Closed areas: Track and Trail closures due to Total Fire Ban Declaration

Due to the declaration of a Total Fire Ban in the Greater Sydney and Illawarra Local Government Areas, walking tracks and vehicle trails in this National Park are closed to public access commencing at midnight on 28 November 2025.

Affected areas include:

  • The Royal Coast Track
  • Garawarra Farm
  • All single-track mountain bike trails
  • Every walking track in Royal National Park, Heathcote National Park, Garawarra SCA and Georges River National Park
  • All fire trails and vehicle trails in Royal National Park, Heathcote National Park, Garawarra SCA and Georges River National Park

Major visitor precincts (Burrawang Reach, Fitzpatrick Park, Cattle Duffers Flat, Wattamolla, Bonnie Vale, Garie and Audley) are open to visitors, as are major public roads though Royal National Park. The Audley Cafe is open.

Closed areas: Total Fire Ban - All tracks and trails closed – Saturday 29 & Sunday 30 November 2025

All tracks and trails in the following parks are closed on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 November due to a Total Fire Ban and elevated Fire Danger Rating:

  • Lane Cove National Park
  • Berowra Valley National Park
  • Berowra Valley Regional Park
  • Marramarra National Park
  • Wallumatta Nature Reserve
  • Dalrymple Hay Nature Reserve
  • Dural Nature Reserve

Campgrounds in Berowra Valley National Park and Marramarra National Park are also closed, including:

  • Tunks Ridge campground
  • Marramarra Creek campground
  • Orchard campground
  • Gentleman's Halt campground

Picnic areas and boat ramps will remain open.

Parkview to Transgrid & Burns Rd to Henry Lawson Vehicle Trails at Picnic Point in Georges River National Park will be closed on weekdays between 26th November and 19th December 2025 due to maintenance works.

Closed areas: Pest control operation

There will be closures in Lane Cove National Park for pest control operations targeting wild rabbits using firearms at the following times:

  • 10pm Thursday 4 December to 2am Friday 5 December 2025 
  • 10pm Thursday 11 December to 2am Friday 12 December 2025

If operations are impacted by wet weather, they will continue from 10pm Monday 15 December to 2am Tuesday 16 December 2025.

The following areas will be closed: 

  • All picnic areas and walking tracks along Max Allen Drive.
  • The Great North Walk between Lady Game Drive and Allen Park.
  • All picnic areas along Riverside Drive (between Plassey Road and Fullers Bridge).
  • Riverside Walking Track between Deburghs Entrance Station and Lane Cove River Weir.
  • Riverside Drive Between Lane Cove Road and Lane Cove River Weir.

Do not enter the park under any circumstances. Signs will be placed at all entrances during the closure period.

Closed areas: Swimming enclosure damaged, Nielsen Park

The swimming enclosure at Nielsen Park was damaged by large waves in August 2025. Nielsen Park remains open to visitors. However, be aware before swimming at Shark Beach, the damaged swimming enclosure nets do not provide a total barrier between sharks and swimmers.

A new steel support pile will be installed in the week commencing 8th December 2025. Once installed, the enclosure’s steel cable and netting panels will be re-attached.

Other planned events: Cawleys Bridge works

Please be advised that Transport for NSW will be undertaking bridge decking maintenance and upgrades to Cawleys Bridge between 29th September 2025 and February 2026.

Cawleys bridge connects Cawleys Road between Heathcote National Park and Garawarra State Conservation Area.

Works will be intermittent during this time.

Vehicle and public access will remain largely unaffected, with select days, being restricted access. Please follow the signs and direction of staff and contractors onsite.

Some toilets within this park will be closed during the week, opening only on weekends, public holidays and during school holidays. The closed toilets are at:

  • Carters Creek (Area 9)
  • Scribbly Gums (Area 17)
  • Haynes Flat (Area 32)

This does not apply to bookings. Where there are bookings, toilets will be open.

Closed areas: Areas closed for deer control program

Some areas in Royal National Park are closed to the public between sunset and sunrise from Monday to Thursday (excluding school holidays) from Monday 7 July 2025 to Friday 19 December 2025 to enable a deer control operation to be carried out.

The closed areas include:

  • All picnic areas in the Audley Precinct
  • Asset protection zones adjacent to Maianbar, Bundeena and East Heathcote.
  • Wattamolla and Garie picnic areas
  • North Era campground and coastal areas between Garie Beach and Figure 8 Pools
  • Garrawarra Farm
  • Lady Carrington Drive
  • Bonnie Vale campground and Bonnie Vale picnic area.

These closures will be signposted at the entry points to the closed areas. If you have a campground booking you can still access campgrounds during these times.

Safety alerts: Landslide on Auxillary trail- Heathcote National Park

A landslip occurred on an auxillary trail (near Dingo tunnel) off Lower pipeline fire trail in April 2024. Pedestrians and Cyclists are not permitted to pass the landslip.

Authorised Vehicles are not permitted to drive the auxillary trial until further notice.

There are no walking tracks or visitors facilities in this area.
