Other planned events: Areas closed for aerial spraying program

NSW National Parks will continue herbicide spraying between Monday 5 August and Friday 30 August 2019. For public safety, the areas being treated will be closed temporarily on the day they are sprayed. The areas in Myall Lakes National Park to be sprayed are:

  • Yaccaba Headland
  • Bennetts Beach
  • Broughton Island

The herbicide used in this program is metsulfuron methyl 600WG. NPWS staff will be present during the helicopter spray operation. Please ensure you follow the advice on all warning signs and the directions given by NPWS staff.

This spraying program is being carried out to control bitou bush on headlands and beaches in:

  • Myall Lakes National Park (including Broughton Island)
  • Little Broughton Island Nature Reserve

Spraying was not completed between Monday 3 June and Sunday 30 June 2019 due to unsuitable weather conditions. The remaining spraying is expected to take 3 days to complete with suitable weather. Spraying has now been completed in Booti Booti National Park, Corrie Island Nature Reserve, Stormpetrel Nature Reserve and the Seal Rocks area of Myall Lakes National Park. Safety alerts: 1080 wild dog control program underway in the Dungog area

NSW National Parks will be using 1080 poison (sodium fluoroacetate) for wild dog control as buried baits and capsules in ejector devices. Baits will be laid in Monkerai Nature Reserve and Black Bulga State Conservation Area from Wednesday 10 July. The program will end by Wednesday 24 July 2019.

Domestic pets, including dogs, are not permitted in national parks, state conservation areas or nature reserves. Neighbours and visitors are reminded that 1080 poison baits and capsules are lethal to domestic pets.

All areas will have 1080 baiting signs at access points to areas where baiting is taking place. In the event of accidental poisoning, seek immediate veterinary assistance.

We suggest that working dogs be restrained to ensure they do not enter the baiting location during poisoning operations. Or, muzzle dogs if they need to work the baiting location during and after the baiting program.

This program is being carried out as part of a broader coordinated control program to reduce the impacts of wild dogs on stock and wildlife. If you would like to be involved in the cooperative program, please call Hunter Local Land Services on 1300 795 299.

Closed areas: Annual winter closure of 4WD trails in Barrington Tops

The following 4WD trails in Barrington Tops are closed to all vehicles from Saturday 1 June to Tuesday 1 October 2019 for the annual seasonal closure:

  • Bullock Brush trail
  • Tugalow trail
  • Thunderbolts trail

there will be roadworks along Mungo Brush Road between April and December 2019. Expect changed traffic conditions and possible short delays between Dark Point carpark and Stewart and Lloyds campground. Drive to traffic conditions and follow safety signs.

The section of Mungo walking track between Robinsons Crossing and the start of Brambles Green trail is closed until December 2019. This is for public safety during the road construction works on Mungo Brush Road.

Closed areas: Phytophthora quarantine area - Barrington Tops National Park

Phytophthora is a mould that causes dieback in plants. It has been found on the plateau in Barrington Tops National Park, predominantly on the Watergauge trail between Beean Beean and Black Swamp. The affected area is under quarantine with absolutely no visitor access.

Phytophthora is readily spread by mud carried by walkers' shoes and mountain-bike tyres. There are boot wash stations across the plateau for walkers to use, to ensure their boots 'Start clean, Stay clean'.
