Other incidents: Gas BBQs not operational

The gas fueled BBQs are no longer operational at Minyon Falls picnic area and Minyon grass picnic area. The gas bottles in both locations have been stolen and facilities vandalised. The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) has consistently replaced gas bottles and secured the gas bottle lock up facilities. We apologies for any inconvenience and recommend visitors to bring their own portable gas BBQ equipment for the medium term. NPWS is seeking alternative options for the 70 litre gas bottles, which have continuously been stolen over the past three years. Closed areas: Peates Mountain Road closed

Peates Mountain Road is closed at Rummery Park campground. There is no vehicle access to Gibbergunyah Range Road via Peates Mountain Road. 1080 poison (sodium fluoroacetate) baits will be continually laid on dunes, tracks and trails in Richmond River Nature Reserve, Broadwater National Park and Bundjalung National Park from Wednesday 4 July 2018 to Friday 14 December 2018. Do not touch baits as they contain poison. 1080 poison is lethal to dogs and cats, and pet owners are reminded that domestic animals are not permitted in national parks and nature reserves.

Access to Black Rocks campground from the Pacific Highway via The Gap Road has changed.

The turnoff to The Gap Road has permanently closed as part of the Pacific Highway upgrade. Access to The Gap Road is now via Tuckombil Road, which runs parallel to the highway. 

The turnoff to Tuckombil Road is 2km south of the southern end of the town of Woodburn. Follow Tuckombil Road south for 1.8km, then turn left onto The Gap Road. Black Rocks campground is 20km south along The Gap Road. 

Please drive slowly along The Gap Road because it is unsealed.

Closed areas: Tweed Range Scenic Drive and Brindle Creek Loop Road closure

Tweed Range Scenic Drive and Brindle Creek Loop Road will be closed from Tuesday 26 June 2018 until Monday 1 October 2018 to carry out flood recovery works. 

Sheepstation Creek campground and associated walking tracks will remain open. 

Kyogle Council have advised that Lynches Creek Road is currently closed for bridge replacement work. Alternative access is via Grady's Creek Road, Simes Road and Forest Road. Simes Road is not considered suitable for caravans or motorhomes. The areas affected by this closure include:

  • Antarctic Beech picnic area
  • Brindle Creek walking track
  • Brindle Creek picnic area
  • Falcorostrum Loop walking track
  • Forest Tops campground
  • Helmholtzia Loop walking track
  • Red Cedar loop
  • Pinnacle walk and lookout
  • Brindle Creek Loop Road
  • Bar Mountain circuit
  • Bar Mountain lookout
  • Bar Mountain picnic area
  • Blackbutt lookout picnic area

Other planned events: Fox baiting program in Brunswick Heads Nature Reserve

Fox baiting will continue in Brunswick Heads Nature Reserve, north of the Brunswick River until Friday 14 December 2018. The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be controlling the introduced predator, European Red Fox, using buried 1080 ground baits. 1080 canid ejectors may also be used during this period if necessary.

1080 warning signs are at main entrance points to the nature reserve where fox baits are being laid. This includes:

  • North Head Road
  • Harry's Hill
  • North wall, Brunswick River
  • North Beach (also known as Christmas Beach)
  • Oyster Lease Road
  • Brunswick River picnic area

Fox control is essential to help protect threatened beach-nesting shorebirds in this reserve during their breeding seasons. These are the Beach Stone-curlew (Critically Endangered) and the Pied Oystercatcher (Endangered). Dogs are prohibited in national parks and nature reserves. All visitors and pet owners should be aware of the risk of lethal 1080 poisoning to dogs and keep their domestic animals to designated areas. Always avoid bait stations and ejectors.

Safety alerts: Limited access to Peacock Creek campground

The access roads through Richmond Range State Forest to Richmond Range National Park are currently in very poor condition because of overgrowth and roadway erosion. Therefore, access to Peacock Creek campground from Sextonville Road, Iron Pot Creek Road and Peacock Creek Road is unsuitable for 2WD and 4WD vehicles. Visitors can access Peacock Creek campground from Bruxner Highway along Richmond Range Road and Cambridge Plateau Forest Drive.

Closed areas: Cutters Camp campground

The campground at Cutters Camp is now open with limited facilities available as upgrade works continue. Currently there are no gas barbecues onsite but a small number of wood barbecues are available in the lower campground and picnic area. It is recommended visitors bring their own portable gas BBQ equipment or timber.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service thank visitors for their patience while these important upgrade works continue.  

The hut shelter (Cutters Hut) will remain closed until further notice. There is strictly no entry to the hut during this closure. Penalties apply for non compliance.

Safety alerts: Ilmenite stockpile removal and site rehabilitation

Visitors to Black Rocks campground should expect to encounter large trucks on The Gap Road. This is part of a major project to remove a sand mining tailings stockpile from the park and restore the area to a natural ecosystem. Park visitors are asked to slow down and exercise caution while driving along The Gap Road. No works associated with this project will be undertaken on weekends, public holidays or NSW school holidays. The truck movements are expected to continue until June 2020. Attention for campers at Black Rocks regarding periodic aircraft noise over the campground. The Department of Defence has a training area within Bundjalung National Park north of Black Rocks campground. Aircraft may fly over the campground from time to time. Partial closure. No 4WD beach access from Black Rocks campground. Due to significant storm damage, the 4WD beach access at Black Rocks campground is closed. Vehicles may still drive along Ten Mile Beach north from the Shark Bay 4WD beach access, but cannot exit at Black Rocks.There are no other beach access points on Ten Mile Beach other than Shark Bay 4WD beach access. No 4WD access north of Black Rocks campground.
