Closed areas: Areas closed for upgrades

Minyon Falls precinct and Minyon Grass picnic area are closed for upgrades from Monday 1 March 2021 to Wednesday 1st December 2021.

The closed areas include:

  • Minyon Falls picnic area (including Minyon Falls lookout)
  • Minyon Grass picnic area
  • Minyon loop walking track and all access points to the track
  • Boggy Creek track

Access to Rummery Park campground will be via Nightcap Range Road. Signs will be in place around the closed areas.

With the exception of the closed tracks, the multi-use trail network will still be accessible from the Telephone Road trailer carpark via Nightcap Range Road (via Dunoon).

Penalties apply for non-compliance. For more information, contact the local NPWS office.

The following fire trails are closed from Monday 11 October 2021 until Monday 20 December 2021 (approx.) for maintenance, upgrading and bridge works:

  • O'Connors fire trail
  • North Boundary fire trail
  • Sections of Cutters Camp fire trail

Signs will be in place around closed areas

Cutters Camp campground and picnic area will remain open, and visitors can still access Byrrill Creek walking trail.

Closed areas: South Chowan Road closed

South Chowan Road and the Unicorn Falls area will be closed to the public from Monday 11 October to Monday 8 November 2021 for roadworks. Only residents will have access through South Chowan Road. 

Heavy machinery will be in use and short delays may occur. The road may be uneven and slippery during this time.

Closed areas: Newton Drive closed due to landslip

Newton Drive (from the park boundary) is closed until Friday 5 November 2021 due to a landslip. There is no vehicle or pedestrian acess access to Mt Nardi via Newton Drive during this time.

Closed parks: Wollumbin National Park closed

Wollumbin National Park is closed until Thursday 31 March 2022 due to public safety risks associated with the summit walking track, and to allow further consultation with the Aboriginal community and other key stakeholders about the future management of the site.

Some of the best views of Wollumbin can be found along Pinnacle walk and lookout in Border Ranges National Park. You can also try Goorgana walking track or Pholis Gap walking track in nearby Nightcap National Park, or Best of All lookout at Queensland’s Springbrook National Park.

Closed areas: Three sisters walking track (Broken Head) closed

The lookout on the Three sisters walking track (Broken Head) is being replaced. The track will be closed to the public while a helicopter transports materials in and out of the site. This will occur on 2 days of the 4-week construction schedule. The track will be open to the public for the remainder of the 4-week construction period.

A fence will be erected directly around the construction site to ensure public and worker safety.

Please respect this fencing and stay outside the construction area.

A section of the carpark will also be closed to the public during the construction period.

Other planned events: Notice of 1080 baiting

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be conducting a ground baiting program using dried meat baits containing 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of the introduced European fox. The program will be conducted between 10 August 2021 and 17 December 2021 in Brunswick Heads Nature Reserve (north of the river).

The fox control program is part of the NSW Saving our Species Program for the conservation of priority threatened species such as the beach stone curlew and pied oystercatcher.

All baiting locations will be identifiable by signs.

Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW national parks and reserves. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Access into Rummery Park campground is via Nightcap Range Road (via Durroughby) only. Due to upgrade works at the Minyon Falls precinct, Minyon Drive is closed and will remain closed until the end of October 2021.

Closed areas: Eastern park entrance closed

The eastern end of the Tweed Range Scenic Drive at Barkers Vale is currently closed due to a landslip affecting part of the road near Bar Mountain. The road is closed between this entrance and the Bar Mountain picnic area. Visitors can only access the Tweed Range Scenic Drive from the western end of the park via Wiangaree. 

All other campgrounds, lookouts and picnic areas remain open. The Brindle Creek Loop Road is open.
