Fire bans: Park fire ban

A park fire ban is in place in this park and remains in effect unless otherwise extended or removed. During park fire ban periods, all campfire and solid fuel (wood, heat beads, charcoal, briquettes, hexamine) barbecues and stoves are prohibited. Gas and electric barbecues and cookers are permitted as long as:

  • They're under direct control of an adult
  • The ground within 2m of the barbecue is cleared of all flammable materials
  • There's an adequate supply of water (minimum of a bucket)

If a Total Fire Ban is in place, please contact the local park office before using a gas and or electric barbecue or cooker.

Closed areas: Part of Lake Arragan campground closed

The Paperbarks area in Lake Arragan campground is closed due to bushfire damage. This closure may be extended and any extension will be posted as soon as possible.

Closed areas: Grey Cliff stairs closed

The stairs from Grey Cliff campground to the beach are closed. The stairs have been washed away because of the large swell from Cyclone Oma. Visitors can't access the beach via these stairs.

Visitors can access the beach via the old vehicle beach access point 250m north of the stairs.

Other planned events: 1080 fox baiting program - Moonee Beach Nature Reserve

A 1080 fox baiting program will be conducted in Moonee Beach Nature Reserve from Monday 5 August 2019 until Friday 28 February 2020. This program is vitally important to the long-term survival of threatened and endangered shorebirds, including the pied oystercatcher.

Dogs are not permitted in NSW national parks. Non-target animals may be affected by 1080 baits. Ensure that dogs are not exposed to the risk of poison baits. For further information call the NPWS Coffs Coast area office on 02 6657 2309.

Other planned events: Shorebird protection program - 1080 fox and wild dog program underway

NSW National Parks will run a 1080 fox baiting program in this park from Monday 8 July to Friday 20 December 2019. Where wild dogs are detected during these programs, they will also be controlled. Signs will be located at entrances to reserves where baits have been laid.

Dogs are not permitted in national parks or nature reserves. Please be aware of these control programs and keep domestic pets to designated pet exercise areas. Avoid bait stations and/or ejectors at all times.

These programs are priority initiatives of the NSW Fox Threat Abatement Plan to protect breeding threatened shorebirds.

NPWS is monitoring wild dogs and foxes and running a 1080 wild dog and fox pest management program in the following national parks:

  • Everlasting Swamp National Park
  • Everlasting Swamp State Conservation Area
  • Yuraygir National Park
  • Yuraygir State Conservation Area

Domestic pets are highly susceptible to 1080 poison. Dogs, cats and other pets and domestic animals are not permitted in NSW national parks, reserves and state conservation areas. Please be aware of the baiting programs and avoid bait stations in all areas, at all times. There will be signs up in areas where baits have been laid, indicating the date the baits were placed.

These programs are run to protect threatened species identified in the NSW Fox Threat Abatement Plan and Saving our Species programs.

We encourage landholders to participate in control programs on private property. Contact North Coast Local Land Services to discuss and arrange programs. Delays may occur due to unsuitable weather conditions and associated restricted access. NPWS may also run additional programs following these initial programs, depending on wild dog activity.

Safety alerts: Barcoongere Way not recommended for vehicles

Please use McPhillips Road, off the new Pacific Highway, to get to Pebbly Beach and Station Creek campgrounds. Barcoongere Way is not recommended for any vehicles due to severe road damage.

Safety alerts: New road conditions at Black Rocks campground - take care

There have been recent roadworks around Black Rocks campground. These roadworks include newly graded road and repair of existing speed bumps.

Visitors are reminded to travel at the recommended signposted speed limit for the safety of other visitors. The speed bumps are in place to reduce traffic speed given the number of other visitors in the campground.

Small vehicles should exercise caution when crossing speed bumps.

Access to Black Rocks campground from the Pacific Highway via The Gap Road has changed.

The turnoff to The Gap Road has permanently closed as part of the Pacific Highway upgrade. Access to The Gap Road is now via Tuckombil Road, which runs parallel to the highway. 

The turnoff to Tuckombil Road is 2km south of the southern end of the town of Woodburn. Follow Tuckombil Road south for 1.8km, then turn left onto The Gap Road. Black Rocks campground is 20km south along The Gap Road. 

Please drive slowly along The Gap Road because it is unsealed.

Safety alerts: Ilmenite stockpile removal and site rehabilitation

Visitors to Black Rocks campground should expect to encounter large trucks on The Gap Road. This is part of a major project to remove a sand mining tailings stockpile from the park and restore the area to a natural ecosystem. Park visitors are asked to slow down and exercise caution while driving along The Gap Road. No works associated with this project will be undertaken on weekends, public holidays or NSW school holidays. The truck movements are expected to continue until June 2020. Walkers on the Yuraygir Coastal Walk are advised that the staircase at the southern end of Angourie Back Beach has been removed due to safety concerns. All walkers should commence the walk via the track at Mara Creek picnic area, as there is no longer access from the beach. Penalties apply for non-compliance. Attention for campers at Black Rocks regarding periodic aircraft noise over the campground. The Department of Defence has a training area within Bundjalung National Park north of Black Rocks campground. Aircraft may fly over the campground from time to time. Partial closure. No 4WD beach access from Black Rocks campground. Due to significant storm damage, the 4WD beach access at Black Rocks campground is closed. Vehicles may still drive along Ten Mile Beach north from the Shark Bay 4WD beach access, but cannot exit at Black Rocks.There are no other beach access points on Ten Mile Beach other than Shark Bay 4WD beach access. No 4WD access north of Black Rocks campground.
