Erosion and surface damages are present on walking tracks, road surfaces and managed areas across national parks of the Hastings Macleay Area following significant and prolonged rainfall events. National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be doing a 1080 ground and aerial baiting program from Monday 11 April to Monday 4 July 2022 in this park.

The operations will use a combination of manufactured and meat baits containing 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes. Signs will be placed at the entry to all the baiting locations. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting locations. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting an aerial and ground baiting program in this park from Sunday 23 May to Sunday 31 July 2022.

Closed parks: Parks closed due to flooding - Coffs Area

Most national parks and reserves in the Coffs Coast area are closed until at least Friday 1 July 2022 due to widespread flooding and severe weather as risk assessments and repairs are undertaken. 

Access to hard-roofed accommodation on-park remain open.

Access to campgrounds at Doon Goonge in Chaelundi National Park and Thungutti campgrounds in New England National Park have are open.

As parks, roads and other facilities are assessed as safe, they will be reopened. This closure may be extended and any extension will be posted as soon as possible.

Remember, it’s never safe to drive, ride or walk through flood waters. Roads into and throughout the park are / may also be closed. Check Live Traffic NSW for up-to-date information and contact the local park office.

Chaelundi campground and picnic area is closed until 8am Monday 1 August 2022 due to widespread and continued flooding and flood damage.

There is no road access past the intersection of Misty Creek Road and Jordans Fire Trail. Please leave your vehicle here and proceed on foot.

This is a remote and isolated area with no mobile phone reception, so please ensure you are well prepared before setting out on foot. Be aware that roadside drains may be muddier than they appear, particularly after continuing rain, so please check before driving or parking around drainage works.

Access to Chaelundi campground, the Escarpment walk and Misty Creek lookout in Guy Fawkes River National Park is only possible from the southern end of Chaelundi Road at Dundurrabin. Chaelundi Road from the northern end is closed due to bridge damage sustained in bushfires.
