Elvina trail will be closed 7am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, from Wednesday 16 November to Friday 9 December 2022. The trail will be open after 5pm and on weekends. This is so upgrade works can be completed.

Closed areas: Basin campground access affected by trail upgrade works

The Basin trail will be closed 7am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, from Wednesday 16 November to Friday 9 December 2022. This is so upgrade works can be completed. During this time, visitors can only access the Basin campground and picnic area by ferry or private vessels.

The Basin trail will be open and the campground and picnic area accessible on weekends, and after 5pm on weekdays.

The following areas will also be closed 7am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, but will be open on weekends:

  • The Basin Aboriginal engraving site
  • The Mackerel trail

Safety alerts: Toxic algae bloom detected on NSW coastline

Toxic algae bloom has been detected on the NSW coastline. The NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI) advises people not to consume shellfish (including bivalves, crustaceans and gastropods) collected or caught in Broken Bay and Twofold Bay.

The toilet blocks at Orchard Park and Gibberagong will be closed for upgrades from Monday 7 March until December 2022 (weather dependant). There will be temporary toilets in place while the works are being carried out.

Closed areas: Berowra walking track closure

Berowra walking track, from Berowra to Apple Tree bay, including the Mount Ku-ring-gai access track, is closed until further notice.

There is a significant threat of rockfalls due to slope instability, caused by recent weather events. NPWS will further assess the track and carry out necessary repair works.

The program is continuous and ongoing between 1 August 2022 and 31 January 2023 in Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park. Don’t touch baits or ejector devices.

All baiting locations are identifiable by signs.

Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW national parks and reserves. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Fox baiting in these reserves is aimed at reducing their impact on threatened species.

Fort Denison will be closed until late 2023.

Conservation and upgrade works are currently underway. Key elements include the construction of a new accessible wharf and maintenance and upgrade to buildings and services. Fort Denison will be closed to visitors until these works have been complete.

Standard work hours during the construction phase will be between:

  • 7am and 6pm Monday to Friday
  • 8am and 1pm on Saturday

Noise monitoring stations will be set up in Kirribilli and Cremorne to check any over-water noise so that it does not exceed legal levels. It is not expected to be high.

Replacement of the Nielsen Park seawall commenced on Tuesday 1 March 2022. Shark Beach, the promenade and kiosk are closed, and event and accommodation bookings for Nielsen Park will be suspended during the construction period.

From Tuesday 1 March 2022, the following areas are closed:

  • Shark Beach and promenade
  • Nielsen Park kiosk, restaurant, Surf Club and Halbert Pavilion 
  • Steel Point Cottage and Gardners Cottage

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is undertaking fire trail maintenance works in Brisbane Water National Park from Monday 19 September 2022 for a period of up to 6 months (pending suitable weather conditions).

The maintenance work will repair damaged drainage assets and infrastructure that supports and is essential to the ongoing operation of the trails.

Trails will remain open for the duration of the construction works, with adequate signage and diversions (if required) in place.

Safety alerts: Ironbark Road access to picnic area - Last 850m 4WD only

The last 850m along Ironbark Road (Crown Road) to access Ironbark picnic area is currently limited to 4WD vehicles only. This section is not suitable to conventional 2WD vehicles due to a severely eroded hill along the Crown Road. Visitors to this section of the park travelling by conventional 2WD vehicles will have to walk the last 850 metres to access to the start of the park and Ironbark picnic area.

The section of Flat Rock track from the Killarney Drive entrance to the Downpatrick Street entrance, is permanently closed where the old track passes through private property near Killarney Point.

Please note:

  • Walkers heading west should exit Flat Rock track at the eastern end of Killarney Drive and use Killarney Drive until you reach Downpatrick Street. Then walk down the street and re-enter Flat Rock track from the Downpatrick Street fire trail.
  • Walkers heading east should exit Flat Rock track at the Downpatrick Street fire trail and use Downpatrick Street, then Killarney Drive until you reach the end of Killarney Drive. Re-enter Flat Rock track from the Killarney Drive entrance.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting an ongoing ground baiting program from Monday 9 May to Wednesday 9 November 2022 in the following parks:

  • Dharug National Park
  • Manobalai Nature Reserve
  • Parr State Conservation Area
  • Wollemi State Conservation Area
  • Yengo National Park  

An aerial baiting program will also be conducted in these parks from Monday 5 September to Friday 16 September 2022. 

The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes.

The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species, and to minimise impact of wild dogs on neighbouring stock.

Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. The following areas in the North Head scenic area will be closed while upgrades are underway:

  • Fairfax walking track, Fairfax Lookout, Fairfax carpark and bus stop are closed until December 2022 for the construction of new lookouts.
  • North Head Scenic Drive and loop road are open to vehicles.
  • The bus stop opposite the Bella Vista Café is open.

These closures may be extended without notice.
