Safety alerts: Roadworks on Captain Cook Bicentennial Drive

Road maintenance works are scheduled for Captain Cook Bicentennial Drive from Monday 5 August to Friday 23 August 2019, 7am to 3.30pm. Council staff will be working on the section between Koonwarra Street and the top of North Brother Mountain.

The road will be completely closed at the base of the mountain on the corner of Captain Cook Bicentennial Drive and Koonwarra Street. The road will be open outside work hours and on weekends. Walkers can still access the area on the walking track off Laurie Street.

Other planned events: 1080 fox baiting program - Gaagal Wanggaan National Park

Visitors and residents in the Scotts Head, Gumma Reserve and Nambucca areas should be aware that a 1080 fox baiting program is being conducted in Gaagal Wanggaan National Park. This program will run from Tuesday 6 August 2019 to Friday 28 February 2020.

Dogs are not permitted in NSW national parks. Non-target animals may be affected by 1080 baits. Please ensure that dogs are not exposed to the risk of poison baits.

This program is vitally important to the long-term survival of threatened and endangered shorebirds, such as the little tern.

Closed areas: Lighthouse Road closed

Lighthouse Road in Sea Acres National Park will be closed from Matthew Flinders Drive to Tacking Point Lighthouse from Tuesday 19 June until Monday 30 September 2019. This is because Port Macquarie Hastings Council (PMHC) is upgrading the road. 

This will affect access to Lighthouse Road carpark and Port Macquarie coastal walk. Visitors can access the coastal walk and Tacking Point Lighthouse via Shelley and Miners Beach walking tracks.

Other planned events: Wild dog and fox baiting program in southern Crowdy Bay National Park

NSW National Parks will be undertaking 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) ground baiting for wild dogs and foxes in the southern section of Crowdy Bay National Park. This program starts on Thursday 23 May and will finish by Wednesday 31 July 2019. It will run next to Harrington, Crowdy Head and Crowdy Bay Beach.

This baiting program is being carried out to reduce the impacts of wild dogs on neighbouring stock. It is also being carried out to reduce the impact of foxes on native wildlife.

Domestic pets, including dogs, are not permitted in national parks or reserves. Neighbours and visitors are reminded that 1080 baits are lethal to domestic pets. In the event of accidental poisoning, seek immediate veterinary assistance.

All baiting areas will have 1080 baiting signs at the access points.
