Closed parks: Reserves closed due to severe weather event

A number of National Parks and Wildlife Service reserves will be closed to vehicles until further notice due to damage from severe weather event. These include:

  • Berrico National Reserve
  • The Glen National Reserve

Landslips and hazardous trees have been reported across many areas. For your safety, please avoid these reserves until damage assessments can be made and any safety issues rectified.

An aerial and ground baiting program will occur from Monday 10 May and Sunday 10 October 2021. All baiting locations will be identified by signs. The operation will involve the use of meat baits and meat bait products containing 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes.

Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW national parks and reserves. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting locations. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting an aerial baiting program in this park from Monday 11th October to Friday 22nd October 2021. The operation will involve the use of meat baits and meat bait products containing 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes.

The program is designed to minimise the impact of foxes on wildlife, especially after the 2019-2020 bushfires, and to minimise the impact of wild dogs and foxes on neighbouring stock.

All baiting locations will be identified by signs. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks and Reserves. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting locations. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Closed areas: Tubrabucca Road closed

Tubrabucca Road is closed until further notice between Barrington trail (central) and Paddys Ridge trail due to multiple bridge failures.

An engineer has assessed the bridges unsafe to all traffic. We realise the importance of this road for not only visitors but also for fire and pest management. We're working towards replacing the bridges as soon as possible.

Closed areas: Barrington Tops Forest Road closed between Honeysuckle and Devils Hole

Barrington Tops Forest Road is closed between Honeysuckle picnic area and Devils Hole due to unsafe road conditions.

Visitors can access Devils Hole from the west and Honeysuckle picnic area via Pheasants Creek Road. There is no access to Thunderbolts Lookout.

The road will re-open when weather conditions permit. Please check back for updates.

Closed areas: Gloucester Tops and Gloucester River campground closed

Gloucester River campground and the Gloucester Tops precinct are currently closed. This is because the bridge on Gloucester Tops Road, just inside the park entry, has been deemed unsafe for traffic. 

NPWS is working urgently on replacing the bridge, but it may take up to 6 months.

Closed areas: Mungo Beach closed to vehicles

4WD beach access within Myall Lakes National Park is currently closed from Tuesday 7 September until Thursday 29 September 2021, unless the closure needs to be extended.

The beach is severely eroded from recent high seas, making it unsafe for 4WD access. Staff will monitor the condition regularly and update this alert.

The following 4WD access trails are closed to vehicles due to the annual winter closure:

  • Barrington trail (south and central)
  • Paddys Ridge trail
  • Bullock Brush trail
  • Butchers Swamp trail
  • Thunderbolts trail
  • Tugalow trail

The following areas are also closed to vehicles during this time:

  • Junction Pools, Little Murray and Gummi Falls campgrounds
  • Associated walking tracks and facilities

You can still access all these campgrounds, walking tracks and facilities on foot or by bicycle.

The Ruins campground main amenities building will be closed from 19 April 2021 to 30 November 2021 for upgrades.

The Ruins campground will remain open during the construction period, however will operate at a 50 percent capacity. The beachside amenities building will be open providing shower and toilet facilities for campers. Campers may experience construction noise on week days between the hours of 7am to 4pm.

National Parks and Wildlife Services will be undertaking a wild dog trapping program in Myall Lakes National Park from Monday 30 August to Sunday 10 October 2021. The program will be conducted along roads and management trails within the park including:

Closed parks: Parks closed due to flood damage

Several Parks within the Hastings Macleay area are closed due to flood and storm damage. Access and camping is not permitted.

Widespread flooding has resulted in extensive damage to roads, campgrounds and other park facilities.

Closures are in place until 8am Friday 1 October 2021. Some parks will remain closed for extended periods.

Other incidents: Main access road to Barrington Tops Plateau closed from Gloucester

The main access road to Barrington Tops Plateau from Gloucester has been closed by Forest Corp until further notice due to serious damage caused during the weather event before Easter.

You can only access campgrounds and visitor precincts located on the plateau from the western side via Scone. Barrington Tops Forest Road (also known as the Scone-Gloucester Road) is closed between Cobark Park and Honeysuckle picnic areas. There is no access from Gloucester to Scone on this road.

Road re-opening dates are unknown at this stage, however NSW Forestry Corporation is working on restoring the road. This media release has more information.

Closed areas: Phytophthora quarantine area - Barrington Tops National Park

Phytophthora is a mould that causes dieback in plants. It's been found on the plateau in Barrington Tops National Park, predominantly on the Watergauge trail between Beean Beean and Black Swamp. The affected area is under quarantine with absolutely no visitor access.

Phytophthora is readily spread by mud carried by walkers' shoes and mountain-bike tyres. There are boot wash stations across the plateau for walkers to use, to ensure their boots 'Start clean, Stay clean'.

Five Islands, Duck Holes, and Moor Creek walking tracks remain closed until dangerous tree works are complete, a pedestrian bridge is reinstalled (Five Islands) and tree risk assessment is completed.

Many infrastructure items, including signs and creek crossings, are yet to be reinstalled.
