Fire bans: Park fire ban

A park fire ban is in place in this park and remains in effect unless otherwise extended or removed. During park fire ban periods, all campfire and solid fuel (wood, heat beads, charcoal, briquettes, hexamine) barbecues and stoves are prohibited. Gas and electric barbecues and cookers are permitted as long as:

  • They're under direct control of an adult
  • The ground within 2m of the barbecue is cleared of all flammable materials
  • There's an adequate supply of water (minimum of a bucket)

If a Total Fire Ban is in place, please contact the local park office before using a gas and or electric barbecue or cooker.

Closed areas: Access to base of Belmore Falls prohibited

All access to the base of Belmore Falls from Hindmarsh and Belmore Falls lookout and picnic area is permanently closed due to safety risks. Access is also closed from the causeway to the top of the falls. These access points are prohibited to visitors and penalties apply for non-compliance. The program will be underway in the western sections of Morton and Deua national parks. 1080 meat baits will be used for the program. A reminder that domestic pets, including dogs, are not permitted in national parks or reserves.

  • Dog owners should not allow their dogs to wander in these areas because 1080 is poisonous to domestic animals, like dogs

Domestic pets, including dogs, are not permitted in national parks or reserves.

NSW National Parks is conducting this program to protect the endangered brush-tailed rock-wallaby.

Closed areas: No Access to Macquarie Rivulet via top of Macquarie Pass

You can't access Macquarie Rivulet from the top of Macquarie Pass. If you access the rivulet from the top of the escarpment, you will be trespassing on private property and this action may result in police involvement.

Closed areas: Part of Budderoo National Park closed - pest control program underway

A small block of Budderoo National Park (Lot 7006 DP 1002504) is closed from Monday 25 March to Sunday 30 December 2019. NSW National Parks will be running a feral goat pest control program to protect threatened plant species on the site. The block is only accessible from Parishs Road, Upper Kangaroo River.

For safety reasons, no visitors will be allowed to enter, remain or pass through this block. All other parts of Budderoo National Park remain unaffected by this work.

NSW National Parks will be undertaking wild dog baiting programs using 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) baits from Monday 27 May to Monday 30 September 2019. These programs will run in Morton National Park in the Kingiman, Croobyar, 12 Mile Road and Endrick River/Nerriga sections.

This baiting program is in accordance with the 1080 Wild Dog Baiting provisions in the Pesticide Control (1080 Liquid Concentrate and Bait Products) Order 2017.

Precautions will be taken to minimise the risk to domestic pets and other non-target species. Please remember, it is an offence under the National Parks and Wildlife Act to allow domestic animals into national parks and nature reserves. It is also an offence to interfere with the wild dog control program.

There will be 1080 baiting notification signs at track heads in each area advising the start and finish dates of the baiting program.

Tooth's walking track is closed between the base of Lower Fairy Bower Falls and where it intersects with Bundanoon Creek walking track. This is due to a landslide incident.

Closed areas: Minnamurra Rainforest Centre closed for refurbishment

Minnamurra Rainforest Centre, including the gift shop and visitor centre, will be closed until further notice. This is due to the construction of a new visitor centre.

Our staff are now located at the nearby Lyrebird Cafe. You can still visit the area, enjoy the available walks and use the picnic area and barbecues by the river.

There are still some sections on the boardwalks that are closed while they are being upgraded.

Safety alerts: Kingiman fire rehabilitation work - road closures

There will be heavy machinery works along roads in the Mount Kingiman, Croobyar area in Morton National Park, to repair damage caused by the Kingiman fire in August 2018. Some roads may be temporarily closed during the works, including:

  • Kingiman Road
  • Elephant Road
  • Carriages Road/Northern Buffer trail

The Minnamurra Rainforest Loop walk will be partially closed due to construction work from Tuesday 19 February 2019. The walk will be closed from the second bridge to the outdoor classroom. The Falls walk will remain open.

There may be minor temporary disruptions during 2019 as work continues with some partial closures in place. NPWS will be conducting a wild dog control program from October 2017 to October 2018 for wild dogs. The program will include trapping and the use of 1080  (sodium fluoroacetate) poison baits. The program will be undertaken in the Sassafras-Tolwong-Touga area of Morton National Park. Visitors are advised not to touch traps or baits. Please be aware that domestic pets could be affected as 1080 poison is lethal to dogs and cats. Pet owners and landowners must ensure their pets and working dogs do not enter baited reserves.   • Morton National Park is always open but may have to close at times due to poor weather or fire danger.

    Parts of the south-eastern area of this park were once used for military training and may contain unexploded artillery shells. These areas have restrictions in place for your safety.

  • Park entry fees: 

    Fitzroy Falls: $4 per vehicle per day. Bundanoon area: $8 per vehicle per day. The park has coin-operated pay and display machines - please bring correct coins.
