Safety alerts: Limited access through Peacock Creek Road

Some creek crossings along Peacock Creek Road approaching Richmond Range National Park are impassable without a high clearance 4WD vehicle. Alternative access to Peacock Creek campground for 2WD and low clearance vehicles is from the east via Sextonville Road only.

Torrington State Conservation Area has been damaged by bushfires. Ugly Corner Falls walking track remains closed. Do not enter closed areas.

Safety alerts: Limited access through Iron Pot Creek Road

Sections of Iron Pot Creek Road through Richmond Range State Forest are in very poor condition and impassable without a high clearance 4WD vehicle. There is no through access to Toonumbar National Park from Richmond Range National Park via Iron Pot Creek Road.

To access Peacock Creek campground, use: 

  • Sextonville Road from the east
  • Peacock Creek Road from the west
  • Cambridge Plateau Forest Drive from the Bruxner Highway in the north.

To access Iron Pot Creek campground use Murray Scrub Road via Kyogle only.

North Yabbra Road has a current height restriction of 2.2m. This is due to a large tree falling across a cut in road section. NPWS are working to resolve this problem. Please take care and drive with caution

If you plan to stay at the campground in Butterleaf National Park you will need to fill in a Trip Intention Form before you leave home.

All NPWS campgrounds now require you to make an online booking before you stay, or to complete a Trip Intention Form for those that are remote and do not have a dedicated webpage, like the campground in Butterleaf National Park.

Closed areas: Road closure

Some areas of this park are closed due to demolition of bridge from past flooding event. This closure applies until further notice. Closed areas include the 4WD access to North Washpool, an area also known as Washpool rest area, entering from Baryulgil onto Collum Collum Road. The bridge is washed away, at the junction of Washpool Creek and Collum Collum Road.

  • Washpool National Park’s 2WD entrance off Gwydir Highway onto Coachwood Drive and Washpool Forest Way is open.
  • Bellbird campground, Coombadjha campground and the Granites lookout and picnic areas are accessible.
