Closed areas: Walking tracks closed for upgrades

Various sections along the walking tracks in Malabar Headland National Park are closed during May to October 2021 for upgrades:

  • Access from the south is open to Boora Point only
  • Access from the north is closed
  • The Western Escarpment remains open

Closed areas: Area closures for rifle range operations

All shooting activities have been suspended until Friday 27 August 2021.

The eastern section of Malabar Headland National Park will be closed for rifle range operations on the following days:

  • Saturday 28 August 2021
  • Wednesday 15 September to Sunday 19 September 2021

Further closures may occur with little or no notice. 

Do not enter the eastern section of the park (including Boora Point walking track) when:

  • Red flags are flying above the range
  • There are warning signs at the park's entry points (South Maroubra Beach and Fishermans Road carpark)
  • Park entry gates are closed

The western section of the park (Western Escarpment walking track) remains open.

Closed areas: Closed areas for pest animal management program

Some areas of Royal National Park will be closed to the public between sunset and sunrise to enable pest animal management programs to be carried out.

These closures will be signposted at the entry points to the closed areas.

The affected areas include:

  • Audley Precinct
  • Asset protection zones adjacent to Maianbar, Bundeena and East Heathcote
  • Wattamolla and Garie picnic areas
  • North Era campground
  • Garrawarra Farm
  • Lady Carrington Drive

Visitors who have approved bookings to camp can still access their campsites during these times.

Closed areas: Wattamolla lower loop carpark and picnic area closed

The Lower Loop carpark and picnic area are closed for upgrades until October 2021. Access through Wattamolla for the Royal Coast track will be available and signposted. Access to the beach, amenities building, upper carpark areas and Providential Point will remain open.

Large vehicles and buses over 8.8 metres cannot access Wattamolla. Buses should not enter Wattamolla Road from Sir Bertram Stevens Drive. There is no safe area to park or manoeuvre at Wattamolla or along Wattamolla Road. All other vehicles can enter Wattamolla and park in carparks numbers 2 to 5 (parking is limited during peak periods).

Closed areas: Bonnie Vale coastal repairs

Coastal protection works are underway to the western section of the Bonnie Vale picnic area (near campground entrance). The walking track between Maianbar and Bonnie Vale is open to pedestrians. Access to Deeban Spit will be impacted. Please stay on the track and avoid the fenced work area.

The exhibition area of Kamay Botany National Park Visitor Centre is closed to ensure COVID-19 safety is appropriately managed for visitors. Please check the website for updated information. 

You can still access Kurnell Visitor Centre for information, retail purchases and park pass sales. Signage is in place around the closed areas inside the building.

Closed areas: Bonnie Vale campground

Bonnie Vale campground is currently closed to allow for the remediation of asbestos containing material surfacing onsite. It will remain closed until further notice.

  • in the Kurnell area of Kamay Botany Bay National Park in the Sydney and surrounds region
  • 7am–7.30pm August to May. 7am–5.30pm June to July.

    Areas may have to close at times due to poor weather or fire danger.

  • Park entry fees:

    $8 per vehicle per day applies in the Kurnell area only. The park has coin-operated pay and display machines - please bring correct coins. The park also has credit card accepting payment facilities.
