Closed areas: Areas closed due to bridge repairs

Some parts of this park are closed from Monday 17 May to Friday 16 July 2021 while 3 bridges are replaced.

The closed areas are:

  • Telephone Road (south)
  • Tugun Road (north)
  • Tugun Road (south)

There will be no access through these areas during operations, for public and contractor safety. Access to the multi-use trail network is still available from Telephone Road (north).

The areas will reopen once the works on each bridge is complete.

Some parts of Black Rocks campground will be closed temporarily while Jerusalem Creek walk is being upgraded.

The closed areas are:

  • Jerusalem Creek walk - closed Tuesday 10 August to Friday 13 August 2021
  • Jerusalem Creek remote campsites 50 and 51 in Black Rocks campground precinct - closed Sunday 8 August to Monday 16 August 2021

Sites 1 to 49 in Black Rocks campground precinct will remain open. Jerusalem Creek paddle route will remain open.

Other planned events: Notice of noise from RAAF training operations

If you plan to visit Bundjalung National Park, you may experience loud aircraft noise due to RAAF training operations from the nearby Evans Head air weapons range in the park.

Aircraft activities may be heard and seen over Black Rocks campground and from Jerusalem Creek paddle route and walking track.

Please note:

  • The RAAF schedule of planned air operations is available on the Defence Aircraft Noise webpage.
  • RAAF schedules for the Air Weapons Range in Bundjalung National Park can change at short notice due to weather or other operational considerations.
  • Aircraft may not utilise the range every day of scheduled operations.

Access into Rummery Park campground is via Nightcap Range Road (via Durroughby) only. Due to upgrade works at the Minyon Falls precinct, Minyon Drive is closed and will remain closed until the end of September 2021.

Closed areas: Byrrill Creek walking track - section closed

Some parts of Byrrill Creek walking track and its extension in Mebbin National Park will be closed from Monday 21 June to Friday 30 July 2021, while the track is being extended and upgraded.

The following areas will remain open:

  • All main visitor areas 
  • Cutters Camp campground and picnic area

Signs will be in place around the closed areas.

Closed parks: Wollumbin National Park closed

Wollumbin National Park is closed due to significant safety issues on Wollumbin Summit track. An update will be provided in the next 4-6 weeks, following further assessment and consultation.

Some of the best views of Wollumbin can be found along Pinnacle walk and lookout in Border Ranges National Park. You can also try Goorgana walking track or Pholis Gap walking track in nearby Nightcap National Park, or Best of All lookout at Queensland’s Springbrook National Park.

Closed areas: Minyon Falls precinct closed

Minyon Falls precinct and Minyon Grass picnic area are closed for upgrades  from Monday 1 March 2021 to Thursday 30 September 2021.

The closed areas include:

  • Minyon Falls picnic area (including Minyon Falls lookout)
  • Minyon Grass picnic area
  • Minyon loop walking track and all access points to the track
  • Boggy Creek track

Access to Rummery Park campground will be via Nightcap Range Road. Signs will be in place around the closed areas.

With the exception of the closed tracks, the multi-use trail network will still be accessible from the Telephone Road trailer carpark via Nightcap Range Road (via Dunoon).

Safety alerts: Limited access through Iron Pot Creek Road

Sections of Iron Pot Creek Road through Richmond Range State Forest are in very poor condition and impassable without a high-clearance 4WD vehicle. There is no through access to Toonumbar National Park from Richmond Range National Park via Iron Pot Creek Road. Therefore:

  • To access Peacock Creek campground, 2WD vehicles must use Sextonville Road. High-clearance 4WDs can also use Peacock Creek Road. There is no access via Cambridge Plateau Forest Drive as it remains closed until July 2021.
  • To access Iron Pot Creek campground use Murray Scrub Road via Kyogle only.

Closed areas: 4WD vehicle beach access via Richmond River Nature Reserve closed

4WD vehicle beach access via Richmond River Nature Reserve will be closed as of Wednesday 31 March 2021. Recreational vehicles are prohibited from entering the reserve from this date.

This follows the multi-tenure closure of South Ballina Beach to recreational vehicles by Crown Lands, Richmond Valley Council, Ballina Shire Council and NPWS, due to ongoing concerns about public safety and impacts to the environment and Aboriginal heritage values. Pedestrian access to the beach via Richmond River Nature Reserve will remain unrestricted. Secured vehicle access will be maintained for emergency services, commercial fishers, Jali Local Aboriginal Land Council and Bandjalang Aboriginal Corporation.

Closed areas: Eastern park entrance to Border Ranges National Park closed

The eastern end of the Tweed Range Scenic Drive at Barkers Vale is currently closed due to a landslip affecting part of the road near Bar Mountain. The road is closed between this entrance and the Bar Mountain picnic area. Visitors can only access the Tweed Range Scenic Drive from the western end of the park via Wiangaree. 

All other campgrounds, lookouts and picnic areas remain open. The Brindle Creek Loop Road is open. Part of the Brindle Creek walking track is currently closed.

Closed areas: South Ballina Break Wall Road closed

The South Ballina Break Wall Road entrance is closed at Mobbs Bay until Wednesday 30 June 2021 due to traffic safety risks. Public vehicle access to South Break Wall is now prohibited. Walkers and cyclists can still access the closed section of road to get to the beach and break wall. Vehicles can still drive to the Mobbs Bay area within Richmond River Nature Reserve.

Please follow the directions of all signage and do not park in front of the boom gate as the area needs to be accessible for emergency service vehicles. A review of the closure will be undertaken at 30 June 2021.
