Closed areas: Parts of Blue Mountains National Park closed

Many roads, fire trails and walking tracks in Blue Mountains National Park are closed due to infrastructure repairs, upgrades or damage caused by wet weather including subsidence, rockfalls, landslides and fallen trees.

Katoomba and Leura

  • Katoomba Kiosk Reserve, Reids Plateau and Round Walk east are closed to due to Council upgrades. For details visit the Blue Mountains City Council website
  • Honeymoon Bridge is closed due to rockfall hazards. (Visible bridge from Echo Point. Side route off Three Sisters Track and Giant Stairs).
  • Furber Steps walk and Round walking track (full loop) are closed from Wednesday 20 May to Tuesday 30 June 2026, for track upgrade works. There will be no access to Federal Pass from these tracks. Alternative access/exits are via Fern Bower, Giant Stairway,  or Scenic World (costs apply). Visitors can also access Federal Pass from Golden Stairs however access via these routes is more adventurous and remote. 
  • Glenraphael Drive (Narrow Neck fire trail) is closed to vehicles near Cliff Drive due to a road subsidence. There is no vehicle access to Golden Stairs trackhead. Walkers and cyclists are permitted.
  • Glenraphael Drive (Narrow Neck) south of Pumphouse Trail Golden Stairs, Federal Pass (from Golden Stairs to Scenic World Valley Stations), will be closed intermittently for a helicopter operation from 18-19 June 2026. Delays should be expected.    
  • Part of Lindeman Pass is closed due to a major landslide below Gladstone lookout. Roberts Pass is closed due to rockfall and landslide hazards.
  • Six Foot track is closed at the boundary to the Jenolan Caves Karst Conservation Reserve. Jenolan Karst Conservation Reserve (including the Caves Visitor Precinct) is closed until 31 December 2026. There is no access to the entire reserve during this time.  
  • Mt Hay Road will be closed from Tuesday 9 June to Thursday 17 December 2026 for Fire Trail upgrades. There will be no vehicle or pedestrian access during this time.  
  • No access to Lockleys Pylon walking track from Tuesday 9th June to Thursday 17th December to allow for upgrade works along Mt Hay.  

Wentworth Falls and Woodford  

  • Pedestrian and vehicle access to Wentworth Falls Day Use Area and car park from Falls Rd will be closed on the 16-17 June 2026 for tree work. Visitors will be able to walk in/ out from Murphy's Lane, Darwins Walk or Conservation Hut only.

  • Part of National Pass (west of Wentworth Falls middle crossing) is closed due to a major landslide and ongoing risks.

  • Wentworth Pass and Slack Stairs are closed due to elevated boardwalk repairs. There is no access to Roberts Pass, Hippocrene or Vera Falls routes. 
  • Valley of the Waters is closed below Silvia Falls due rockfall hazards. There is no access to Roberts Pass, Hippocrene or Vera Falls.
  • Princes Rock walking track is closed for maintenance until 30 June 2026. Princes Rock lookout is however accessible from Overcliff/Undercliff track.
  • Fletchers lookout is closed for maintenance until 30 June 2026.
  • Lincolns Rock is closed. For details visit the Blue Mountains City Council website.
  • Winbourne fire trail (L6) in Woodford will be closed for maintenance from Monday 25 May to Friday 26 June 2026.
  • Lawson Ridge fire trail will be closed for road maintenance from Wednesday 10 June to Friday 10 July 2026.

Blackheath, Mount Victoria, Megalong Valley and Bells Line of Road 

  • Green Gully precinct including Dunphys Campground and Galong Cabins is closed for road upgrade works until 1 July 2026 (weather dependent). This means there is no access to the K-2-K, Iron Pot Route, Breakfast Creek, Ironmonger Route or Bellbird Ridge Fire Trail. 
  • Pulpit Rock Reserve, lookouts and part of the walking track are closed. For more information visit the Blue Mountains City Council website. Pulpit Rock walking track from Popes Glen is open as far as the NPWS boundary (as shown on Google maps).
  • Govetts descent and parts of Rodriguez Pass are closed due to rockfalls and landslides. Valley access from Blackheath is via Horse Track.

Adventure recreation, canyons, abseiling and rock climbing

Juggler (aka Point Pilcher) Canyon exit has been affected by a recent rockfall event. Canyoners should use caution and exit around the impact site.  

Some adventure recreation areas and routes may be closed where the access or exit road/track is mentioned above.

Closed parks: Scabby Range, Clarkes Hill, Bogandyera and Jingellic Nature Reserves closed for aerial control operations of feral animals 

The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be conducting aerial control operations for all feral animals in the Scabby Range, Clarkes Hill, Bogandyera and Jingellic Nature Reserves between 7am Tuesday 9 June and 7pm Tuesday 30 June 2026.

During this period the reserves will be closed to the public and all park users. This includes all tracks, trails, campgrounds, huts, picnic areas and accommodation within the closed operational area.

The Hume and Hovell Track through Bogandyera Nature Reserve will remain open.

Safety alerts: Murramarang South Coast Walk Hazard Warning

Walking tracks in Murramarang have been heavily affected by storm and sea conditions.

Beach access points and rock crossings have been heavily impacted and can be difficult to negotiate with some steep, slippery and unstable sections.

When accessing beaches and walking across rocky sections of the walk, please be mindful of conditions, loose rocks and dangerous crossings.

Maintenance work will be underway at various locations throughout the Audley precinct from Tuesday 9 June to Friday 17 July 2026. These works will require temporary closure of toilet facilities across several site.

2026 closure schedule:

  • Reids Flat and Pool Flat (9 June to 12 June)
  • Ironbark Flat (15 June to 19 June)
  • Bus Stop (29 June to 3 July)
  • Allambie Flat (6 July to 10 July)

NPWS will install temporary toilet and accessible facilities located near the Commonwealth Pavillion and carpark entrance to Iron Bark Flat.  These Facilities will be in place for the duration of the works. Please plan ahead and use alternative facilities where available. All dates are subject to change depending on weather conditions. Updates will be provided if schedules change due to weather or unforeseen circumstances.

Other planned events: Temporary access disruption to Maloneys Beach for landscape and revegetation

National Parks and Wildlife Service is carrying out landscaping and revegetation works at Maloneys Beach during June 2026. Some minor disruption to the car park and sections of the Murramarang South Coast Walk may occur during this time.

Work is being delivered in stages, with the garden beds to be established in this stage and further plantings of native species later in the year when conditions are more suitable for plant establishment. Some additional rock and bollards will also be installed to define the area in line with the precinct plan and REF (2021). Pedestrian access to the beach and Murramarang South Coast Walk will remain open.

The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species, and to minimise impact of wild dogs on neighbouring stock.

Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Please be aware the weir crossing stepping stones were impacted by a recent heavy rainfall event. A number of the stepping stones were dislodged or washed down river.

Walkers should take care when using the weir crossing. Walkers should not use the weir crossing if water levels are high at the crossing.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting a night - time ground shooting program for fox control around Lake Wollumboola from Thursday 14 May to Friday 19 June 2026.

 

The operation will occur around Lake Wollumboola and surrounding areas and will be undertaken by qualified NPWS shooters in accordance with approved NPWS shoot plans. Shooting activities will take place at night on select evenings only. The program aims to protect nesting shorebirds by reducing fox predation.

Ground shooting will not occur during school holidays, weekends, or public holidays.

 

Access tracks, lake and beach entrances to the shoot area will be temporarily closed and signposted prior to shooting operations. Members of the public must not enter closed areas during shooting periods.

Ground Shooting will not take place during school holidays or on weekends or public holidays.

Closed areas: Thirlmere Lakes National Park: Lake Couridjah Picnic Precinct Upgrade Works

The Lake Couridjah picnic area will be closed to all visitors (pedestrians, cyclists, horse riders) and the car park area will be partially closed ( to all visitors) at Thirlmere Lakes National Park from Monday 18 May 2026 until Friday 8 August 2026 including weekends until further notice.

The area will be fenced off to allow NPWS contractors to construct the following upgrade works:

  • Accessible Pathways around Picnic Area.
  • New Gas BBQ facilities.
  • New Seating Areas (Table & Chairs).
  • New Timber Skillion Shelters.
  • New Information Signage.
  • New Sandstone steps and natural/concrete paths.
  • Sandstone seating logs.

The Lake Couridjah Toilets will remain open for visitors and contractors to use. There are limited car parking spaces available for park visitors (2 car park spaces with a 15-minute time limit to use the toilet facilities only).

Parks visitors can visit and use the picnic area, car park and existing 1 stall toilet at Werri Berri precinct located outside the current fenced construction area.

Closed areas: Areas closed for ground pest control operations

Parts of the Illawarra Escarpment State Conservation Area, Macquarie Pass National Park, Dharawal National Park and Dharawal Nature Reserve are closed Monday 04 May to 29 June 2026.

Specifically, these areas will be closed from 6pm to 6am Monday to Thursday evenings/mornings (outside of school and public holidays) during these dates.

Please note that whilst shooting may not be conducted on all these nights, the park is closed to allow works to be conducted during favourable weather conditions.

This program will target deer. It aims to reduce the significant impact they have on native plants and animals including threatened species. Other pest animals, including pigs, goats and foxes will be targeted if observed during the operation.

Park closure warning signs will be erected at entrances to the shooting areas.

The Sublime Point Walking Track is closed for major upgrades from Monday 18 August 2025 to Monday 30 November 2026.

Alternative walking tracks include the Lookout Track to Panorama House, Wodi Wodi Track, Gibson Walking Track, the Woodward Loop Track and the Mount Keira Ring Track.

The upgrade is supported by the NSW and Australian Government’s Infrastructure Betterment Fund to repair and rebuild public assets directly impacted by natural disasters since 2019.

The Werri Berri picnic area at Thirlmere Lakes National Park will be partially closed to all visitors (pedestrians, cyclists, horse riders and vehicles) from Friday 03 April 2026 to Friday 26 June 2026 including weekends.

The area will be partially fenced off to allow NPWS contractors to construct a new 3-stall toilet facility.

Park visitors can visit and use the car park and existing 1 stall toilet located outside the fenced construction area of Werri Berri picnic area.

Decomissioning of the old 1-stall toilet at Werri Berri picnic area will occur once the new toilets are operational.

Due to ongoing dry conditions, several campsites (sites 10,12,13) at Congo campground currently have soft and sandy surfaces, particularly in areas accessed by vehicles.

These conditions may make vehicle manoeuvring difficult, and visitors are encouraged to take extra care when driving or setting up.

To help minimise impacts and avoid vehicle bogging, please park on firmer ground where available or pack ground matting / camp matting / annex flooring.

Remedial works to improve campground surface conditions are scheduled after April school holidays.

The Forest Walk terminates at Sublime Point due to major upgrades on the Sublime Point Walking Track which is closed from Monday 18 August 2025 to Monday 30 November 2026.

There is no walking access to Austinmer or Austinmer Train Station.  

The upgrade is supported by the NSW and Australian Government’s Infrastructure Betterment Fund to repair and rebuild public assets directly impacted by natural disasters since 2019.

The end of Tallowa Dam Road in Morton National Park is currently closed due to cracks which have developed after multiple heavy rain events, creating the potential for a landslide. The closure is located approximately 1.5km east of Tallowa Dam crest.

There is no public access to Tallowa Dam. Paddlers must exit the lake at Beehive Point or Bendeela.

For continued safety and risk management of the site, the road will remain closed to the public until late 2026. The road will be reopened when the remediation works are completed. This work is being managed by National Parks and Wildlife Service and we will update this message when we have more information.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service is disposing of used 1080 baits and baiting products in an approved disposal pit on NPWS National Parks land within the Fitzroy Falls area.

The burial of used baits and products will occur from Monday 19 January to Thursday 16 July 2026. All bait material in the pit will be buried under at least 500mm of soil, and clear of waterways so as not to cause pollution of waterways. This is in accordance with the current Pesticide Control Order (1080 bait products).

There will be 1080 baiting signs at the entrance to the disposal pit site.

1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) is lethal to pets (including domestic dogs and cats) and working dogs. In the event of accidental poisoning, seek immediate veterinary assistance. Domestic pets, including dogs and cats, are not permitted in national parks or reserves.

Harry Graham Drive will be closed in both directions between Wollongong Motorcycle Club and Kembla Village from Monday 19 January 2026 until mid-late 2026 (weather permitting), to allow Wollongong City Council to carry out essential road maintenance and upgrades.

During this time, the Kembla mountain bike trails can be accessed as follows:

1. From Mount Keira: The main trail car park is open and signposted off Harry Graham Drive. This is the only access point for beginner trails during the roadworks. Visitors should expect some traffic delays.

2. From Kembla Heights: Harry Graham Drive is temporarily closed to all traffic from Kembla Heights. Access is available for blue and black trails only, and a small carpark is

available. For safety and to avoid congestion, riders are asked not to park on the roadside. Beginner trails will be temporarily inaccessible from Kembla Heights during the roadworks. For access to green runs, please use the main trail carpark via Mount Keira Road.

Bingi Dreaming track crosses openings to several Intermittently Closed and Open Coastal Lakes and Lagoons (ICOLLS). Openings of these lakes and lagoons are often unpredictable and can be quite dramatic. Please be aware that although lakes are usually only open for short periods (weeks), they can be impassable when open.

The Coila Lake opening is at the southern end of Bingi Dreaming track. Please check if this lake is open before you set out. If the opening is impassable, you won't be able to access the village of Tuross to complete the walk.

Cullendulla Beach is changing shape from the impacts of coastal erosion.

During high tide, walking access via the beach into Cullendulla Creek Nature Reserve from the carpark on Myamba Parade may be restricted by the ocean.

While in the reserve, visitors should continue to monitor conditions and time their walk with a lower tide.

Cycle routes in Conjola National Park may currently be unsuitable for some cyclists due to recent roadworks. There are many sections of large ballast rock that have been used in boggy areas that may be difficult for cyclists to negotiate. Due to extensive damage to infrastructure and trees during the 2019/2020 fires, the Penance Grove Boardwalk and Walking Track have been permanently closed.  Any reference to these areas on third party websites is old content and now incorrect.  Due to the extent of damage and complete loss of all infrastructure, there are currently no plans to reinstate the area.

 

The Corn Trail walking track, Dasyurus picnic area and Mongarlowe River picnic area all remain available.
