Hazard reduction burns: Waterfall West Darangan Hazard Reduction

There is a fire in this park called Waterfall West Darangan Hazard Reduction. Refer to the Rural Fire Service for latest information. Do not enter any closed area or area with fire. Closed areas: Areas closed for hazard reduction burn

Some areas in Heathcote National Park will be closed from Friday 17 May to Monday 20 May 2019. This is because NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service is undertaking a hazard reduction burn at Waterfall. This closure may be extended and any extension will be posted as soon as possible. The closed areas are:

  • Lake Talooma trail and Lake Talooma
  • Kingfisher Pool track and campground
  • Bullawarring track
  • Mooray track
  • 108 and Powerline East fire trail

You will only be able to access Camp Coutts Scout camp by prior application through Scouts NSW.

1080 fox baiting program in the Kangaroo Valley, Budgong and Illaroo from Friday 14 December 2018 through to Friday 14 June 2019.

Baits have been placed on private properties, council reserves, NPWS estate, Water NSW estate and vacant Crown land. Areas with 1080 baits are sign-posted with dates and information about the baiting methods. Baits are buried and above ground ejector devices found at bait station locations.

  • Do not touch bait or ejector devices.
  • Dog owners should not allow their dogs to wander in these areas because your dog could be poisoned.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service is conducting the program in these areas to protect the endangered brush-tailed rock-wallaby. Visit the Friends of the Brush-tailed Rock-wallaby website to find out more about them.

A 1080 ground baiting and ejector program targeting foxes is underway in Eurobodalla National Park, Mimosa Rocks National Park, Bournda National Park and nature reserve, Gulaga National Park, Ben Boyd National Park and South East Forest National Park. The program is ongoing throughout the entire year. Visitors are reminded that 1080 is harmful to domestic animals. There are 1080 warning signs at entrances and exits throughout the reserve areas. For further information call the NPWS Merimbula area office on 02 6495 5000.

A 1080 fox baiting program is underway at Towra Point Nature Reserve, and will finish on Saturday 31 March 2019.

The program is part of the NPWS FoxTap program, and is designed to control foxes to assist in recovery of little terns and pied oystercatchers. 

1080 poison can affect non-target species like domestic dogs and cats.

Safety alerts: Audley precinct in wet weather

Access across the Audley Weir may be closed due to river flooding during times of wet weather. During wet weather, NPWS advise park visitors to visit Live Traffic NSW to ascertain the status of the Weir crossing before commencing their travel to the park. During times of closure, access to Bundeena, Maianbar residential areas, Royal National Park Visitor Centre, including the Audley Dance hall and cafe, is via McKell Ave Waterfall.

  • Georges River National Park is open from 6am to 7.30pm during daylight savings (6am – ­6.30pm at other times) but may have to close at times due to poor weather or fire danger.

    $8 per vehicle per day. The park has coin-operated pay and display machines at the gate. Please bring correct coins, as no change is given.
