain closed for this period.

The Glow Worm Tunnel and associated walking tracks will be closed again for additional upgrades from Tuesday 10th January 2024.

Closed areas: Sunnyside Ridge Road closed

Sunnyside Ridge Road is closed due to unsafe conditions. Damaged mining infrastructure poses a risk to park visitors. The road will remain closed until remedial works make the road safe again.

The closure is inclusive of side tracks, The Spanish Steps and Campbells Road. This closure may be extended depending on progress of the works.

Safety alerts: Haulage trucks using Old Bells Line of Rd

Haulage trucks are in operation along Old Bells Line of Rd between the park entrance near Chifley Road (Zig Zag Railway) and Clarence Sands during the following times:

• Monday to Friday: 04.00 to 18.00

• Saturday: 04.00 to 13.00

 

During these times road users are reminded to:

• drive with caution

• adhere to the speed limit of 40 km/hr

• listen for truck movements via UHF-11

A park fire ban is in effect from Sunday 1 October 2023 to Tuesday 30 April 2024 unless otherwise extended or removed at Gardens of Stone State Conservation Area. The park fire ban applies to all areas of the park. During the ban, all campfires and solid fuel (wood, heat beads, charcoal, briquettes, hexamine) barbecues and stoves are prohibited. Gas and electric barbecues and cookers are permitted as long as:

  • They're under direct control of an adult
  • The ground within 2m of the barbecue is cleared of all flammable materials
  • There's an adequate supply of water (minimum of a bucket)

If a Total Fire Ban is in place, different rules apply. Contact the Oberon NPWS office on 02 6336 6200 before bringing a gas or electric barbecue or cooker.
