Closed areas: Notice of public safety temporary closure – Barrington Tops National Park and State Conservation Area

The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be closing the below visitor areas and campgrounds on the Barrington Tops plateau area from Monday 2 to Friday 27 September 2024 (including weekend days) in Barrington Tops National Park and State Conservation Area for management operations.

  • Devils Hole campground and day use area
  • Horse Swamp campground
  • Polblue Falls day use area
  • Barrington Trail (central)
  • Butchers Swamp Trail
  • Paddys Ridge Trail
  • Green Gap Trail
  • Bullock Brush Trail
  • Tugalow Trail
  • Thunderbolts Trail
  • Horse Swamp Trail
  • Polblue Ridge Trail

 

Do Not Enter. Penalties apply for non-compliance.

Closure notices will be placed at all visitor areas and relevant access points.

Barrington Tops Forest Road (Scone Gloucester Road), Tubrabucca Road and Pheasant Creek Road will remain open for through traffic. Road users may experience short delays.

Other planned events: Notice of 1080 Aerial Baiting Program

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting an ongoing aerial baiting program from Monday 16 September 2024 to Monday 30 September 2024. The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs.

The program will take place in The Basin Nature Reserve, Booralong Nature Reserve, Bulagaranda Aboriginal Area, Cottan-Bimbang National Park, Curracubundi National Park, Indwarra National Park, Mummel Gulf National Park and Mummel Gulf State Conservation Area, Nowendoc National Park, Oxley Wild Rivers National Park, Tomallo Nature Reserve,Tuggolo Creek Nature Reserve and Werrikimbe National Park. 

The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species, and to minimise the impact of wild dogs on neighbouring stock.

Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will conduct a ground shoot for feral animal control operation from Monday 2 to Friday 27 September 2024 (including weekend days) in Barrington Tops National Park.

The below visitor areas and campgrounds on the Barrington Tops plateau area will be closed during this period, including:

  • Polblue campground and day use area
  • Little Murray campground
  • Junction Pools campground
  • Black Swamp campground
  • Wombat Creek campground
  • Careys Peak lookout
  • Barrington Trail day use area
  • Barrington Trail (south) including Little Murray Trail and Junction Pools Trail
  • Narrow Plain Trail
  • Aeroplane Hill Trail (including Big Hole Trail)
  • Edwards Swamp Trail
  • The Corker
  • Link Trail
  • Careys Peak Trail
  • Polblue Swamp walking track including Polblue Trail

Western section of park closed for ground pest control operation

The western section of Curracabundi National Park (Rockglen and Lea Hurst precincts) is closed 9am, Friday 19 January 2024 to 10am, Monday 30 December 2024 for periodical ground based pest control operations that will be conducted throughout this period. Track works are being undertaken on Blue Gum Loop and Rocky Crossing walks. Temporary closures may occur and will be posted as a separate alert. Be aware of contractors and machinery operating in the area and follow any onsite signage or directions from staff or contractors. Track surfaces may be muddy and uneven so take care.

Burraga Swamp walking track is currently inaccessible to vehicles due to closure of Mt Allyn Rd. Forestry Corporation of NSW has closed the road due to a failed bridge. The reopening date is not known at this stage. For more information, phone Gloucester NPWS Office on 02 6538 5300.
