Closed areas: Royal Coast track partial closure

Parts of Royal Coast track will be closed from 6am Thursday 22 April to midnight Saturday 24 April 2021 for a large scale hazard reduction burn between Wattamolla and Marley.

The closed areas are:

  • The section of Royal Coast track between Marley North Headland and Garie Beach North Headland
  • Big Marley and Little Marley Beach
  • Marley track including Deer Pool
  • Little Marley fire trail
  • Wattamolla picnic area, Beach and Lagoon
  • Wattamolla Road
  • Curra Moors trail and Curra Moors track
  • Curracurrang, Curracurrong and Eagle Rock

Please also note:

  • Garie Beach and picnic area will remain open, however there is no walking track access north, along Royal Coast track from Garie Beach.
  • There will be stop/slow traffic control on Sir Bertram Stevens Drive between Bundeena Drive and Wattamolla Road whilst fire crews are working
  • There will be stop/slow traffic control on Bundeena Drive between the intersection with Sir Bertram Stevens Drive and Little Marley fire trail whilst fire crews are working
  • Signs will be in place around closed areas
  • You can still access Wedding Cake Rock from Bundeena but cannot walk further south than Marley Headland
  • You can still access Figure Eight Pools from Otford but cannot continue north past Garie Beach
  • If you plan on camping at North Era or want to walk on the Royal Coast track during this time, please be aware of other coast track closures at Burning Palms (see separate alert on this page).

These closures may be extended if the track cannot be safely reopened on Sunday 25 April 2021. Please check this page closer to the date for up-to-date information on closed areas.

Closed areas: Partial closure for hazard reduction burn

Parts of Illawarra Escarpment State Conservation Area (IESCA) will be closed from 7am Thursday 22 April to 4pm Monday 26 April 2021 for a hazard reduction burn at Coalcliff Dam.

The closed areas are:

  • northern section of IESCA from the Boomerang Golf course in the south
  • the Tops Conference Centre in the North and Princess Highway to the west
  • Wodi Wodi track
  • All areas in between

The closed areas are:

  • Upper Escarpment fire trail between Bulli Pass and Bellambi Creek
  • All areas around Regent Mt

Closed areas: Yeramba Lagoon loop track partially closed

Yeramba Lagoon loop walking track in Georges River National Park is closed from behind Henry Lawson Drive down to the lagoon.

The pedestrian bridge over the lagoon runout channel has been removed while the weir is being worked on. This section of track is impassable and has been closed off.

1. For public safety, the eastern section of Malabar Headland National Park is closed during ANZAC Rifle Range operations.

These closures may occur with little or no notice.

2. When is the eastern section of the park closed?

  • Every Saturday from 7.30am
  • Every 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month
  • Anzac Day Sunday 25 April 2021 - additional closure

3. Do not enter the eastern section of the park (including Boora Point walking track) when:

  • Red flags are flying above the range
  • There are warning signs at the park's entry points (South Maroubra Beach and Fishermans Road carpark).
  • Park entry gates are closed

These closures apply to the eastern section of the park only (Boora Point walking track).

The western section of the park (Western Escarpment walking track) remains open.

The range operation schedule is provided by the NSW Rifle Association.

Closed areas: The Coast track at Burning Palms - major upgrade

The Coast track at Burning Palms will be subject to closures due to a major upgrade taking place from Monday 22 March to 30 June 2021.

The track will be closed every Monday (8am) to Thursday (4pm) during the closure period. The track will remain open every Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

These works will affect access to:

  • Figure 8 Pools
  • Palm Jungle loop track
  • The Coast track between Burning Palms and Otford lookout

Closed areas: Audley boatshed - conservation and repair works

The Audley Boatshed will be undergoing important conservation and repair works. Boat hire is suspended and the boatshed, its slipway and a part of the carpark to the west will be closed during this period. Allambie Flat picnic area and carpark remains open. NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service will be conducting a baiting program using manufactured baits, fresh baits and Canid Pest Ejectors (CPEs) containing 1080 poison (sodium fluoroacetate) for the control of foxes. The program is continuous and ongoing between Monday 1 February and Saturday 31 July 2021 in Sydney Harbour National Park (Chowder Bay, Dobroyd, Bradleys, Georges, Middle and North Headlands (North Head includes the adjoining land of Sydney Harbour Federation Trust, Australian Institute of Police Management, and Quarantine Station)). Don’t touch baits or ejector devices. Penalties apply for non-compliance.

All baiting locations are identifiable by signs.

Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW national parks and reserves. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Fox baiting in this reserves is aimed at reducing their impact on threatened species.

Safety alerts: Protect your picnic - native birds may steal your food

Birds at Nielsen Park are attempting to steal food from visitors' picnics and tables due to unauthorised feeding of local native birds. To try and reduce this unwanted behaviour, NPWS is asking visitors to not actively feed any wildlife and to please bring suitable methods to cover your food. These include storage containers with sealed lids or an umbrella to cover your picnic to reduce food visibility and access.

Please note, it is illegal to feed wildlife in a national park. NPWS officers are monitoring the area and fines apply if visitors are seen actively feeding birds and promoting this unwanted behaviour.

Transport for New South Wales are currently undertaking land-based investigations in support of the reinstatement of the ferry wharves at La Perouse and Kurnell within Kamay Botany Bay National Park.

Some parts of North Head in Sydney Harbour National Park are closed due to fire damage. The closed areas include:

  • North Head Scenic Drive, after the carparks opposite Bella Vista Cafe and before the North Head Scenic Drive loop road.
  • Bluefish Drive past the Gunner Road Car Park entrance
  • Fairfax walk and lookout
  • All tracks and trails south of Bluefish Drive and along North Head Scenic Drive past the Q Station roundabout.

Open areas include:

  • Q Station
  • The track between Shelly Beach and Bluefish Drive
  • North Head Scenic Drive until just beyond the Bella Vista Cafe
  • Collins Flat Beach
  • Collins Beach Road

Safety alerts: Diversion on Mount Keira Ring track

The staircase on the western side of Mount Keira Road at the junction of Mount Keira Road and Queen Elizabeth Drive has been closed off for repairs. Please follow the relevant signage for a slight detour to the ring track at the crossing of Queen Elizabeth Drive.

If completing the loop in a clockwise direction: head north uphill of the closed staircase for roughly 50m until you come to an opening by the road. Take care crossing the road at this point and re-join the track at the usual entry point to the eastern side of the loop.

If completing the loop in an anticlockwise direction: when you get to Queen Elizabeth Drive crossing head north for roughly 50m from the point of entry to the western side of the loop. Re-join the track at this point.

    $12 per vehicle per day. Seasonal ticket booths at Wattamolla and Garie Beach - cash and credit card facilities available. Please bring correct change. There's also coin and card operated pay and display machines to buy day passes.

    Vehicles over 8 seats: $4.40 per adult, $2.20 per child (per day). Students on educational programs: $1.10 per student. Teachers/educational supervisors: free (1 adult per 10 students).
