Safety alerts: Degraded road conditions - 4WD only

Road conditions within the reserve may be degraded due to recent heavy rains, particularly Spirabo Forest Way that runs through Capoompeta National Park from Ten Mile Road in the south, and continues through the western side of Washpool National Park where it joins Scrub Road in the north. Access on these roads is limited to 4WD only, and please be cautious and drive to road conditions.

Brindle Creek Road is closed until Friday 10 December 2021 due to storm damage and fallen trees. This closure may be extended and any extension will be posted as soon as possible.

The following walking tracks and visitor areas will not be accessible for the duration of the closure:

  • Antarctic Beech picnic area
  • Brindle Creek picnic area
  • Brindle Creek walking track

Cambridge Plateau Forest Drive will be closed from Wednesday 24 November 2021 due to forecast rain. This closure will be reviewed on Friday 10 December 2021.

There is no access to Mount Babyl tower during the closure. Emergency tower access is permitted only with approval from NPWS.

Cambridge Plateau Forest Drive will be closed from Wednesday 24 November 2021 due to forecast rain. This closure will be reviewed on Friday 10 December 2021. Please note:

  • Peacock Creek campground will remain open and can be accessed from the west via Peacock Creek Road or from the east via Sextonville Road.
  • Cambridge Plateau picnic area, Culmaran Valley track and Cambridge loop walk will be closed for the duration of the road closure.

Closed areas: Road closure

Some areas of this park are closed until further notice due to the demolition of a bridge from a past flooding event.

The closed areas include the 4WD access to North Washpool, an area also known as Washpool rest area, entering from Baryulgil onto Collum Collum Road. The bridge is washed away at the junction of Washpool Creek and Collum Collum Road.

Please note:

  • Washpool National Park’s 2WD entrance off Gwydir Highway onto Coachwood Drive and Washpool Forest Way is open.
  • Bellbird campground, Coombadjha campground and the Granites lookout and picnic areas are accessible.

Closed areas: Tweed Range Scenic Drive East park entrance closed

The east park entrance on Tweed Range Scenic Drive (from Barkers Vale) is closed until Monday 31 January 2022 due to multiply landslips being repaired.  Tweed Range scenic drive is open from Sheepstation Creek to Bar Mountain. Access to Tweed Range scenic drive is only via Lynches Creek Road from Wiangaree. There is currently no access from the Barkers Vale entrance. All roads, walking tracks and lookouts within the park are open

Closed areas: Roadworks and heavy equipment in park

Roads in this park will be closed to public access due to roadworks happening on Joes Box Road, South Yabbra Road, Yabbra Plains Road and Pocupar Road. Most of the works are happening on management trails that are not open to visitors, but other roads in this area will be affected by heavy equipment. The work includes vegetation management, grading and haulage. It is expected to be complete by early December 2021, weather dependant.
