Vehicle access in Boonoo Boonoo NP is restricted to a maximum of 40km/h throughout the park, and some areas with shared pedestrian access are restricted to 10km/h. Gravel roads can become slippery at times, particularly in wet weather, so please exercise caution and adhere to the sign-posted limits.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting ongoing aerial and ground baiting programs. Aerial baiting and ground baiting is scheduled from 8th June 2025 to 8th December 2025. The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of Wild dogs and Foxes.

Aerial baiting and ground baiting will occur in:

Richmond River Area – Captains Creek Nature Reserve (NR), Richmond Range National Park (NP), Bundjalung NP

Clarence Area - Nymboi-Binderay NP, Nymboida NP, Mount Neville NR, Banyabba NR and State Conservation Area (SCA), Ramornie NP, Bundjalung NP

Coffs Coast Area - Bagul Waajaarr NR, Bindarri NP, Cascade NP, Chaelundi NP and SCA, Cunnawarra NP, Dorrigo NP, Dunggir NP, Gumbaynggirr SCA, Jobs Mountain NR, Mount Hyland NR and SCA, New England NP, Ngambaa NR, Nymboi-Binderay NP, Serpentine NR.

Hastings Macleay Area- The Cells SCA, Cottan-Bimbang NP, Carrai NP and SCA, New England NP, Pee Dee NR, The Castles NR, Werrikimbe NP, Willi Willi NP, Mount Seaview NR.

The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species, and to minimise impact of wild dogs on neighbouring stock.

Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Safety alerts: Peacock Creek campground access changed

Access to Peacock Creek campground has changed due to deterioration of local roads following the impacts of Cyclone Alfred. See below best options to access the campground whilst repairs and upgrades take place on local roads:

  1. Cambridge Plateau Forest Drive via Bruxner Highway (south) - best access when open, 2WD suitable in dry weather only. Intermittently closed during periods of wet weather.
  2. Sextonville Road via Summerland Way (east) - Currently good access including caravans and long vehicles. However, note it is 2WD suitable in dry weather only.
  3. Iron Pot Creek Road via Kyogle (north) - Currently under traffic control and not suitable for caravans/campertrailers. Good access for most vehicles  from Kyogle via Afterlee Road to the Dam Access Road, then a left turn onto Brays Road, right turn onto Logan's Bridge Road, right turn onto Iron Pot Creek Road. Follow signs to Bonalbo once on Brays Road.
  4. Peacock Creek Road via Clarence way (west) - 4WD only, not recommended for towing. Two steep creek crossings not suitable for 2WD/AWD, badly damaged with large pot holes.

Closed areas: Toonumbar Forest Drive and Cox's Road closed

From 28 October 2025, Toonumbar Forest Drive and Cox's Road are closed until Autumn 2026. Estimated re-opening is May 2026 following completion of maintenance works.

Sherwood lookout and Murray Scrub lookout remain closed until the roads are re-opened. Iron Pot Creek campground and Murray Scrub walking track are only accessible via Murray Scrub Road from Afterlee.

Both roads are not safely trafficable in wet conditions and are therefore seasonally closed from late spring until late autumn dependant on rainfall during the wet season. There may also be additional closures during forecast weather events and damage during the winter period.

Bundjalung National Park visitors may experience loud aircraft noise until further notice. RAAF training operations from the nearby Evans Head Air Weapons Range may be heard and seen from the Black Rocks campground and Jerusalem Creek paddle route and walking track.

  • The RAAF schedule of planned air operations is available on the Defence Aircraft Noise webpage.
  • RAAF schedules for the Air Weapons Range in Bundjalung National Park can change at short notice due to weather or other operational considerations.
  • Aircraft may not utilise the range every day of scheduled operations.

Clarence Valley Council are conducting extensive roadworks closing the Old Grafton Road (Old Glen Innes Road) between Mann River Campground and Dalmorton Campground. Mann River Campground is accessible from the Glen Innes (Western) side of the Old Grafton Road, whereas Dalmorton must be accessed from Grafton (Eastern) side. The Dalmorton Tunnel is closed during this time.

Please be aware this closure may add significantly to travel time to and from the campground. At this stage works are scheduled until the end of December 2025.

Other incidents: Yabbra NP - Road conditions

South Yabbra Road runs South from Clarence Way providing visitors with an 18km rainforest road experience to the heart of Yabbra National Park. South Yabbra Road is generally suitable for AWD or 4WD vehicles in dry weather conditions and is a no through road (visitors need to return along South Yabbra Road). From the end of South Yabbra Road visitors can walk or cycle along the adjacent management trails to explore further. Joes Box Road, Yabbra Plains Road, Pocupar Road, Bald Knob Road and South Haystack Feeder are management trails where public vehicle access is not permitted. These management trails are periodically closed to visitors for road maintenance or pest management operations with closures notified on NPWS website.

 

Sheas Hut Road provides public vehicle access for a further 10 km however is in poor condition and not promoted.

 

There are frequent tree falls along these roads and visitors are advised to avoid during wet weather events or strong winds. For further information contact the Kyogle NPWS office on (02) 6632 0000.

Nightcap Range Road is closed to traffic in both directions due to a major landslip associated with the 2022 flood event. The closure affects the section of Nightcap Range Road between Rummery Road intersection and Telephone Road trailer parking area.

Access to Minyon Falls and Rummery Park is via Minyon Falls Road only.

The Border Loop Lookout and walking track will be closed to all visitors to allow for essential roadworks on the Lions Road.

Some areas of this park are closed until further notice due to the demolition of a bridge from a past flooding event.

The closed areas include the 4WD access to North Washpool, an area also known as Washpool rest area, entering from Baryulgil onto Collum Collum Road. The bridge is washed away at the junction of Washpool Creek and Collum Collum Road.

Please note:

  • Washpool National Park’s 2WD entrance off Gwydir Highway onto Coachwood Drive and Washpool Forest Way is open.
  • Bellbird campground, Coombadjha campground and the Granites lookout and picnic areas are accessible.
