During park fire ban periods, all campfire and solid fuel (wood, heat beads, charcoal, briquettes, hexamine) barbecues and stoves are prohibited. Gas and electric barbecues and cookers are permitted as long as:

  • The ground within 2m of the barbecue is cleared of all flammable materials
  • There's an adequate supply of water (minimum of a bucket)

The following areas are closed due to bushfires and fire danger: 

  • Little Murray campground
  • Junction Pools campground
  • Wombat Creek campground
  • Black Swamp campground
  • Corker trail

  • Aeroplane Hill trail
  • Edwards Swamp trail
  • Big Hole trail
  • Polblue trail
  • All roads and walking tracks south of Barrington Tops Forest Road to Careys Peak, including Barrington trail

The following areas are open:

  • Gloucester Tops and all Barrington Tops campgrounds and picnic areas north of Barrington Tops Forest Road
  • Picnic area and walks in the Williams River area (BBQ out of order).

Through access between Scone and Gloucester is possible along Barrington Tops Forest Road. Motorists are advised to be vigilant about bushfires in the area.

The following areas in Crowdy Bay National Park are closed due to bushfire damage:

  • Kylies Hut campground
  • All walking trails between Diamond Head and Kylies Beach campgrounds
  • Walking trails at Indian Head campground

For public safety, there is no access to closed areas until restoration and safety works are completed. Although hazardous trees have been checked and cleared in campgrounds and along roads, there are still vulnerable and hazardous trees within the landscape.

Other planned events: 1080 pest management

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service is doing 1080 ground baiting of wild dogs and foxes in Lake Innes Nature Reserve, Lake Innes State Conservation Area, Innes Ruins Historic Site and Queens Lake State Conservation Area.

This baiting program will run from Monday 30 December 2019 to Friday 28 February 2020. It will reduce the impacts of pest animals on wildlife and threatened species in the park after the bushfires.

There will be 1080 baiting signs at the entrance to baiting areas. Don’t touch baits. Some baits may be buried. Penalties apply for non-compliance.

Domestic pets, including dogs, are not permitted in national parks or reserves. 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) baits are lethal to domestic dogs and cats. In the event of accidental poisoning, seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Safety alerts: Crowdy Bay National Park - safety advice for visitors

Crowdy Bay National Park has been significantly affected by the recent bushfires. If you're visiting, be prepared for a visible difference in the appearance of the landscape. NPWS has been working to repair critical infrastructure and to address safety issues.

The following areas have reopened:

  • Diamond Head campground
  • Kylies Beach campground
  • Indian Head campground
  • Beach access from Diamond Head and Kylies Beach campgrounds only

However, several areas within Crowdy Bay National Park remain closed, including: 

  • All walking trails between Diamond Head and Kylies Beach campgrounds
  • Walking trails at Indian Head campground
  • Crowdy Gap campground and Kylies Hut campground

Closed areas: Phytophthora quarantine area - Barrington Tops National Park

Phytophthora is a mould that causes dieback in plants. It has been found on the plateau in Barrington Tops National Park, predominantly on the Watergauge trail between Beean Beean and Black Swamp. The affected area is under quarantine with absolutely no visitor access.

Phytophthora is readily spread by mud carried by walkers' shoes and mountain-bike tyres. There are boot wash stations across the plateau for walkers to use, to ensure their boots 'Start clean, Stay clean'.
