Works will commence on the Barnett's playground in Berowra Valley National Park on Friday 4 May 2023. The existing playground will be removed and it is expected that the new playground will be completed by the end of July 2023. For more information, call the local Area office on (02) 8448 0400.

Warrimoo fire trail is closed from Tuesday 13 June to Thursday 15 June 2023 for vegetation maintenance works. There will be no pedestrian access to the trail during this time. The Sphinx and Warrimoo walking tracks will be open from Bobbin Head to North Turramurra, but access to St Ives via the Warrimoo fire trail is not permitted.

A number of areas will be closed in Bouddi National Park for an aerial weed spraying program for 1 day between Thursday 1 June and Wednesday 28 June 2023. The closed areas will be all walking tracks and management trails from Mourawaring (Second) Point in the north to Lobster Beach in the south, along the headlands and sea cliffs of eastern and southern areas of the park. NPWS staff will be present during the helicopter spray operations, please follow safety signs and directions given by staff. The herbicide used is Metsulfuron-methyl 600WG. The following areas are closed from Monday 22 May to Thursday 30 November 2023 while West Head lookout upgrades are underway:

Vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians will have access to the Resolute picnic area and public toilets. Access is restricted past this point.

  • Aboriginal Heritage track
  • Resolute track, including access to Resolute Beach and West Head Beach
  • Mackeral Beach track
  • Koolewong track.

The West Head lookout cannot be accessed from any of these tracks.

Some parts of this park are closed for hazard reduction burning Thursday 1 June 2023 until further notice. The closed areas are:

  • Centre trail
  • Illawong Bay picnic area
  • Illawong Point
  • All areas north-west of Centre trail between General San Martin Drive.

General San Martin Drive will be reduced to one lane with traffic flowing in a clockwise direction and may be closed completely at short notice.

Akuna Bay will remain open. To access Akuna Bay, turn off McCarrs Creek Road onto General San Martin Drive. It will not be possible to approach Akuna Bay from West Head Road.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting an aerial baiting program in Dharug National Park (NP), Manobalai Nature Reserve (NR), Parr State Conservation Area (SCA), Wollemi NP, Wollemi SCA and Yengo NP from Monday 22nd May 2023 to Friday 2nd June 2023.

The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes.

The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species, and to minimise impact of wild dogs on neighbouring stock.

Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

North Mackerel track is permanently closed due to a potential risk of rockfalls and unstable cliff edges in the Great Mackerel Beach area.

The only designated land access to or from Great Mackerel Beach is via Mackerel track to the north, which intersects with Resolute track.

Due to land instability and risk to personal safety, there is no through or return access to or from the following places:

  • The south end of Great Mackerel Beach via The Basin or Mackerel trail
  • The west of Great Mackerel Beach via North Mackerel track, which is closed.

Please remember the risks associated with visiting natural areas, including rock falls, unstable edges, falling branches and interactions with wildlife.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is undertaking fire trail maintenance works in Brisbane Water National Park from Monday 19 September 2022 for a period of up to 9 months (pending suitable weather conditions).

The maintenance work will repair damaged drainage assets and infrastructure that supports and is essential to the ongoing operation of the trails as well as maintaining vegetation clearances.

Trails will remain open for the duration of the construction works, with adequate signage and diversions (if required) in place.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service will be conducting a baiting program using manufactured baits, fresh baits and Canid Pest Ejectors (CPEs) containing 1080 poison (sodium fluroacetate) for the control of foxes. The program is continuous and ongoing between 1 February 2023 and 31 July 2023 in Garigal National Park. Don’t touch baits or ejector devices. Penalties apply for non-compliance.

 

All baiting locations are identifiable by signs.

Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW national parks and reserves. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Fox baiting in these reserves is aimed at reducing their impact on threatened species.

Fort Denison is currently closed.

Conservation and upgrade works are currently underway. Key elements include the construction of a new accessible wharf and maintenance and upgrade to buildings and services. Fort Denison will be closed to visitors until these works have been completed.

Penalties apply for non-compliance.

Standard work hours during the construction phase will be between:

  • 7am and 6pm Monday to Friday
  • 8am and 1pm on Saturday

Closed parks: Muogamarra Nature Reserve closed

Muogamarra Nature Reserve is only open to the public for 6 weeks every year, around spring time.

Due to the sensitive nature of the reserve, access is restricted at other times to approved educational and research activities only.

Safety alerts: Ironbark Road access to picnic area - Last 850m 4WD only

The last 850m along Ironbark Road (Crown Road) to access Ironbark picnic area is currently limited to 4WD vehicles only. This section is not suitable to conventional 2WD vehicles due to a severely eroded hill along the Crown Road. Visitors to this section of the park travelling by conventional 2WD vehicles will have to walk the last 850 metres to access to the start of the park and Ironbark picnic area.

Closed areas: Flat Rock track partial closure

The section of Flat Rock track from the Killarney Drive entrance to the Downpatrick Street entrance, is permanently closed where the old track passes through private property near Killarney Point.

Please note:

  • Walkers heading west should exit Flat Rock track at the eastern end of Killarney Drive and use Killarney Drive until you reach Downpatrick Street. Then walk down the street and re-enter Flat Rock track from the Downpatrick Street fire trail.
  • Walkers heading east should exit Flat Rock track at the Downpatrick Street fire trail and use Downpatrick Street, then Killarney Drive until you reach the end of Killarney Drive. Re-enter Flat Rock track from the Killarney Drive entrance.
