Do not touch baits or ejector devices as they contain poison. 1080 is lethal to dogs and cats and pet owners are reminded that domestic animals are not permitted in national parks.

Safety alerts: Lower steps on Shark Island Wharf closed

The lower 4 steps of Shark Island Wharf are closed due to a safety hazard. Using these steps for berthing, drop-off and pick-up is prohibited. Access is only possible using the upper stairs.

Small vessels and boats may not be able to berth, particularly at low tide.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service is doing 1080 ground baiting of foxes in Sydney Harbour National Park at Dobroyd Head.

This baiting program will run from Thursday 18 July 2019 until further notice. It will reduce the impacts of foxes on wildlife and threatened species in the park.

There will be 1080 baiting signs at the entrance to baiting areas. Don’t touch baits or ejector devices. Some baits may be buried. Penalties apply for non-compliance.

Domestic pets, including dogs, are not permitted in national parks or reserves. 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) baits are lethal to domestic dogs and cats. In the event of accidental poisoning, seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Please restrain assistance dogs to ensure they don’t enter the baiting areas. If assistance dogs are required in the baiting area, we suggest muzzling them.

Central Coast Council is redeveloping Dark Corner boat ramp and carpark at Patonga. During construction, access to Great North walk at this location in Brisbane Water National Park will be diverted to a pedestrian track along the beach. The project is expected to be finished by the end of August 2019.

Closed areas: North Head fox control operations

A fox control operation is in progress across North Head from Tuesday 8 May 2019 until further notice. Areas where trapping is underway will be signposted. Please keep to the centre of formed tracks.

Some areas may be closed temporarily. Signage will be in place around any closed areas.

Closed areas: Lady Bay Beach closed

Lady Bay Beach will be closed at times from May to August 2019. NSW National Parks will be repairing the sandstone retaining wall and replacing the staircase above the beach during this time.

To ensure visitor safety, the beach will be closed at times during repairs. Please don't enter closed areas during construction. We apologise for any inconvenience.

Alternative beach access is available nearby at Camp Cove, and there are clothing-optional beaches at Cobblers and Obelisk beaches in Mosman.

Closed areas: Casuarina Track closed between Boree Road and Davidson picnic area

Casuarina track between Carrol Creek and Davidson Picnic area, Forestville is closed indefinitely due to the removal of the stairway down to the picnic area after safety concerns. Lyrebird track is the recommended alternative access which connects to the Governor Philip Walk or Ferguson Street. Penalties apply for non-compliance. NSW Roads and Maritime Services are undertaking essential maintenance work on Mooney Mooney Creek Bridge, Old Pacific Highway. Users of the Great North Walk may experience temporary delays at this location between 7am and 6pm, Monday to Friday and between 8am and 1pm on Saturdays.

The anticipated completion date is August 2019.

Swimming is not advisable in Bewrowra Creek at certain times as the water may be subject to variable pollution levels. Please refer to the Hornsby Shire Council website before swimming in Berowra Creek.

Swimming at Fishponds is not advised at any time due to heavy water pollution

Closed areas: Collins Flat closed

Collins Flat Beach is currently unavailable for venue hire. This is due to the impact of high visitation on the critical penguin habitat at this location. This closure will be reviewed at the end of the breeding season in February 2019. Penalties apply for non-compliance.

Closed areas: Flat Rock track - partial closure

A section of Flat Rock track - from the Killarney Drive entrance to the Downpatrick Street entrance - is currently closed until further notice due to track safety issues where the track passes through private property near Killarney Point:

  • Walkers heading west should exit Flat Rock track at the eastern end of Killarney Drive and use Killarney Drive until you reach Downpatrick Street. Then walk down the street and re-enter Flat Rock track from the Downpatrick Street fire trail.
  • Walkers heading east should exit Flat Rock track at the Downpatrick Street fire trail and use Downpatrick Street, then Killarney Drive until you reach the end of Killarney Drive. Re-enter Flat Rock track from the Killarney Drive entrance.

From Monday 7 December 2015, some toilets within this park will be closed during the week, opening only on weekends and public holidays. Toilets affected are:

  • Blue Wren and Illoura (Areas 4-5)
  • Carters Creek (Area 9)
  • Scribbly Gums (Area 17)
  • Bakers Flat (Area 28)
  • Haynes Flat (Area 32)
