Other planned events: 1080 aerial and ground baiting for wild dogs

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be undertaking 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) aerial and ground baiting for wild dog and fox control in the following parks and reserves:

  • New England National Park
  • Jobs Mountain Nature Reserve
  • Serpentine Nature Reserve
  • Mount Hyland nature reserve and state conservation area
  • Gagul Waajaarr Nature Reserve

The program starts on Monday 20 May and will finish by Friday 30 August 2019.

This baiting program is being carried out as part of a broader coordinated control program cooperatively with Northern Tablelands Local Land Services and Forestry Corporation of NSW. This is to reduce the impacts of wild dogs on stock and wildlife. The program is part of an integrated regional pest management strategy.

Domestic pets, including dogs, are not permitted in national parks or reserves. Neighbours and visitors are reminded that 1080 baits are lethal to domestic pets.

All areas will have 1080 baiting signs at the access points to areas where baiting is happening. In the event of accidental poisoning, seek immediate veterinary assistance.

For more information, please call the NPWS Coffs Coast area office on 02 6652 0900.

Closed areas: Temporary closures for aerial weed spraying operation

Sections of coastal areas in parks between Hat Head and Harrington will be closed between Monday 20 May and Friday 31 May 2019. This is for a weed control operation targeting bitou bush.

Sections of beaches, carparks, roads and walking tracks will be closed temporarily while aerial spraying operations are underway. The affected parks are:

  • Hat Head National Park
  • Goolawah National Park and Regional Park
  • Limeburners Creek National Park
  • Crowdy Bay National Park

This operation is dependent on weather conditions. Aerial spraying won't be carried out within 150 metres of campgrounds or neighbouring residences. It also won't be carried out during weather conditions where spray drift may impact these areas. All areas will reopen after completion.

Hungry, Racecourse, Delicate, Melaleuca, Point Plomer, Diamond Head, Indian Head, Kylies Beach and The Gap campgrounds will remain open at all times.
