Closed areas: Gibbergaong track closed due to rock fall

Gibberagong track is closed due to a rock fall which poses a significant safety threat to walkers. The area between the mangrove walk, the rainforest walk in Bobbin Head and Gibberagong fire trial in Wahroonga is closed.

Closed areas: Closure of unathorised track near Ryland trail

NPWS will be closing and rehabilitating a section of an unauthorised track near Par 3 golf course in Terrey Hills. The track runs through an important Saving Our Species site, adjacent to Ryland trail in Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park.

The unauthorised track runs through very important habitat for the critically endangered greville caylei and Duffys Forest Endangered Ecological Community. As such, NPWS will be working to protect these and other species and asks the public to please avoid using the area.

NSW Roads and Maritime Services are undertaking essential maintenance work on Mooney Mooney Creek Bridge, Old Pacific Highway.

The anticipated completion date is late November 2018.

Users of the Great North Walk may experience temporary delays at this location between 7am and 6pm, Monday to Friday and between 8am and 1pm Saturday.

Fire bans: Fire ban - Dharug National Park

A solid fuel fire ban is in place in this park and remains in effect until Sunday 31 March 2019. The fire ban applies to all areas of the park except for Mill Creek picnic area and campground and Ten Mile Hollow campground. During park fire ban periods, all campfire and solid fuel (wood, heat beads, charcoal, briquettes, hexamite) barbecues and stoves are prohibited. Gas and electric barbecues and cookers are permitted as long as:

  • They are under direct control of an adult
  • The ground within 2m of the barbecue is cleared of all flammable materials
  • There is an adequate supply of water (minimum of a bucket)

If a Total Fire Ban is in place, please contact the local park office before using a gas and or electric barbecue or cooker.

Safety alerts: Restricted access on Quarry trail and Benowie walking track

Access restrictions and track closures are in place along trails that cross land managed by Hornsby Rifle Range as a Range Danger Area. The Hornsby Rifle Range Danger Area is closed to the public. 

These closures include:

  • An 800m section of Quarry fire trail, between Quarry Road, Dural and Tunks Ridge campground
  • An 800m section of Quarry fire trail, 300m in from the Stewart Avenue entrance at Hornsby
  • The section of track between Steele Bridge and Fishponds waterhole. Please use the Great North Walk detour through Hornsby Heights or access to Quarry Road, Dural is via Pogsons Link walking track.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service will be undertaking a wild dog and fox control program in Dharug National Park. The program will use M44 ejectors. 

M44 ejectors will be laid in Dharug National Park (including the Mill Creek area) from Monday 21 May to Tuesday 30 October 2018.

Warning:

  • Do not touch baits or ejector devices.
  • 1080 poison is lethal to dogs and cats.

Park visitors and neighbours are reminded that domestic animals are not permitted within national parks or nature reserves at any time. It is recommended that you tie your dog(s) up during this time if they like to roam. If you suspect that your domestic dog has been in the park and may have triggered a M44 ejector, get the animal to a vet immediately. Warning signs will be displayed to notify park visitors.

Parts of the western, southern and eastern lookouts along Fairfax walking track have been closed due to cliff instability. The temporary closure is for the safety of the public, and fencing and signage have been installed advising of the closures. These closures will remain in place until works are undertaken to make the area safe. Fairfax walking track and carparks are open.

Closed areas: Flat Rock track - partial closure

A section of Flat Rock track - from the Killarney Drive entrance to the Downpatrick Street entrance - is currently closed until further notice due to track safety issues where the track passes through private property near Killarney Point:

  • Walkers heading west should exit Flat Rock track at the eastern end of Killarney Drive and use Killarney Drive until you reach Downpatrick Street. Then walk down the street and re-enter Flat Rock track from the Downpatrick Street fire trail.
  • Walkers heading east should exit Flat Rock track at the Downpatrick Street fire trail and use Downpatrick Street, then Killarney Drive until you reach the end of Killarney Drive. Re-enter Flat Rock track from the Killarney Drive entrance.

From Monday 7 December 2015, some toilets within this park will be closed during the week, opening only on weekends and public holidays. Toilets affected are:

    • The entrance to Bobbin Head and Appletree Bay is closed from 8pm to 6am during daylight savings periods, and from 5.30pm to 6am the rest of the year.
    • Gates to West Head are closed from 8.30pm to 6am during daylight savings periods, and from 6pm to 6am the rest of the year.

    $12 per vehicle per day. Bus: $4.40 per adult, $2.20 per child (per day). There is no daily entry fee for teachers/educational supervisors (1 adult per 10 children).
