Safety alerts: Point Lookout Road - CLOSED UNTIL FRIDAY 28 January 2022

Point Lookout Road is currently CLOSED and not suitable for vehicles due to excessive rainfall.   The road will hopefully be re-openned on Friday 28 January but traffic will be subject to STOP / GO traffic control until 5th February.   Thungutti Camprgound and other walking tracks and picnic areas in the Point Lookout precinct will not be accessible until Friday 28 January.

Moonpar Forest Drive is open to 4WD vehicles only due to wet conditions. The following areas can only be accessed by 4WD:

  • Cod Hole campground
  • Platypus Flat campground
  • Norm Jolly picnic area

Please take care when driving in this park as continual wet weather around the North Coast has made many road sections in this park slippery.

Safety alerts: New England Wilderness Walk wet weather warning

The Bellinger River catchment has experienced above average rainfall over the past few months and river levels can rise quickly with rain.  River crossings on the Wilderness Walk become extremely dangerous when river levels rise and walkers may become stranded.

Do not do the walk during periods of high river levels or forecast rainfall.

Check the Bureau of Meteorology for river levels and rainfall before setting off.
