Fire bans: Park fire ban

A park fire ban is in place in this park and remains in effect unless otherwise extended or removed. During park fire ban periods, all campfire and solid fuel (wood, heat beads, charcoal, briquettes, hexamite) barbecues and stoves are prohibited. Gas and electric barbecues and cookers are permitted as long as:

  • They're under direct control of an adult
  • The ground within 2m of the barbecue is cleared of all flammable materials
  • There's an adequate supply of water (minimum of a bucket)

If a Total Fire Ban is in place, please contact the local park office before using a gas and or electric barbecue or cooker.

Bongil picnic area is closed from 3pm on Friday 22 February until at least 8am on Monday 25 February 2019 due to strong winds and the risk of falling trees and tree limbs. This closure may be extended and any extension will be posted as soon as possible.

The Paperbarks section of Lake Arragan campground is closed, due to Tropical Cyclone Oma. The area may be affected by big seas, king tides and high winds. This closure may be extended and any extension will be posted as soon as possible.

Pebbly Beach campground in Yuraygir National Park will be closed to visitors from 1pm Friday 22 February 2019 until 1pm Wednesday 27 February 2019. This is because large ocean swells and weather associated with Cyclone Oma are expected to impact the foreshore and beach, and potentially directly damage the campground.

This closure may be extended and any extension will be posted as soon as possible. NSW National Parks apologises for the inconvenience this closure will cause.

Yuraygir coastal walk in Yuraygir National Park will be closed to visitors from 1pm Friday 22 February 2019 until 1pm Wednesday 27 February 2019. This is because sea conditions and weather associated with Cyclone Oma are expected to increasingly impact the walking trail over the weekend.

Sandon River campground in Yuraygir National Park will be closed to visitors from 1pm Friday 22 February 2019 until 1pm Wednesday 27 February 2019.
This is because large ocean swells and weather associated with Cyclone Oma are expected to impact the foreshore and beach, and potentially directly damage the campground.

Visitors who have booked sites at Sandon River campground can move their booking to future available dates or receive a full refund. To do this, please call 13000 PARKS (72757) or email parks.info@environment.nsw.gov.au. The 13000 Parks line is available 7 days a week.

The NPWS apologises for the inconvenience this closure will cause.

A 1080 wild dog control program is being conducted in Cascade National Park and Dorrigo National Park from Friday 8 February 2019 to Friday 22 March 2019. The 1080 poison is lethal to dogs and cats, and pet owners are reminded that domestic animals are not permitted in national parks.

A 1080 fox baiting program is being conducted in the Moonee beach area and park from Monday 10 September 2018 until Thursday 28 February 2019. This program is vitally important to the long-term survival of threatened and endangered shorebirds, such as the Pied Oyster Catcher.

The walk behind Crystal Shower Falls (waterfall) is closed due to unstable rocks falling onto the walk track. The walk behind the waterfall will remain closed until further notice.

The Wonga Walk, including the Crystal Shower Falls suspension bridge, remains open to the public.

Closed areas: Angourie Back Beach - staircase removed

Walkers on the Yuraygir Coastal Walk are advised that the staircase at the southern end of Angourie Back Beach has been removed due to safety concerns. All walkers should commence the walk via the track at Mara Creek picnic area, as there is no longer access from the beach. Penalties apply for non-compliance. Closed areas: Road closure

Some areas of this park are closed due to demolition of bridge from past flooding event. This closure applies until further notice. Closed areas include the 4WD access to North Washpool, an area also known as Washpool rest area, entering from Baryulgil onto Collum Collum Road. The bridge is washed away, at the junction of Washpool Creek and Collum Collum Road.

  • Washpool National Park’s 2WD entrance off Gwydir Highway onto Coachwood Drive and Washpool Forest Way is open.
  • Bellbird campground, Coombadjha campground and the Granites lookout and picnic areas are accessible.
