Other planned events: 1080 baiting operation

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting an ongoing ground baiting program in Yuraygir National Park from 1 January to 31 July 2026.

The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes. It's designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species, and to minimise impact of wild dogs on neighbouring stock.

Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

For more information, contact the NPWS Grafton area office on 02 6641 1500.

Other planned events: Aerial bitou bush treatment program - areas closed

Station Creek Beach will be closed for a 4-hour window in the coming weeks to treat bitou bush infestations on the coastal dunes. The treatment is weather dependent and will be confirmed on the day.

NPWS staff will be at the area to secure the treatment site and inform visitors about the closure.

Station Creek Campground will remain open.

This program is part of a systematic weed control approach. The areas being treated have dense bitou bush infestations that are not accessible using other treatment methods. The chemical treatment being used is metsulfuron methyl 1-2g/10L.

Penalties apply for non-compliance. For more information, please email or call the NPWS Clarence office on 02 6641 1500.
