Closed areas: Carpark at Galston Gorge closed
Transport for NSW is carrying out essential maintenance to improve safety and reliability on Galston Gorge.
Galston Road will be closed in both directions between Calderwood Road, Galston and Montview Parade in Hornsby Heights from 8pm Sunday 11 January to 11.59pm Sunday 22 February 2026.
The Great North Walk remains open but vehicle access to the carpark at Galston Gorge is unavailable.
Walkers cannot be dropped off or picked up from Galston Gorge carpark.
Walkers are to remain on the track and follow directions from workers when passing through this area.

Closed areas: Notice of pest control operation at North Head
Some areas in this park are closed from 6:00pm, Wednesday 11 February to 6:00am, Thursday 12 February 2026 for ground shooting for feral animal control. The closed areas are:
- North Head: Scenic Drive, NPWS North Fort carpark and lookouts, Fairfax walking track and lookouts.
- The Quarantine Station

Other planned events: 1080 pest management operation
NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service will be conducting a baiting program using manufactured baits and fresh baits containing 1080 poison (sodium fluroacetate) for the control of foxes. The program is continuous and ongoing between 1 February 2026 and 31 July 2026 in Lane Cove National Park.
All baiting locations are identifiable by signs. Don’t touch baits. Penalties apply for non-compliance.
Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW national parks and reserves. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Fire bans: Park fire ban
A park fire ban is in place in this park and remains in effect unless otherwise extended or removed. During park fire ban periods, all campfire and solid fuel (wood, heat beads, charcoal, briquettes, hexamine) barbecues and stoves are prohibited. Gas and electric barbecues and cookers are permitted as long as:
- They're under direct control of an adult
- The ground within 2m of the barbecue is cleared of all flammable materials
- There's an adequate supply of water (minimum of a bucket)
If a Total Fire Ban is in place, different rules apply. Contact the local park office before bringing a gas or electric barbecue or cooker.

Closed areas: Berowra walking track partial closure
Berowra walking track is partially closed from Apple Tree Bay to the Mount Ku-ring-gai access track until further notice. There continues to be a threat of rockfalls and foreshore slumps due to slope instability caused by previous weather events. NPWS is updating detailed assessments to undertake essential repair works.
Berowra walking track from Berowra Station to Mount Ku-ring-gai remains open.

There is no safe location to park a vehicle on the side of McCarrs Creek Road to reach Upper Gledhills Falls. For your own safety, climbing and abseiling are prohibited here. Please visit Duckholes picnic area instead.

Safety alerts: Swimming safety in Berowra Valley National Park
Swimming is not advisable in Berowra Creek at certain times as the water may be subject to variable pollution levels and algal blooms. Please refer to the Hornsby Shire Council website before swimming in Berowra Creek. Alternatively you can call the Hornsby Council 24 hour information line on 9847 6666 or the Algal information line on 1800 999 457.
Swimming at Fishponds is not advised at any time due to heavy water pollution.
