Closed areas: Toonumbar Forest Drive and Cox's Road temporary closure

Toonumbar Forest Drive and Cox's Road will be closed until approximately 25 May due to wet conditions.

Sherwood lookout and Murray Scrub lookout remain closed until the roads are re-opened. Iron Pot Creek campground and Murray Scrub walking track are only accessible via Murray Scrub Road from Afterlee.

Both roads are not safely trafficable in wet conditions and are therefore closed during forecast weather events and damage during the winter period.

Closed areas: Toonumbar National Park Temporary Closures

Murrays Scrub Road will be closed from 21 April 2026 for approximately 4 weeks to allow for repair work to the road and drainage system. The road will be closed from the intersection of Murray Scrub Rd and Murrays Scrub Carpark Rd.

Murrays Scrub Carpark Road will also be temporarily closed for several days during this period for maintenance works – a separate alert will be posted when this occurs.

Iron Pot Creek Campground will not be accessible during works.

Visitors using Murray Scrub Road to access Murrays Scrub Carpark Rd should be aware large trucks and machinery may intermittently be travelling along Murray Scrub Road. All road users should drive to conditions and be aware of additional traffic and large vehicles.

Safety alerts: Roadworks on Peates Mountain Rd and Gibbergunyah Management Trail

NPWS will be conducting road maintenance works along Peates Mountain Rd and Gibbergunyah Management Trail from Monday 11 May 2026 to Wednesday 20 May 2026. 

All walking tracks will remain open during maintenance works however, users are advised that machinery will be present and working on-site during this time. Please follow all safety signage and staff directions.

Closed areas: Nightcap Range Road closed in both directions due to major landslip repairs

Nightcap Range Road is closed to traffic in both directions due to a major landslip associated with the 2022 flood event. The closure affects the section of Nightcap Range Road between Rummery Road intersection and Telephone Road trailer parking area.

Access to Minyon Falls and Rummery Park is via Minyon Falls Road only.

Closed areas: Brindle Creek Loop Road Closure

Brindle Creek Loop Road and part of Tweed Range Scenic Drive will be closed from 6pm Wednesday 20 May 2026 to 830am Saturday 23 May 2026 for vegetation maintenance.  The Pinnacles, Bar Mt & Blackbutts lookout will remain open and accessible from Eastern side via Creegans Road.

Areas affected by this closure are:-

  • Antarctic Beech picnic area
  • Helmholtzia walking track
  • Red Cedar walking track
  • Brindle Creek picnic area
  • Brindle Creek walking track
  • Forest tops campground
  • Booyong walking track (accessible only from Sheepstation)

 

These works are weather dependent and closure may extend if required.

Closed areas: Tweed Range Scenic Drive partial closure & Brindle Creek Loop road

Tweed Range Scenic Drive is temporarily closed for Vegetation maintenance from 6pm Wednesday 20th May until  830am Saturday 23rd May. The Closure will be between the Pinnacle lookout and Forest Tops campground this includes Brindle Creek Loop Road. Closure will affect the below areas:_

  • Brindle Creek picnic area
  • Brindle Creek walking Track
  • Red Cedar walking Track
  • Helmholzia walking Track
  • Antarctic Beech picnic area

The below areas will remain OPEN and access will be from the Eastern entrance only via Creegans road.

  • Bar Mountain Day use are & walking tracks
  • Blackbutts Lookout
  • The Pinnacle Lookout

These works are weather dependent and may be extended if required.

Safety alerts: Peacock Creek campground access limitations

 

Access to Peacock Creek campground is limited for some vehicles during inclement weather due to deterioration of local roads. See below best options to access the campground whilst repairs and upgrades take place on local roads:

  1. Cambridge Plateau Forest Drive via Bruxner Highway (south) - best access when open, 2WD suitable in dry weather only. Intermittently closed during periods of wet weather.
  2. Sextonville Road via Summerland Way (East) - Most weather access suitable for most vehicles, some pot holes and slippery when wet. /**/
  3. Iron Pot Creek Road via Kyogle (north) - Suitable for all vehicles in most weather. Drive from Kyogle towards Toonumbar on Afterlee Road to the Dam Access Road, then turn left onto Brays Road, right onto Logan's Bridge Road and right onto Iron Pot Creek Road. Follow signs to Bonalbo once on Brays Road.
  4. Peacock Creek Road via Clarence way (west) - 4WD only, not suitable for towing. Two steep creek crossings not suitable for 2WD/AWD, badly damaged road surface with very large pot holes.

Closed areas: Cambridge Plateau Forest Drive partial closure

 

Cambridge Plateau Forest Drive is closed between Mount Babyl north to Peacock Creek Road until approximately Monday 25 May due to wet conditions. 

The following facilities will remain open

  • Culmaran loop trail
  • Culmaran Valley track

Please use Iron Pot Creek Road or Sextonville Road to access Peacock Creek campground as there will be no access via Cambridge Plateau Forest Drive until the road re-opens.

Telco Companies & related persons that require access to Mount Babyl trail and tower area, can access Mount Babyl using a KRB key only.

The private Airbnb cabin off Cambridge Plateau Forest Drive will remain accessible via Cambridge Plateau Forest Drive from the south via the Bruxner Highway, contact the owner for more information.

Other planned events: Changed access to walking tracks due to flood restoration

Please travel via Uki using Rowlands Creek and Manns Roads to access the following locations:

  • Mount Jerusalem Central trails
  • Unicorn Falls walking track
  • Whiskey Creek walk 
  • Gidjuum Gulganyi walk

Byron Shire Council is currently undertaking flood restoration works within the Main Arm valley, expected to be completed by mid 2026.

These works include the restoration and repair of culverts and causeways along Main Arm Road, which is the main vehicle access to Mount Jerusalem National Park when approaching from Mullumbimby. Byron Shire Council have advised that Main Arm Road should only be used by local traffic.

Other incidents: Yabbra NP - Road conditions

South Yabbra Road runs South from Clarence Way providing visitors with an 18km rainforest road experience to the heart of Yabbra National Park. South Yabbra Road is generally suitable for AWD or 4WD vehicles in dry weather conditions and is a no through road (visitors need to return along South Yabbra Road). From the end of South Yabbra Road visitors can walk or cycle along the adjacent management trails to explore further. Joes Box Road, Yabbra Plains Road, Pocupar Road, Bald Knob Road and South Haystack Feeder are management trails where public vehicle access is not permitted. These management trails are periodically closed to visitors for road maintenance or pest management operations with closures notified on NPWS website.

 

Sheas Hut Road provides public vehicle access for a further 10 km however is in poor condition and not promoted.

 

There are frequent tree falls along these roads and visitors are advised to avoid during wet weather events or strong winds. For further information contact the Kyogle NPWS office on (02) 6632 0000.

Wollumbin (Mount Warning) summit track and the summit are closed until further notice. Parking at Korrumbyn Creek and Breakfast Creek is limited.

Korrumbyn Creek picnic area, Lyrebird walking track, and visitor facilities at Breakfast Creek remain open.
