Closed areas: Woolgoolga Headland closed for hazard reduction burn
NPWS is undertaking a hazard reduction burn on Woolgoolga Headland on Friday 4th September 2026.
Woolgoolga Headland will be closed to the public (by vehicle and pedestrian) to ensure safety during the fire operation.
The closure will apply at the eastern end of Pollack Avenue and at the Woolgoolga Headland watertower on Ocean St, with traffic control in place.
The closure will be in place from 730am Friday 4/9 until the site is safe to reopen to the public on Friday afternoon.
NPWS is undertaking this burn with Gumbaynggirr (Garby and Coffs Local Aboriginal Land Council) guidance and supported by Woolgoolga Fire and Rescue NSW and a local NSW Rural Fire Service brigade.
This low intensity burn aims to improve the Themeda (kangaroo grass) health, reduce weeds, enable Gumbaynggirr people to burn on country and reduce community risk.
The burn will focus on the northern half of the headland.

Sections of Sandon Beach north of Sandon River campground in Yuraygir National Park will be periodically closed from 26 August to 18 September 2026 for aerial drone spraying operations.
This program is part of a systematic weed control program targeting Bitou bush throughout Yuraygir National Park. Bitou bush will be sprayed by drone with the herbicide Metsulfuron methyl 600/kg.
The operations are weather dependent. The area may be closed for a period of up to 4 hours. This work will not affect the camping areas.

The program will take place in Yuraygir National Park.
The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species.
Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Pigeon Gully in Yuraygir National Park will experience periodic closure between 1 July and 30 September 2026 for aerial spraying operations.
Lantana will be sprayed by drone with the herbicide Glyphosate biactive. The area to be treated has dense lantana infestations that are not accessible using other treatment methods. This program is part of a systematic weed control program throughout Yuraygir National Park.
The operations are weather dependent and take only 1 day to complete in favourable weather conditions. The site will be closed for a period of up to 4 hours.

Closed areas: Urumbilum Falls timber bridge closed - Bindarri NP
The timber bridge which provides access from Urumbilum Falls Carpark east across Urumbilum Creek to the Urumbilum Falls Day Use Area is closed.
This closure is necessary due to the surface fill on this elevated timber bridge eroding, causing it to be unsafe for walkers.
For alternate access, options are to use the shallow road ford adjacent (only in times of low water flow), or alternatively consider the flagged walking track to access Urumbilum Falls.
NPWS will be rerouting and improving the walking track access to Urumbilum Falls as part of the Dorrigo Escarpment Great Walk over the next two years. This project is already planned and funded, with on-ground work underway in other sectors.

Bindarray Picnic Area is closed to the public until late September due to construction works.
There will be no access possible via vehicle or pedestrians during this time.
The closed area is from the gate at the northern end of Jersery Bull Rd (near junction with Pine Rd) and south to Bindarray Picnic Area.
There is no change to any access to Pine Rd.
Construction of a new pedestrian suspension bridge across the Urumbilium River near Bindarray Picnic Area will provide improved access to the site once works are completed.
This project is part of the Dorrigo Escarpment Great Walk, which will provide a new public walking track from Dorrigo Rainforest Centre to Bindarray Picnic Area.

The Lyrebird Link ramp to the walking tracks from the Dorrigo Rainforest Centre has been closed to address safety risks. Temporary access to the walks via a short steep detour (18 degrees or 1 in 3) is unsuitable for mobility impaired visitors and prams. Moonee Creek (Sugar Mill Creek) Bridge is closed as the bridge was removed due to damage. A new bridge will be built in its place, please see below link for details.
The bridge crossing provides access:

- from Moonee south to Coffs Coast Regional Park, Green Bluff and Sapphire North.
If you are planning to do the Solitary Islands coastal walk please reroute:
- west along Moonee Beach Road to the south-west corner of the shopping centre
- south along new concrete path on eastern side of Pacific Highway
- south onto southern end of North Solitary Drive
- east onto North Sapphire Road to the beach access at Beachstone Cafe.
Green Bluff is still accessible from the south via Rutile trail, off Ivory Circuit in North Sapphire.
