Closed areas: Lower Wonga walk - part closure

A section of the lower Wonga walk will be closed near Tristania Falls from Monday 30 November until Friday 4 December 2020 for track maintenance.

Wonga walk remains open to the Glade, Walk with the birds, Crystal Showers, Hardwood lookout and Tristania Falls. However the full loop walk will not be possible during the closure.

NSW National Parks is monitoring wild dogs and foxes and running a 1080 pest management program:

  • Baiting is happening in Yuraygir National Park from Wednesday 1 July 2020 until Wednesday 30 June 2021.
  • Baiting is happening in Everlasting Swamp State Conservation Area and National Park from Wednesday 1 July 2020 until Wednesday 30 June 2021.

There will be signs at baiting locations. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW national parks. Pets and working dogs may be affected, and 1080 is lethal to cats and dogs. Pets and working dogs in the vicinity must be restrained or muzzled and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

These programs are run to protect threatened species identified in the NSW Fox Threat Abatement Plan and Saving our Species programs.

We encourage landholders to participate in control programs on private property. Contact North Coast Local Land Services to discuss and arrange programs. Delays may occur due to unsuitable weather conditions.

NPWS may also run additional programs following these initial programs, depending on wild dog activity.

This program will use meat baits and meat bait products containing 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes.

This program is designed to minimise the impact of wild dogs on neighboring stock and to reduce the impact of foxes on native wildlife.

All baiting locations will be identified by signs. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW national parks and reserves. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs should be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting locations. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Vehicle access to Doon Goonge campground and Shannon Creek forest drive is not available. The 2019/20 bushfires have resulted in major landslips on state forest, and two major bridges have been destroyed. To access the campground, use Quartz Road.

Most of Guy Fawkes River National Park is closed due to bushfire damage. Upper Ebor Falls is open, so visitors can enjoy the falls. This park is fire-affected and facilities within Ebor Falls picnic area have also been affected. 

The following areas are closed:

  • Chaelundi campground
  • Dalmorton campground
  • Escarpment walk
  • Misty Creek lookout
  • Bicentennial National Trail through the entire park
  • Guy Fawkes River Wilderness areas

All NPWS campgrounds now require you to make an online booking before you stay, or complete a Trip Intention Form for those that are remote and do not have a dedicated webpage, like Long Point and The Green campgrounds.

A 1080 fox baiting program will be conducted in Moonee Beach Nature Reserve from Tuesday 11 August 2020 until Sunday 28 February 2021. This program is vitally important to the long-term survival of threatened and endangered shorebirds, including the pied oystercatcher.

Dogs are not permitted in NSW national parks. Non-target animals may be affected by 1080 baits. Ensure that dogs are not exposed to the risk of poison baits.

An aerial and ground baiting operation will take place in Barrington Tops National Park and State Conservation Area, Wallabadah Nature Reserve, Ben Halls Gap Nature Reserve and National Park, Crawney Pass National Park, Curracabundi National Park and State Conservation Area, Mernot Nature Reserve, Monkeycot Nature Reserve and Watchimbark Nature Reserve from Tuesday 31 March to Wednesday 30 September 2020. Meat baits containing 1080 (sodium fluroacetate) poison will be used. The program is for the control of wild dog and foxes. Baiting locations are identified by signs.

Please remember that domestic pests are not permitted on NPWS estate. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Closed areas: Grey Cliff stairs closed

The stairs from Grey Cliff campground to the beach are closed. The stairs have been washed away because of the large swell from Cyclone Oma. Visitors can't access the beach via these stairs.

Visitors can access the beach via the old vehicle beach access point 250m north of the stairs.
