The Williams River section of this park is closed due to bushfire. The closed areas are:

  • Williams River Picnic Area
  • Blue Gum Loop
  • Rocky Crossing Walk
  • Lagoon Pinch Picnic Area

Do not enter the closed areas. Penalties apply for non-compliance. This fire is called Allyn River Road.

Closed areas: Seasonal Closure of Barrington Tops NP 4WD trails

The following 4WD trails are closed to all public vehicles from Thursday 1 June 2023 to the afternoon of Friday 22 September 2023 for the winter seasonal closure:

  • Barrington trail - south
  • Barrington trail - central
  • Paddys Ridge trail
  • Butchers Swamp trail
  • Bullock Brush trail
  • Thunderbolts trail (between Barrington Tops Forest Road and Pheasants Creek Road)
  • Tugalow trail

Vehicle access to Junction Pools and Little Murray campgrounds and associated walking tracks and facilities is closed during this time. Visitors can still access all these campgrounds, walking tracks and facilities on foot or by bicycle.

Closed areas: gummi falls campground closure

 

Works have progressed well with the current weather conditions. New toilet facilities have been installed and completed. 

Gummi Falls campground is currently closed, but will open on Friday afternoon, 22nd September.

This closure also means there is no vehicle access to Bullock Brush, Tugalow and Thunderbolts (between Barrington Tops Forest Road and Pheasants Creek Road) trails until Friday 22nd September.

Fire bans: Park Fire Bans - Due to Current Conditions

A park fire ban is in place in Selected Day Use and Campgrounds in theses park due to current conditions and remains in effect unless otherwise extended or removed. During park fire ban periods, all campfire and solid fuel (wood, heat beads, charcoal, briquettes, hexamine) barbecues and stoves are prohibited. Gas and electric barbecues and cookers are permitted as long as:

  • They're under direct control of an adult
  • The ground within 2m of the barbecue is cleared of all flammable materials
  • There's an adequate supply of water (minimum of a bucket)

The following areas are closed for repair works until Tuesday 31 October 2023:

Access to the Banda Banda Aboretum is open however extreme caution should be exercised. The trail becomes very slippery in damp or even misty weather and there is an increased risk of fallen trees blocking the trail. There are limited places to turn around safely if the trail is blocked. Visitors are encouraged to walk in to the Arboretum rather than drive.

Aerial baiting is scheduled for 21/08/2023 to 25/08/2023

The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes.

The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species, and to minimise impact of wild dogs on neighbouring stock.

Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Safety alerts: Williams Top Road closed

Williams Top Road has been closed by Forestry Corporation of NSW (FCNSW) due to a landslip. Planning has been conducted and repairs will be undertaken as soon as possible. The closure affects access to the following areas in this park:

  • Lagoon Pinch picnic area
  • Corker trail
  • Wombat Creek campground
  • Careys Peak (via Corker trail)
  • Rocky Crossing walk

For more information on the closure visit the FCNSW website. The road re-opening date is not known at this stage.

Alternate access via Chichester State Forest (Allyn River Rd) may be available but is subject to flooding and varied road conditions.

Closed areas: Phytophthora quarantine area - Barrington Tops National Park

Phytophthora is a mould that causes dieback in plants. It's been found on the plateau in Barrington Tops National Park, predominantly on the Watergauge trail between Beean Beean and Black Swamp. The affected area is under quarantine with absolutely no visitor access.

Phytophthora is readily spread by mud carried by walkers' shoes and mountain-bike tyres. There are boot wash stations across the plateau for walkers to use, to ensure their boots 'Start clean, Stay clean'.
