NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service is conducting a continual and ongoing 1080 ground baiting program for the control of foxes from Monday 13 July 2026 to Wednesday 13 January 2027.
The program targets target foxes in the Carrington Falls, Budderoo Plateau, Knights Hill and Barren Grounds areas. Bait stations are located on NPWS estate and Crown road reserves with permissions. Both buried baits and Canid Pest Ejectors are used in this program.
The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, particularly the threatened species within these areas.
1080 baiting signs are at all entries to the baiting location. Don’t touch baits or ejector devices.
Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Closed areas: Parts of Blue Mountains National Park closed
Many roads, fire trails and walking tracks in Blue Mountains National Park are closed due to infrastructure repairs, upgrades or damage caused by wet weather including subsidence, rockfalls, landslides and fallen trees.
Katoomba and Leura
- Three Sisters Walk has a minor detour via Spooners Lookout due to a fallen tree branch. No wheelchair or pram access.
- Katoomba Kiosk Reserve, Reids Plateau and Round Walk east are closed to due to Council upgrades. For details visit the Blue Mountains City Council website.
- Honeymoon Bridge is closed due to rockfall hazards. (Visible bridge from Echo Point. Side route off Three Sisters Track and Giant Stairs).
- Glenraphael Drive (Narrow Neck fire trail) is closed to vehicles near Cliff Drive due to a road subsidence. There is no vehicle access to Golden Stairs trackhead. Walkers and cyclists are permitted.
- Part of Lindeman Pass is closed due to a major landslide below Gladstone lookout. Roberts Pass is closed due to rockfall and landslide hazards.
- Six Foot track is closed at the boundary to the Jenolan Caves Karst Conservation Reserve. Jenolan Karst Conservation Reserve (including the Caves Visitor Precinct) is closed until 31 December 2026. There is no access to the entire reserve during this time.
- Mt Hay Road will be closed from 9 June to 17 December 2026 for Fire Trail upgrades. There will be no vehicle or pedestrian access during this time.
- No access to Fortress Ridge/Canyon, Butterbox track, Mount Hay Summit track and Lockleys Pylon walking track from 9 June to 17 December to allow for upgrade works along Mt Hay.
- There is no access Fortress or Butterbox canyon from 9th June until 17th December to allow for upgrade works along Mt Hay Road.
Wentworth Falls and Woodford
- Part of National Pass (west of Wentworth Falls middle crossing) is closed due to a major landslide and ongoing risks.
- Wentworth Pass and Slack Stairs are closed due to elevated boardwalk repairs. There is no access to Roberts Pass, Hippocrene or Vera Falls routes.
- Valley of the Waters is closed below Silvia Falls due rockfall hazards. There is no access to Roberts Pass, Hippocrene or Vera Falls.
- Fletchers lookout is closed for maintenance until Friday 28 August 2026.
- Lincolns Rock is closed. For details visit the Blue Mountains City Council website.
- Winbourne fire trail (L6) in Woodford will be closed for maintenance until 31st July.
- Lawson Ridge fire trail will be closed for road maintenance from 10 June to 17th July 2026. Open to walkers and cyclists on weekends.
Blackheath, Mount Victoria, Megalong Valley and Bells Line of Road
- Green Gully precinct including Dunphys Campground and Galong Cabins is closed for road upgrade works until 17th July. This means there is no access to the K-2-K, Iron Pot Route, Breakfast Creek, Ironmonger Route or Bellbird Ridge Fire Trail from Green Gully and Dunphys Campground.
- Pulpit Rock Reserve, lookouts and part of the walking track are closed. For more information visit the Blue Mountains City Council website. Pulpit Rock walking track from Popes Glen is open as far as the NPWS boundary (as shown on Google maps).
- Govetts descent and parts of Rodriguez Pass are closed due to rockfalls and landslides. Valley access from Blackheath is via Horse Track.
- Victoria Falls precinct,Pierces Pass and the Grose Valley walking tracks from Acacia Flat to Burra Korrain will be closed on Thursday 16th July to allow for helicopter operations. Closure staff will be located at all track heads throughout the day. (Victoria Falls will be closed at the National Parks gate)
Adventure recreation, canyons, abseiling and rock climbing
Juggler (aka Point Pilcher) Canyon exit has been affected by a recent rockfall event. Canyoners should use caution and exit around the impact site.
Some adventure recreation areas and routes may be closed where the access or exit road/track is mentioned above.

Closed areas: Closure and rehabilitation of unauthorised mountain bike trails
Unauthorised mountain bike trails in the Illawarra Escarpment State Conservation Area are being closed and rehabilitated in stages, in line with the Illawarra Escarpment Mountain Bike Strategy.
From June 2026, unauthorised trails near Mount Keira will be progressively closed and rehabilitated.
Closed trails will be signposted and may be physically blocked with barriers to support safe rehabilitation.
Please do not enter closed or restricted areas. Riders are reminded to use only approved, open trails. Penalties apply for non-compliance.
The Illawarra Escarpment Mountain Bike Strategy is being delivered by the National Parks and Wildlife Service and includes the 70-kilometre Illawarra Escarpment Mountain Bike Network, providing a safer and more sustainable alternative to unauthorised trails. The 20-kilometre Kembla mountain bike trails opened in 2025, with a further 50 km proposed for delivery in 2027.
Unauthorised trails that are not being formalised as part of the approved network are being progressively closed and rehabilitated as the network is delivered. This work protects environmental and cultural values and improves visitor safety.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting a night - time ground shooting program for fox control on Comerong Island beach from Wednesday 22 April to Friday 29 May 2026.
The operation will occur on Comerong Island Beach and surrounding areas and will be undertaken by qualified NPWS shooters in accordance with approved NPWS shoot plans. Shooting activities will take place at night on select evenings only. The program aims to protect nesting shorebirds by reducing fox predation.
Ground shooting will not occur during school holidays, weekends, or public holidays.
Access tracks and beach entrances will be temporarily closed and signposted prior to shooting operations. Members of the public must not enter closed areas during shooting periods.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service Hawkesbury-Nattai Area will be undertaking pig control using Hoggone (Sodium Nitrite) bait in Nattai National Park and Nattai State Conservation Area, as part of our ongoing pest species management program. Hoggone contains peanuts. Anyone with a Peanut allergy is advised not to handle bait product. Hoggone is lethal to pets and domestic animals, so it is recommended that you contain any livestock or animals during the program.
We will also commence pig trapping through Nattai NP and SCA, Burragorang SCA and Wollondilly River Nature Reserve. This will involve the use of firearms to shoot pigs in traps. Signage and a site assessment will be undertaken before any firearms are discharged.
The program will run between the 22nd of June and 31st of August 2026.

The end of Tallowa Dam Road in Morton National Park is currently closed due to cracks which have developed after multiple heavy rain events, creating the potential for a landslide. The closure is located approximately 1.5km east of Tallowa Dam crest.
There is no public access to Tallowa Dam. Paddlers must exit the lake at Beehive Point or Bendeela.
For continued safety and risk management of the site, the road will remain closed to the public until late 2026. The road will be reopened when the remediation works are completed. This work is being managed by National Parks and Wildlife Service and we will update this message when we have more information.

Access to Macquarie Rivulet (also known as 'Jump Rock') is not permitted. The track is steep and eroded, and contains unstable surfaces, cliffs and drop offs.
There is a high risk of injury from falls from heights. Do not enter the closed areas of this park.

Closed areas: Camping areas closed due to flood and fire damage
Camping is closed indefinitely at the following campgrounds due to fire damage and flooding. The closed campground include (open for day-use only):
- Pauls Point
- Sundeck
- Sawyers
- Burrawang
Please note that the campgrounds will remain open for day use. Some campgrounds may be affected by flood debris following heavy rain, and there may be steep sand walls to access sites.
Please be cautious and move onto another campground if safety issues occur. There have been many changes to campgrounds along the river, including reduced campground capacity. Some sites also have extensive regrowth following fires.
