Closed areas: Section of Flat Rock track closed

A section of Flat Rock track - from the Killarney Drive entrance to the Downpatrick Street entrance - is currently closed until further notice due to track safety issues where the track passes through private property near Killarney Point:

  • Walkers heading west should exit Flat Rock track at the eastern end of Killarney Drive and use Killarney Drive until you reach Downpatrick Street. Then walk down the street and re-enter Flat Rock track from the Downpatrick Street fire trail.
  • Walkers heading east should exit Flat Rock track at the Downpatrick Street fire trail and use Downpatrick Street, then Killarney Drive until you reach the end of Killarney Drive. Re-enter Flat Rock track from the Killarney Drive entrance.

Closed areas: North Head Fire - closed areas

Some parts of North Head in Sydney Harbour National Park are closed due to fire damage. The closed areas include:

  • North Head Scenic Drive, after the carparks opposite Bella Vista Cafe and before the North Head Scenic Drive loop road.
  • Bluefish Drive past the Gunner Road Car Park entrance
  • Fairfax walk and lookout
  • All tracks and trails south of Bluefish Drive and along North Head Scenic Drive past the Q Station roundabout.

Open areas include:

  • The track between Shelly Beach and Bluefish Drive
  • North Head Scenic Drive until just beyond the Bella Vista Cafe

Lane Cove River weir crossing is closed due to heavy rainfall and flooding. Pedestrians and cyclists can detour via the footpath along Lady Game Drive.

Access to sanitation products and running water cannot be guaranteed. We recommend bringing hand soap, hand wipes and toilet paper with you to maintain good hygiene as advised by the NSW Government.

Lane Cove Depot Road in Lane Cove National Park will be closed from Monday 16 April 2020 until further notice while the road is being upgraded to improve safety for road users. During this time vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians are not permitted to use the road.

Closed areas: Visitor areas closed

Many COVID-19 restrictions have now been lifted from visitor precincts and facilities. However, several tracks and trails will remain closed while upgrades and remediation works are completed. These closures include: 

  • Monday 22 June 2020 until further notice - Pogsons Trig trail will be closed while upgrade and remediation works are happening
  • Twin Beaches campground and toilet block remain closed until further notice while upgrade works are conducted
  • Tunks Ridge campground remains closed until further notice while staff assess safety concerns 

Please remember to practice appropriate social distancing requirements and good hygiene. NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service will be conducting a baiting program in Garigal National Park between Saturday 1 August 2020 and Sunday 31 January 2021. The program involves the use of manufactured baits, fresh baits and Canid Pest Ejectors (CPEs) containing 1080 poison (sodium fluroacetate) for the control of foxes. The operation is continuous and ongoing. Don’t touch baits or ejector devices.

All baiting locations are signposted.

Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW national parks and reserves. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). The program is continuous and ongoing between Saturday 1 August 2020 and Sunday 31 January 2021 in Sydney Harbour National Park.

The affected areas are:

  • Chowder Bay
  • Dobroyd, Bradleys, Georges, Middle and North Headlands (North Head includes adjoining land of Sydney Harbour Federation Trust, Australian Institute of Police Management, and Quarantine Station)

Swimming is not advisable in Berowra Creek at certain times as the water may be subject to variable pollution levels and algal blooms. Please refer to the Hornsby Shire Council website before swimming in Berowra Creek.

Safety alerts: Lower steps on Shark Island Wharf closed

The lower 4 steps of Shark Island Wharf are closed due to a safety hazard. Using these steps for berthing, drop-off and pick-up is prohibited. Access is only possible using the upper stairs.

Small vessels and boats may not be able to berth, particularly at low tide.

  • Garigal National Park is open 6am to 6.30pm (8pm during daylight savings) but may have to close at times due to poor weather or fire danger.

  • Park entry fees:

    $8 per vehicle per day applies at Davidson Park only. There are coin-operated or credit card pay and display machines. Bus: $4.40 per adult, $2.20 per child (per day).
