Closed areas: Part Somersby Falls walking track closed for upgrade

Part of Somersby Falls walking track will be closed until 6pm  Friday 17 April 2026 for upgrade works.

The closure affects the section of the walking track between the Middle Falls and Bottom Falls.

The walking track to Middle Falls, the picnic area and the carpark will remain open during this time.

Fencing and signage will be in place around the closed area to ensure visitor safety.

Closed areas: Partial closure Piles Creek Loop Walking Track

Part of Piles Creek Loop Walking Track will be closed while rockfall investigations and mitigation works are undertaken.

The closed area is between the suspension bridge and Bundilla Lookout on the western side of Piles Creek.

Areas that will remain open are:

  • Piles Creek Loop Walking Track on the eastern side of Piles Creek 
  • Access to the Great North Walk from Girrakool Picnic Area 
  • Bundilla Lookout 

Barriers and signage are in place around the closed area.

Closed areas: Quarry Road Hazard Reduction in Berowra Valley National Park

Some parts of Berowra Valley National Park are closed for hazard reduction burning from Friday 10 April 2026. The burn is bounded by Hemers Rd and Quarry Rd, Dural to the south, Tunks Creek to the west, Berowra Creek to the east, and Galston Gorge to the north. . All tracks, trails, lookouts, and campgrounds within and approaching the burn area will be closed, including the Great North Walk.

To undertake this burn the following tracks, trails and campgrounds will be closed:

  • Quarry trail between Quarry Road, Dural and Stewart Avenue, Hornsby.
  • Mitchell trail in Galston.
  • Rowland trail in Galston.
  • The Great North Walk Between Quarter Sessions Road Westleigh and Galston Gorge.
  • Simon fire trail, The Outlook trail, Ulolo trail and Upper Gorge trail in Hornsby Heights.
  • Ryan trail, Hornsby.
  • Tunks Ridge fire trail
  • The Blue Gum Walk between Fishponds and Ginger Meggs Park.
  • Rowland trail
  • Charltons Creek trail
  • Tunks Ridge camping area

For walkers heading north along the Great North Walk they can detour via Ginger Meggs Trail, walk to Rosemead Park and walk up the convict stairs to Hornsby Station.

Go by train from Hornsby to Mt Kuringai and rejoin the Great North Walk at the Glenview St entrance.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting an aerial baiting program in Manobalai Nature Reserve (NR), Parr State Conservation Area (SCA), Wollemi FR, Dharug NP and Yengo NP from Monday 20th April – Sunday 3rd May 2026.

The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes. St

The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species, and to minimise the impact of wild dogs on neighbouring stock.

Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service are undertaking fire trail maintenance works on the Pearl Beach to Patonga Fire Trail.

Maintenance will repair damaged surfaces, drainage assets and essential trail infrastructure, as well as maintain vegetation clearances.

The trail will remain open throughout the works, though short delays may occur. Please follow all safety signage and directions from roadwork personnel.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service will be conducting a baiting program using manufactured baits, fresh baits and Canid Pest Ejectors (CPEs) containing 1080 poison (sodium fluroacetate) for the control of foxes. The program is continuous and ongoing between 1 February and 31 July 2026 in Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park.

All baiting locations are identifiable by signs. Don’t touch baits or ejector devices. Penalties apply for non-compliance.

Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW national parks and reserves. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Closed areas: Berowra walking track partial closure

Berowra walking track is partially closed from Apple Tree Bay to the Mount Ku-ring-gai access track until further notice. There continues to be a threat of rockfalls and foreshore slumps due to slope instability caused by previous weather events. NPWS is updating detailed assessments to undertake essential repair works.

Berowra walking track from Berowra Station to Mount Ku-ring-gai remains open.

Swimming is not advisable in Berowra Creek at certain times as the water may be subject to variable pollution levels and algal blooms. Please refer to the Hornsby Shire Council website before swimming in Berowra Creek. Alternatively you can call the Hornsby Council 24 hour information line on 9847 6666 or the Algal information line on 1800 999 457.

Swimming at Fishponds is not advised at any time due to heavy water pollution.
