Closed areas: Walking track and campground closures
Due to essential capital upgrades following the 2019/2020 bushfires, the Castle Walking Track in Morton National Park will be closed from 1 September 2025 to 30 April 2026.
This closure affects the following areas:
- Castle Walking Track and Car Park
- Cooyoyo Campgrounds
- Long Gully Campgrounds and Picnic Area
- Byangee Walls Walking Track
Although Long Gully Campgrounds and Byangee Walls Walking Track are not part of the upgrade works, they will remain closed for the duration of the project. These areas fall within the broader construction footprint, and access restrictions are in place to ensure public safety during the works.
The walking track upgrade works will include like-for-like infrastructure replacement, improved drainage, and erosion and sediment control measures to ensure long-term sustainability and visitor safety.
Penalties apply for non-compliance. For more information, contact the local NPWS office.
