NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service is conducting a continual and ongoing 1080 ground baiting program for the control of foxes from Thursday 17 July 2025 to Friday 16 January 2026

The program targets target foxes in the Carrington Falls, Budderoo Plateau, Knights Hill and Barren Grounds areas. Bait stations are located on NPWS estate and Crown road reserves with permissions. Both buried baits and Canid Pest Ejectors are used in this program.

The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, particularly the threatened species within these areas.

1080 baiting signs are at all entries to the baiting location. Don’t touch baits or ejector devices. 

Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Closed areas: Parts of Blue Mountains National Park closed

Many roads, fire trails and walking tracks in Blue Mountains National Park are closed due to infrastructure repairs, upgrades or damage caused by wet weather including subsidence, rockfalls, landslides and fallen trees.

The following roads/tracks/sections are closed:

Katoomba and Leura

  • Honeymoon Bridge is closed due to rockfall hazards. (Visible bridge from Echo Point. Side route off Three Sisters Track and Giant Stairs.)
  • Part of Prince Henry Cliff Walk (& Grand Cliff Top Walk) is closed between Leura Cascades and Kiah Lookout. Short detour via Cliff Drive.
  • Parts of Federal Pass & Dardanelles Pass are closed Tues-Fri. There is no valley access from Giant Stairs to Leura Forest on these days.

  • Grand Cliff Top Walk will have a stop/go closure implemented between Lillians Bridge and Fairmont Resort on 18 November for a helicopter operation. Walkers should expect short delays.  
  • Amphitheatre Track is closed due to a landslide & upgrade works. Access to valley is via Fern Bower. 
  • Katoomba Falls Round walk (west) is closed for track upgrade works from Wednesday 5 November to Wednesday 31 December 2025. Scenic World Valley Stations and Federal Pass can be accessed via Furber steps.
  • Leura Cascades parking area and toilets are closed. Visit the Blue Mountains City Council website for information.
  • Glenraphael Drive (Narrow Neck fire trail) is closed to vehicles near Cliff Drive due to a road subsidence. Walkers and cyclists are permitted.
  • Part of Lindeman Pass is closed due to a major landslide below Gladstone lookout. Roberts Pass is closed due to rockfall and landslide hazards.
  • Six Foot track is affected by closures at Jenolan Caves and between Katoomba (Explorer's Tree) to Alum Creek for aerial pest control works (Tuesday 25 to Thursday 27 November 2025)
  • Kedumba Valley Road is closed from Kedumba Campground through to Lake Burragorang from Monday 17 November to Monday 12 December 2025. Kedumba Valley Campground will remain open.
  • Mt Hay Fire Trail will be closed to vehicles and pedestrians for road maintenance from Monday 1 December to Friday 12 December. Pedestrian access will be permitted on the weekend (Saturday 6 December & Sunday 7 December).

Wentworth Falls and Woodford  

  • Part of National Pass (west of Wentworth Falls middle crossing) is closed due to a major landslide and ongoing risks.
  • Wentworth Pass and Slack Stairs are closed due to elevated boardwalk repairs. There is no access to Roberts Pass, Hippocrene or Vera Falls routes. 
  • Valley of the Waters is closed below Silvia Falls due rockfall hazards. There is no access to Roberts Pass, Hippocrene or Vera Falls.

Blackheath, Mount Victoria, Megalong Valley and Bells Line of Road 

  • Pulpit Rock Reserve, lookouts and part of the walking track are closed. For more information visit the Blue Mountains City Council website. Pulpit Rock walking track from Popes Glen is open as far as the NPWS boundary (as shown on Google maps).
  • Govetts descent and parts of Rodriguez Pass are closed due to rockfalls and landslides. Valley access from Blackheath is via Horse Track.
  • Dunphys campground and Green Gully Road are closed for maintenance and upgrades from Monday 13 October to Monday 22 December. No pedestrian or vehicle access during this time. Hiking access to the Wild Dog Mountains and Cox's River corridor is available from the Narrowneck Plateau.
  • Point Pilcher Road will be closed to vehicles and pedestrians from Monday 8 December to Friday 19 December for road maintenance. Pedestrian access will be permitted on the weekend (Saturday 13 December & Sunday 14 December).
  • Asgard Swamp Trail will be closed to pedestrians and cyclists from Monday 8 December to Sunday 14 December for road maintenance. 
  • Victoria Falls Road will be closed to vehicles and pedestrians from Monday 15 December for 1-2 weeks for road maintenance. Pedestrian access will be permitted on the weekend (Saturday 20 December & Sunday 21 December).

Adventure recreation, canyons, abseiling and rock climbing

Some adventure recreation areas and routes may be closed where the access or exit road/track is mentioned above.

Closed areas: Sublime Point Walking Track closed

The Sublime Point Walking Track is closed for major upgrades from Monday 18 August 2025 to Monday 31 August 2026.

Alternative walking tracks include the Lookout Track to Panorama House, Wodi Wodi Track, Gibson Walking Track, the Woodward Loop Track and the Mount Keira Ring Track.

The upgrade is supported by the NSW and Australian Government’s Infrastructure Betterment Fund to repair and rebuild public assets directly impacted by natural disasters since 2019.

Safety alerts: Bomaderry Creek Regional Park weir crossing - take care

Please be aware the weir crossing stepping stones were impacted by a recent heavy rainfall event. A number of the stepping stones were dislodged or washed down river.

Walkers should take care when using the weir crossing. Walkers should not use the weir crossing if water levels are high at the crossing.

Closed areas: Tallowa Dam Road Closed

The end of Tallowa Dam Road in Morton National Park is currently closed due to cracks which have developed after multiple heavy rain events, creating the potential for a landslide. The closure is located approximately 1.5km east of Tallowa Dam crest.

There is no public access to Tallowa Dam. Paddlers must exit the lake at Beehive Point or Bendeela.

The road will be closed until further notice, to allow for essential geotechnical investigation work. This work is being managed by National Parks and Wildlife Service and we will update this message when we have more information.

Other planned events: Access to Kembla mountain bike trails during Harry Graham Drive upgrade

Harry Graham Drive will be partially closed in both directions between Wollongong Motorcycle Club and Kembla Village until mid-late 2026 (weather permitting), to allow Wollongong City Council to carry out essential road maintenance and upgrades.

During this time, the Kembla mountain bike trails can be accessed as follows:

1. From Mount Keira: The main trail car park is open and signposted off Harry Graham Drive. This is the only access point for beginner trails during the roadworks. Visitors should expect some traffic delays.

2. From Kembla Heights: Harry Graham Drive is temporarily closed to all traffic from Kembla Heights. Access is available for blue and black trails only, and a small carpark is

available. For safety and to avoid congestion, riders are asked not to park on the roadside. Beginner trails will be temporarily inaccessible from Kembla Heights during the roadworks. For access to green runs, please use the main trail carpark via Mount Keira Road.

Due to essential capital upgrades following the 2019/2020 bushfires, the Castle Walking Track in Morton National Park will be closed from 1 September 2025 to 30 April 2026.

The operation will use a Felixer containing 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of feral cats, and approved meat baits, meat bait products, and Canid Pest Ejectors (CPE) for the control of foxes and wild dogs.

The program will be conducted in Nattai National Park.

The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species.

Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service is disposing of used 1080 baits and baiting products in an approved disposal pit on NPWS National Parks land within the Fitzroy Falls area.

The burial of used baits and products will occur from Thursday 17 July 2025 to Friday 16 January 2026. All bait material in the pit will be buried under at least 500mm of soil, and clear of waterways so as not to cause pollution of waterways. This is in accordance with the current Pesticide Control Order (1080 bait products).

There will be 1080 baiting signs at the entrance to the disposal pit site.

1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) is lethal to pets (including domestic dogs and cats) and working dogs. In the event of accidental poisoning, seek immediate veterinary assistance. Domestic pets, including dogs and cats, are not permitted in national parks or reserves.

  • Budderoo National Park is always open but may have to close at times due to poor weather or fire danger. The park gates at Minnamurra Rainforest Centre open at 9am and close at 5pm every day.

  • Park entry fees:

    $12 per vehicle per day only in the Minnamurra Rainforest area. Bus or taxi: $4.40 per adult and $2.20 per child.
