Other planned events: Areas closed for aerial spraying program

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service will be undertaking herbicide spraying of Metsulfuron methyl 600WG between Monday 3 June and Sunday 30 June 2019. For public safety, treatment areas will be closed during the spraying. The spraying will be carried out for the control of Bitou Bush on headlands and beaches in:

  • Booti Booti National Park
  • Myall Lakes National Park (including Broughton Island)
  • Darawank Nature Reserve
  • Corrie Island Nature Reserve
  • Stormpetrel Nature Reserve
  • Little Broughton Island Nature Reserve

The program is expected to take 8 days to complete with suitable weather conditions.

Areas will be closed temporarily on the day of spraying and NPWS staff will be present during the helicopter spray operation. Please ensure you follow the directions of all warning signage and the directions of NPWS staff.

Other planned events: Wild dog and fox baiting program in southern Crowdy Bay National Park

NSW National Parks will be undertaking 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) ground baiting for wild dogs and foxes in the southern section of Crowdy Bay National Park. This program starts on Thursday 23 May and will finish by Wednesday 31 July 2019. It will run next to Harrington, Crowdy Head and Crowdy Bay Beach.

This baiting program is being carried out to reduce the impacts of wild dogs on neighbouring stock. It is also being carried out to reduce the impact of foxes on native wildlife.

Domestic pets, including dogs, are not permitted in national parks or reserves. Neighbours and visitors are reminded that 1080 baits are lethal to domestic pets. In the event of accidental poisoning, seek immediate veterinary assistance.

All baiting areas will have 1080 baiting signs at the access points.

Closed areas: Temporary closures for aerial weed spraying operation

Sections of coastal areas in parks between Hat Head and Harrington will be closed between Monday 20 May and Friday 31 May 2019. This is for a weed control operation targeting bitou bush.

Sections of beaches, carparks, roads and walking tracks will be closed temporarily while aerial spraying operations are underway. The affected parks are:

  • Hat Head National Park
  • Goolawah National Park and Regional Park
  • Limeburners Creek National Park
  • Crowdy Bay National Park
  • Kattang Nature Reserve

NSW National Parks staff will be on-site during closures and signage will be in place advising of the work.

This operation is dependent on weather conditions. Aerial spraying won't be carried out within 150 metres of campgrounds or neighbouring residences. It also won't be carried out during weather conditions where spray drift may impact these areas. All areas will reopen after completion.

Hungry, Racecourse, Delicate, Melaleuca, Point Plomer, Diamond Head, Indian Head, Kylies Beach and The Gap campgrounds will remain open at all times.

Closed areas: Diamond Head campground - main ammenity block closed

The main amenity block at Diamond Head campground will be closed from Monday 6 May to Friday 7 June 2019 for maintenance. Portable toilets and showers are available while this maintenance is being completed.

White Tree Bay campground is temporarily closed from Tuesday 7 May to Monday 9 September 2019 for maintenance during the cooler months. Alternative campgrounds are available nearby.

Dees Corner Campground will be temporarily closed from August to December 2019 for upgrade works. These works include improvements to drainage, campsite levelling,installation of new fireplaces and road works. Alternative campgrounds nearby that allow wood fires include:

  • Stewart and Lloyds campground
  • Korsmans Landing campground

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service will be conducting a hazard reduction burn on the ridge lines above Woko campground today, Wednesday 24 April 2019. There may still be smoke in the area for a number of days and NPWS will be monitoring the situation.

Safety alerts: Roadworks on Mungo Brush Road

there will be roadworks along Mungo Brush Road between April and December 2019. Expect changed traffic conditions and possible short delays between Dark Point carpark and Stewart and Lloyds campground. Drive to traffic conditions and follow safety signs.

The section of Mungo walking track between Robinsons Crossing and the start of Brambles Green trail is closed until December 2019. This is for public safety during the road construction works on Mungo Brush Road.

Duck Hole fire trail in Myall Lakes National Park will be closed for public safety between April and December 2019 due to roadworks. A section of Mungo Brush Road is being relocated.

Safety alerts: No driving on the dunes, except for the Recreational Vehicle Area

Drive only on the waterfront, or in the Recreational Vehicle Area (RVA).

  • All dunes between the Lavis Lane and Anna Bay accesses are closed to driving.
  • The RVA, which is located south of the Lavis Lane access, is open for dune driving.

Tide warning: At high tide, sections of the beach may be impassable, plan your trip to travel at low tide. If the beach front is too narrow to pass safely, retrace your route. Do not attempt to bypass around the dunes. It is recommended you do not drive on the beach 2 hours before and after high tide. Visit the Bureau of Meteorology website for further information
