NPWS staff are conducting a hazard reduction burn along Mount Nelson Management trail in the south-eastern part of Barrington Tops National Park.

No visitor areas will be closed, but smoke will be visible from other parts of the park. Do not enter any closed area or area with fire.

Closed areas: Annual winter closure of 4WD trails on Barrington Tops

4WD trails on Barrington Tops are closed to all vehicles from 1 June 2018 to 1 October 2018 for annual seasonal closure. However, NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service will open all trails listed below from Friday 28 September 2018 to allow visitors to enjoy the October long weekend and the start of the school holidays:

  • Barrington trail (south and central)
  • Paddys Ridge trail
  • Butchers Swamp trail
  • Bullock Brush trail
  • Tugalow trail
  • Thunderbolts trail

Please note: Tugalow trail, Thunderbolts trail and the last 5km of Barrington trail south may remain closed, depending on trail conditions.

All campgrounds listed below will be accessible by 4WD for the long weekend.

  • Little Murray
  • Junction Pools
  • Gummi Falls

Closed areas: Gloucester Falls lookout closed for upgrade

Gloucester Falls lookout is closed due to a major upgrade. The site is closed to visitors to allow these works to be completed safely.

Access to the following areas from Gloucester Tops are still open:

  • Andrew Laurie lookout
  • the Antarctic Beech forest walk
  • the River walk
  • Gloucester Tops picnic area.

Closed areas: Phytophthora quarantine area - Barrington Tops National Park

Phytophthora is a mould that causes dieback in plants. It has been found on the plateau in Barrington Tops National Park, predominantly on the Watergauge trail between Beean Beean and Black Swamp. The affected area is under quarantine with absolutely no visitor access.

Phytophthora is readily spread by mud carried by walkers' shoes and mountain-bike tyres. There are boot wash stations across the plateau for walkers to use, to ensure their boots 'Start clean, Stay clean'.

NPWS are conducting a 1080 baiting program for wild dogs in Barrington Tops National Park and State Conservation Area for the next 6 months starting from 15 March 2018.
