Other planned events: 1080 fox baiting program underway

A 1080 fox baiting program is underway at Towra Point Nature Reserve, and will finish on Saturday 31 March 2019.

The program is part of the NPWS FoxTap program, and is designed to control foxes to assist in recovery of little terns and pied oystercatchers. 

1080 poison can affect non-target species like domestic dogs and cats.

Closed areas: Closed areas due to helicopter operations

Helicopter operations are happening along The Coast track, between Eagle Rock and Thelma Head, on Wednesday 12 December 2018 from 8.30am to 5pm.

The affected areas include:

  • Curra Moors loop track
  • Garie Beach picnic area
  • North Era campground
  • Sections of The Coast track between Eagle Rock and Thelma Head

All areas will remain open, but if you're visiting these locations please expect short delays. You'll be guided through the affected areas of the track by NPWS staff. Please follow their instructions.

Other planned events: Herbicide application - aquatic weeds

A weed spraying operation will be undertaken on the Hacking River in Audley NSW upstream of Audley weir to Jesey Springs. The operation is targeting Senegal tea and Ludwigia weeds with herbicides metsulfuron-methyl and glyphosate. Herbicide application for yellow water poppy will also be undertaken using flumioxazin. Closed areas: Bonnie Vale campground

The Bonnie Vale picnic area precinct  is OPEN.

The Bonnie Vale boat ramp is OPEN.

Bonnie Vale Campground is currently closed to allow for the remediation of asbestos containing material surfacing onsite. It will remain closed until further notice.

Closed areas: Walking tracks upgrade

Access to walking tracks between Cape Banks and Henry Head will be affected from September 2018 to January 2019 due to track upgrades.

  • Cape Banks walking track is open, but there is no access to Henry Head. Expect some delays due to construction.
  • The track from Cape Banks to Henry Head is closed.
  • Henry Head walking track is open to Cruwee Beach. The track is closed from Cruwee Beach to Cape Banks.

Safety alerts: Malabar Headland Rifle Range operation schedule

1. For public safety, the eastern section of Malabar Headland National Park is closed during ANZAC Rifle Range operations.

These closures may occur with little or no notice. 

2. Do not enter the eastern section of the park (including Boora Point walking track) when:

  • Red flags are flying above the range
  • There are warning signs at the park's entry points (South Maroubra Beach and Fishermans Road carpark)
  • Park entry gates are closed.

3. When is the eastern section of the park closed?

  • Every Saturday 
  • Every 1st Sunday of the month
  • Every 3rd Sunday of the month
  • Wednesday 12 December 2018.

These closures apply to the eastern section of the park only, including Boora Point walking track.

They do not apply to the western section of the park, including Western Escarpment walking track.

The range operation schedule is provided by the NSW Rifle Association (the range authority).

Safety alerts: Audley precinct in wet weather

Access across the Audley Weir may be closed due to river flooding during times of wet weather. During wet weather, NPWS advise park visitors to visit Live Traffic NSW to ascertain the status of the Weir crossing before commencing their travel to the park. During times of closure, access to Bundeena, Maianbar residential areas, Royal National Park Visitor Centre, including the Audley Dance hall and cafe, is via McKell Ave Waterfall.

Closed areas: Burrawang walking track - works

On Monday 3 December 2018, work will begin on building a sand-filled container revetment wall in the Meeting place precinct of Kamay Botany Bay National Park. At times, this may temporarily prevent access along the coastal section of Burrawang walking track and Monument track. The job is expected to be completed by Friday 21 December 2018. For further information, please contact the Kurnell Visitor Centre on 02 9668 2010.
