Closed areas: Tomaree Coastal Walk Southern Gateway Construction

The concrete footpath between Pacific Avenue carpark (old cemetery) and the Tomaree National Park boundary at Birubi beach is closed.

The closure is to facilitate construction of the Tomaree Coastal Walk Southern Gateway. Pedestrians are encouraged to use alternative access between Pacific Ave Carpark and the Tomaree NP boundary via Ocean Ave.

Safety alerts: Big Rocky access restricted

Port Stephens Council roadworks are closing Gan Gan Road from Nelson Bay Road to Anna Bay Boreline from Tuesday 28 February until Thursday 6 April 2023. 

During this time, visitors can still access the Big Rocky visitor area. You will need to enter from the direction of One Mile (via Anna Bay or Frost Road). There is a ‘Road Closed’ sign at Frost Road, but visitors to Big Rocky can drive past this sign to access Big Rocky. Do NOT proceed further past Big Rocky.

Safety alerts: Tomaree Coastal Walk construction - caution

Works associated with the Tomaree Coastal Walk are continuing in 2023 with works generally including; new track construction, precinct construction and upgrades, bridge and boardwalk construction, installation of signage and interpretation, materials handling and movements and helicopter operations.

New trails are now open, however directional signage will progressively be installed between March 2023 and June 2023. Visitors are requested to proceed with caution along new trails which may not be adequately signposted and to please respect warning and closure signage and the advice of contractors and NPWS staff. Isolated closures may be enforced during times of construction and helicopter operations, visitors are encouraged to continue to monitor alerts for details of closures.

  • Fishermans Bay to Little Kingsley Beach

Safety alerts: Construction work - The Ruins campground and picnic area

The Ruins beach amenities block and southern beach access are closed from Monday 30 January to Friday 7 April 2023 due to construction works. Please avoid the construction zone and use the northern track to access Seven Mile Beach.

The main amenities block is still open for use.

Closed areas: The Mungo Track detour due to flood damage

The boardwalk between Tamboi trail and Brambles Green campground is closed due to flood damage.

You will need to follow the detour on The Mungo Track at Mungo Bush. Please follow the walking track to the beach and then walk south for 4km.

Take the slashed management trail which connects the beach to Mungo Brush Road to re-join The Mungo Track route.

Closed areas: Wreck Beach walking track closed

Wreck Beach walking track is closed due to heavy rain undermining the walking track causing significant damage to steps and landings. The closure will be in place for an extended period until repairs are undertaken.

Barriers and signage are in place for visitor safety.

Closed areas: Box Beach carpark night closure

Box Beach carpark is closed to vehicles from 10pm to 5am daily. The gate will be locked during these times.

Box Beach Access Road is also closed to vehicles during this period.

A fee will be charged for vehicles exiting after 10pm. Please call Certis Security on 1300 370 145 for assistance.

  • Myall Lakes National Park is always open but may have to close at times due to poor weather or fire danger.

  • Park entry fees:

    $8 per vehicle per day.

    The park has coin/card operated pay machines at Mungo Brush campground. Day passes are also available from the Manning Great Lakes Area Office, Bulahdelah Visitor Information Centre and the Hawks Nest Newsagency.

    Bombah Point ferry fees may also apply (cash payment only).
