Closed parks: Parks closed due to flood damage - Hastings-Macleay area

Several parks in the Hastings-Macleay area are closed due to flood and storm damage.

Camping is not permitted in closed parks.

These closures are due to widespread flooding and extensive damage to roads, campgrounds and other park facilities. Parks will be reopened as soon as they are safe to access. Some parks will remain closed for extended periods.

The Oxley Highway between Gingers Creek and Mount Seaview Road is closed due to landslides. Travellers are advised to access campgrounds and visitor areas in Oxley Wild Rivers National Park, Werrikimbe National Park and Cottan-Bimbang National Park via Walcha.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be conducting an ongoing aerial and ground baiting program in this park from Monday 15 March to Tuesday 14 September 2021. The operation will involve the use of meat baits, meat bait products and ejectors containing 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes.

This program is designed to minimise the impact of foxes on wildlife, especially after the recent extensive bushfires, and to minimise the impact of wild dogs and foxes on neighbouring stock.

All baiting locations will be identified by signs. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW national parks and reserves. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting locations. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Gummi Falls campground is currently closed for upgrades until 9am, Saturday 5 June 2021. Bullock Brush trail is also closed for upgrade works and will remain closed until Thursday 30 September 2021 as part of the seasonal closure.

Closed areas: Winter closure of 4WD trails

The following 4WD access trails are closed to vehicles due to the annual winter closure:

  • Barrington trail (south and central)
  • Paddys Ridge trail
  • Bullock Brush trail
  • Butchers Swamp trail
  • Thunderbolts trail
  • Tugalow trail

The following areas are also closed to vehicles during this time:

  • Junction Pools, Little Murray and Gummi Falls campgrounds
  • Associated walking tracks and facilities

You can still access all these campgrounds, walking tracks and facilities on foot or by bicycle.

A number of areas will be closed for an aerial weed spraying program between 10 May and Friday 25 June 2021. The closed areas will be in the following National Parks:

  • Booti Booti National Park
  • Saltwater National Park
  • Tomaree National Park
  • Myall Lakes National Park (including Broughton Island)
  • Khapphinghat Nature Reserve
  • Stormpetrel Nature Reserve
  • Little Broughton Island Nature Reserve

Certain areas will be closed for 1-2 days while the helicopter spraying of bitou bush is conducted. NPWS staff will be present during the helicopter spray operation. Please follow safety signs and directions given by staff. The herbicide used is Metsulfuron-methyl 600WG.

Other incidents: Main access road to Barrington Tops Plateau closed from Gloucester

The main access road to Barrington Tops Plateau from Gloucester has been closed by Forest Corp until further notice due to serious damage caused during the weather event before Easter.

You can only access campgrounds and visitor precincts located on the plateau from the western side via Scone. Barrington Tops Forest Road (also known as the Scone-Gloucester Road) is closed between Cobark Park and Honeysuckle picnic areas. There is no access from Gloucester to Scone on this road.

Road re-opening dates are unknown at this stage, however NSW Forestry Corporation is working on restoring the road. This media release has more information.

Safety alerts: Access Corker trail and Upper Rocky Crossing walk via Allyn River Road

The Forestry Corporation of NSW has temporarily closed Williams Top Road due to trail damage.

To access Corker trail (from Lagoon Pinch picnic area) and the upper end of Rocky Crossing walk (from Williams Top picnic area) please use Allyn River Road - take Salisbury Road and Salisbury Gap Road from Dungog. 4WD vehicles are recommended due to the rough and slippery surface.

Council access roads cross causeways that may be impassable during heavy rain.

The NSW Forest Corporation has closed Mt Allyn Forest Road due to land slips. Mt Allyn Forest Road is the only access to Burraga Swamp.

Closed areas: Phytophthora quarantine area - Barrington Tops National Park

Phytophthora is a mould that causes dieback in plants. It's been found on the plateau in Barrington Tops National Park, predominantly on the Watergauge trail between Beean Beean and Black Swamp. The affected area is under quarantine with absolutely no visitor access.

Phytophthora is readily spread by mud carried by walkers' shoes and mountain-bike tyres. There are boot wash stations across the plateau for walkers to use, to ensure their boots 'Start clean, Stay clean'.

Five Islands, Duck Holes, and Moor Creek walking tracks remain closed until dangerous tree works are complete, a pedestrian bridge is reinstalled (Five Islands) and tree risk assessment is completed.
